    How to handle critics?

I say at 42 years old you need to do what is right for you and your immediate family (husband and children). If you have the support of your husband, it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. Also, you can tell your parents that the mortality rate of the gastric sleeve procedure is less than the mortality rate from a knee replacement! If you had serious damage done to your knee would your family expect you to not get that repaired? Of course not! Why avoid having a life saving procedure like the gastric sleeve done which will ensure you get leaner and healthier. Just my 2 cents--

    best preop protein drinks

Sams Club carries the Premier Protein drinks too! Chocolate and Vanilla - 12 premixed drinks for $18.88. They are by far the most superior protein drink in taste, in my opinion (and the opinion of many honestly...)

    Paczkis!

Good for you, Geri! SO proud of you for sticking to the plan and not giving in. That is awesome. Besides, who really wants to celebrate a holiday called "FAT Tuesday?"

    orange juice

You can generally drink anything like that now; however, you may want to check with your NUT if they want you having something so acidic at a month out. If they ok it, I recommend cutting it with some Water. It is loaded down with sugars (natural or not) and can be pretty hard on the stomach. Good Luck!
  8. Wow, 100 pounds since October? That is unbelievable. I had my surgery Oct 3 - starting weight was 333 and I am only down 50ish pounds. Everybody loses differently. I certainly wish it was more but I am happy with any loss. Actually, I have been getting REALLY frustrated lately b/c I feel like I should have lost more than that at the 4 month mark. I have been stalled out for over a month now. I am getting REALLY REALLY frustrated. Any advice???

    Black tongue

Looks like a type of thrush - get in to see your primary care provider - they can treat that. It happened to my hubby right after his sleeve surgery, it did not happen to me after my sleeve surgery though. Good luck and keep us posted!
  11. I am not a big candy eater, but let me tell you when I am craving something - I need those flavors!! Since being sleeved I have had to get creative with how I approach certain cravings. So, there I was last night craving something sweet, particularly a Butterfinger Candy bar. I knew I didn't need the sugars and junk in one but needed those flavors. Into the kitchen I went and here is the concoction I mixed up and OMG, tastes JUST LIKE a Butterfinger candy bar! Ingredients: 1 - 11 oz. chocolate Premier Protein shake 1 tbsp. sugar free, Fat Free Butterscotch pudding Mix 1 tbsp. creamy Peanut Butter 1 tsp. instant coffee granules (you don't taste the coffee, just heightens the chocolate taste) Couple handfuls of ice Throw all ingredients in a blender and/or bullet mixing system - mix well to incorporate all ingredients. Wonderful, thick, creamy Butterfinger fix! Oh yeah! Also, I had enough left over that I poured it into popsicle molds and froze for a quick treat later in the week! Enjoy!

    Possible pulled muscle?

Happened to me too - take it easy, rest, get plenty of fluids and Protein - take pain medications if you need it. It will go away and get better. Good Luck!

    Spouses reaction 2 weight loss

I don't know how to say this, so I am just going to say it: It seems like there is a much bigger issue here than you realize. If your husband already has an opinion as to what you wear when you go out, this surgery and your subsequent weight loss will only make the situation worse. I hate to say it but true! Before I started on my WLS journey my surgeon stated at the seminar that if you have relationship issues now, the surgery will only make them worse. I believe you when you say you love your husband and no desire to go elsewhere, but I truly believe there are some deeply rooted jealousy issues for your husband that need to be addressed. Maybe you could suggest he attend counseling to address his controlling nature. I say live your life and do what you need to do to make you happy. If things don't work out with you guys then it was meant to be. You don't want to spend the next 10 years miserable with someone who is only concerened about their feelings. Just my 2 cents--

    Wood dust on purees?

I agree with Richard, probably not enough to do anything BUT with that said, I would definitely advise your surgeon's office of that...just to be safe. Good Luck!
  20. Approximately - 2-3 hours total counting prep, surgery, recovery, etc. The surgery itself is usually only about 30-60 minutes depending on what they have to do in there. If you need a hiatal hernia repair, gallbladder removal, liver biopsy, etc. done in conjunction with sleeve procedure expect a little longer. Good Luck!
  21. Personally, I am sad that your wife is not being as supportive as a spouse should be. If it was her going through this she would be raising hell b/c you are not supporting her, etc. I saw this is a lifestyle change you have chosen for yourself and I would do what you need to do to make that lifestyle change work. You don't need her to plan the meals, you can do this on your own. I agree with mattsbelly - consider getting some counseling for the two of you. If she doesn't understand and support you now...I hate to say this, it isn't going to get better. It will only get worse. I have seen it happen time and time and time again with other individuals. Just my 2 cents-- Good Luck!

    Do I have to?

I LOVE the Premier Protein drinks! They are AWESOME! By far, hands down the best tasting protein drink on the market. I drink one or two everyday. Great deal = 12 for $18.88! Woot woot!

    Leak?

Most leaks occur within the first 30 days....now that is not to say you can't get one ever after the 30 days. Some people have been known to get leaks at 6 months out but highly unlikely. Just make sure you are focusing on getting your fluids and Protein in. Stay on top of your pain meds to ease the discomfort and follow the surgeon's dietary guidelines to a tee - don't mess with that. Good luck! It will be the BEST thing you have ever done for yourself - I promise. I am 3 months out and down 50 pounds. I NEVER could have lost 50 pounds on my own without the assistance of the sleeve. It is a great tool in the battle of the bulge.

    Leak?

You would be running a fever over 100 degrees, rapid heart rate, pale skin, sweaty, body aches, general feeling of uncomfortableness, etc. Like I said, it can be a myriad of symptoms. How far out are you?
