gastric band to RNY revision
reshiapooh96 replied to Pattycakes209's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That's nice Harley, I will be getting the two step procedure. It may take that long to take out the band but I hope not. I can wait a couple of months for my tummy to heal. Good Luck! -
Denied for Conversion - Slipped Band
reshiapooh96 replied to Bkhuffman292's topic in Insurance & Financing
I know how P.O'd you must feel, but hang in there something will come through. I have a failed band now and wanted a sleeve. BC/BS denied converting to sleeve but will pay for RNY. Fortunately for me, I did regularly go to my surgeon who really wasn't interested in having me go in for tests W/O me asking for them. and He seemed P.O'd at me for having to ask. I was gaining weight and miserable too. Somehow, your insurance may pay for converting to RNY due to having issues. -
I was devastated too when my insurance said NO to the sleeve but yes to RNY. I have a failed band right now and wanted to convert to the sleeve per my Dr. I never really wanted RNY but since they are still looking into the sleeve and won't pay for it now, I may have a long, long wait before they will reconsider paying for it. In my case, due to health reasons I'm considering by-pass. I am a low weight, so I am concerned. Will your insurance pay for RNY?

RNY ON APPLE SHAPED.....
reshiapooh96 replied to reshiapooh96's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
LOL...I have a short torso also. I am 5'3" tall. I've been looking at pics too trying to find my body type's before and after pics somewhere. keep me informed too! -
Hello! I would like to hear from anyone that is or know someone else that is/had an apple shaped body. I am in the process of band removal to RNY. I have an apple shaped body meaning that my arms and legs are already thin but my upper body (torso) is very rounded. It is there on the upper body in which I carry my weight. I know I would probably need plastics on the lower abdominal, but can anyone else relate to what I'm saying? will things fall into place?

RNY ON APPLE SHAPED.....
reshiapooh96 replied to reshiapooh96's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well, I was told if you have a large gall bladder scar, then you can not have a full TT. So I know that I'll need a panni and upper arms done. I'm in my late fifties so I need it done like yesterday... LOL. But I am an active person and still want the body that I haven't had since I was fifteen. -
thanks Lissa, and the same to you.

Thanks so much for those much needed stats. I'm hoping to get my (out of control B/P) in control, and diabetes (hopefully) gone.

Had my revision
reshiapooh96 replied to pumpkin73's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Glad to hear that. I hope you have a speedy recovery pumpkin. At least it's been done. Pray for me, I was just approved today! -
I'm like you guys. I told a couple of people at work about the band, one before and the other one after. I get those same looks on the sly and I know what they're thinking also. I was approved today to have band removed and have RNY done. When they start to question my weight loss, I'll just tell them that I finally reached that sweet spot after 3 years.

I saw my Dr. on Thursday evening. It was explained to me that my insurance may not cover to have the band removed and if they did, they may not pay to have another procedure done. He said some companies will only approve a one time wls. On Friday noon, my Dr's office called and said that I was approved for both. I am happy to know that and scared to death LOL. That's b/c I go in weighing 217 lbs. I have diabetes and don't want the complications that my family members have had.

Any Band converters under........

Nailsbyniki, Thanks for helping me make my decision. even though I have a lower weight going in, I don't want to have 2 more surgeries. I had terrible acid reflux with the band until I had some fluid removed. I don't want that again. -
I have around 50 lbs that I would still like to lose and around 80 lbs per the charts.

surgery date- and now SCARED TO DEATH!
reshiapooh96 replied to anappleaday's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You and I both have the same family issues with health. I already have diabetes w/o those complications yet (THANK GOD) therefore; I am getting over this fear to try to make a difference. -

terry1118, I know how you feel. I'm 5' 3" tall and I never look good in my clothes it's a day to day struggle trying to find something that won't make me look sloppy or too big. Yes, I'm afraid but ready to get a date and finalize it. -

why did you convert from the sleeve? My old Dr said that I could be sleeved and if it didn't work for me then I could still have the RNY later. I would prefer NOT to have 2 more surgeries. -

Thank you so much for the advice. It makes me feel a little better. I will be sixty in a few months and was hoping to have it done before my birthday. I'm hoping we can all heed your advice and do as well as you. Thanks! -

You know, I can relate b/c I feel the exact same way. TERRIFIED of just the thought of it. I felt the same way w/ the band. I wish I had listened and did RNY in the first place but it was the fear that led me to the band. This is my last chance and my diabetes may not wait on me to keep procrastinating before complications start. I must do this for my health and it would be nice to look good too. I'm tired of changing clothes 4-5 times before going to work b/c of not looking good in whatever I put on. We are all in this together. LET'S DO THIS! -
Surgery scheduled but nervous
reshiapooh96 replied to pumpkin73's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I must have changed my surgery date at least 5-6 times b/c I was so afraid of getting the band. I was sooo happy when I got it. Now I'm needing it out badly and will discuss it tomorrow with my Dr. You can imagine how afraid I will be when getting a date for RNY. But I know this is what I need now, and to stay on the straight and narrow. I'm so happy for these posts. I do believe now that being afraid is a natural human thing. -
Mel1976, I don't blame you. Oh well, my CT scan came back negative and my Dr. didn't even mention having the band removed. She feels that I need to increase my fiber intake. On my next visit I will explain to her that I have the band to help me to lose weight. I'm not doing that anymore, I'm gaining weight. I couldn't lose weight on my own before and I still can't.

Val is that right? 150 lbs. I didn't think that they would do RNY as low as 150 lbs. But I suppose they would in your case. Keep me informed, please? -

I don't have a date yet, but I will have one in the near future due to what I'm going through with the band. I'm already nervous just thinking about it, but as it was nicely said by someone here, Trust that God will take care of us all.
