  1. Tied2bfit~My insurance paid for my prescriptions, but it's not an expensive med even if yours doesn't pick it up. What does get a little pricey is your protein supplements. You hafta figure out what works for you, what kind and what you are willing to pay. A lot of us have really sensative taste buds and protein supplements are, well, not always very tasty. (no, some of them are just awful! Not sure how even athletes get them down!)
  2. And here all this time I thought sheetay was french...:pound:
  3. Shelbicallie~ I'm glad you chose to not go to that Doc. He really wanted a lot of money just for fills. These docs are so full of themselves. They are angry at people like us who opt for a reasonable price for the placement. Sooner or later they will get over themselves. (maybe) Until they do, thank goodness we have the right to choose. And your right, you could have come here quite a few times for that price. Your fills are free with Dr. K for the first three months. Even if it was 1k each trip, that would be the first three months....hum. Wonder what those docs are thinking.... Also, thanks for all the well wishes. I hope I do get organized....(heehee. this should be interesting! )
  4. Good morning, Girls! Mal~what day is everyone getting together? Biggest looser~ Good job! Isn't it neat to see it work? Littleroo~:biggrin1: Congrats on your new daughter. I'll pray for you that it all goes through. Taynuh~Let us know how your fill goes for you. I didn't know you had a different kind of band. Did he explain to you what this means to you? I've heard they are better now, but not sure in what way. Dynamo~ Today is your day...Here's to the IRS! :censored: Want2bmeagain~Thanks...I am/was crazy nervous. I don't have a clue how I am going to juggle things yet. My little guys are 7 and 4. The hard part is my hubby's hours. They are everywhere. No regular days off, opens at 5am sometimes, gets home at night at 2am sometimes. Plus I have things on the calendar already...chris has to go to Tenn from 14-17 this month, we have a wedding in phx the 29-6 the end of this month. plus I don't ever want to work Christmas or Thanksgiving, and this is not usually an option in health care. (people have to eat and be taken care of regardless of the day) I did it for years but when I had my babies, it was all a different story. But....the good news is, the place I went to yesterday doesn't care. They said they could accomodate everything. They are very flexible. And I managed to find one of the most beautiful retirement villages I have ever seen. (I've seen a few!) And guess, what, I have a job! Woo hoo! We are still going through all the paper work, she's calling my references today, then I sign some more stuff and then the drug test and background check. Guess I'll be working by Monday...(kinda bittersweet) All of your well wishes worked. The photo job was awesome and they were going to hire me... but its a traveling job. Which, 8 years ago before kids would have been my dream job. They have paid training and everything. But can't be gone like that every week. So... Have a great day all!
  5. Hi, Gals! Well, I have some news. My hubby and I agreed that things have been too tight monetarily. (translation: I like to buy stuff.) So, on Saturday I/we decided that I should probably go back to work. Chrisser helped me get my resume made and I made some calls. Today, I have two interviews.:omg: One is back doing geriatric dietary work again. The other is something off the wall...working in a photography studio. The retirement/skilled nursing facility I think will hire me today. I really hope the studio hires me though. Something different, but I have no experience. Wish me luck. I haven't had a job interview since 1995. (Worked at my last job 10 years and have been a home mommy for 2.) OMG I'm so nervous! So nervous, in fact, that my band has been too tight to eat. I'm so glad I didn't get another fill! Ha! I'll let you know how it goes!:nervous:eek::omg:
  6. Want2bme~ Don't stress! We've all done it. You haven't had a fill yet! Pretty much everything is going to go through. (Doh! I didn't say that!) You may have fried potatoes and fluffy bread give you issues right now, and that's about it. This is called Bandster Hell. When you get filled, things will change for you. And when you get filled to your sweet spot, things will really change. I went into last supper mode during this time. (with my leak, I went into this every month! ha!) Too bad we can't get a band for our heads, huh? Squeeze all those bad habits outta there! You'll do great, don't worry! I guess its going to be like quitting smoking. I quit 8 years ago and there are still times I think of them. My grandma had quit for 30 years and said she still thought about them with her morning coffee. Guess its just what we decide to do and not act on it. Hang in there and remember, we all have our moments. Food has been our feel good for so long. {mmmmmmm fried chicken.....:hungry:}
  7. Shesha! Yeah! A new baby! Congrats! I'm so happy for you! What did your obgyn say about your band? Do you need to be unfilled? 9 months feels like FOREVER when your pregnant, but in the world of weight loss, its just a drop in the hat! Feed a healthy little baby and worry about weight loss next summer. You and your hubby must be sooo thrilled!:whoo::hug::preggers:
  8. Taynuh~ I've never used it...but I've never found a kids menue I wanted anything from. (plus I love to have left overs the next day) My hubby is a general manager for RUBY TUESDAY and I know he has told me he honors them, even before I had the band. (did you see the capital letter plug there, guys? ha!) Let me know how other companies handle it as you find out. Good luck!
  9. Good morning! Sounds like all are doing well. Mal~ your pictures are great! It looks like soooooo much fun! And you look great too. It shows on your face in that pic, the loss and the sparkle in your eyes! (and what was that in your hand???) I've been busy lately. I've had friends, 2 sets of Aunts and Uncles, In-laws and my brother popped in on Sunday night....whew!:faint:Luckily not all at the same time! (inlaws and brother overlapped one day) All that company kinda ruins a diet. And the final blow is my brother. Goodness we can really eat together! (rats!) So now I'm up a couple of pounds and I'm not happy about it at all. I'm kinda surprised at how much I can eat right now. Maybe I need a fill? Make sure its good and tight before the holidays to keep the food outta my mouth.:rose: Then I gotta see my brother the first week of Nov for the wedding and Thanksgiving and Christmas. Man, maybe I should get a big fill! Wise choices and healthy day all! (coming from the girl who ate cookies and chips yesterday...)
  10. Hey guys~Thanks! Marcy, how did you know that shirt is too big just from the top? And yes, its a bit big. Gonna wait a little longer before I buy clothes. All my new winter stuff I bought from Lane Bryant last year looks terrible. I bought some of the neatest sweaters and jackets since we owned nothing warm. (We don't wear sweaters in Phoenix.) I got 19 different sweaters and tops...oh well. I can wear the sizes at wallmart now! Woo hoo. (sad, aren't I? hee hee!) :bounce:
  11. Okay, I had my son take another picture of me, since I'm "blond" now and look so different. I'm changing faster than the scale! So, I'm posting my before surgery face shot and my now face shot...like Lap Dancer. There is a difference!
  12. Mornin' All! My new port is treating me well. I had a really hungry day yesterday...I just hate that. But I started the day with carbs, and whenever I do that, it leads to a day of cravings and hunger. Rats. I know these things, when will I learn? So today I'm starting with a protein shake. They aren't bad. Need to thwart the munchies! The numbers on the scale are moving for me and my body seems to be settling (the number on my sizes is moving faster then the number on my scale!). Wish it would move just a little faster so that I can get some new bras! Mal~ not to sound like a dumass....what is yurtin'? I'm so lost! heehee! Dynamo~ Happy Holidays! Brandy~ we'd love to see you at RR! The more, the merrier, and the more we learn about ourselves and our band travels! So far, we are trying to decide between Oct 10 or 11. I'm not sure what day thus far. I never care....I just love getting away with adults that understand all of this and what it really means to us! I'm even up for a second night in Oct if there are a few extras coming from outta town at a different time. As long as the Pass is passable (you never know about the weather here...may snow like crazy early!) I'm there! Drews~ your pics really are adorable. Your eyes really capture a lense! Have a great day all! I'll try and be on more later. Our house is infected with Strep, (my son) so I've been a busy nurse!:omg:
  13. ShelbiCallie~ CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! You did it! You are a Bandster and on your way! :whoo::clap2::whoo::clap2:
  14. Good morning! I didn't get to meet Gurlygirl~ I got there quite early and I was seen right away. (how often does that happen?) I waited in the lobby for a while afterwards, but decided with the rain coming and traffic, to head back to the Springs. I did hit some rain anyways, but the worst of it was still coming from the west. I'm so sorry Gurlygirl! Good luck today, Gurlygirl and ShelbieCallie! We'll be thinking of you! Dynamomini~ I don't care which day. Has anyone heard from Lap Dancer? She hasn't been on in a few. Maybe she has a preference on which day? Mal~ good morning! Well, the Doc checked my incision yesterday, and it's just fine. I didn't need a fill, so I didn't get one. Can you believe it?! Its the first time I haven't needed a fill ever since I've gotten it. That's so neat! Dr. K laughed and said we had enough practice figuring out how much of a fill I needed that we finally got it right! My silly band has had moments this week of feeling too full or feeling not enough, so I must be just about right. They got a new person in their office, a bariatric coordinator. She was really nice, but I forgot her name. (now to treat my Alzheimers!) Have a great day all!
  15. Gurlygirl~ are you ready for your appointment tomorrow? I can't wait to meet you! My appointment is at 2:15, but I usually get there rather early to try and beat the lovely lovely Denver traffic and get back to The Springs. (it reminds me all too well why I got out of Phoenix!) Did I understand your posts earlier that you are coming from Canada, or did you recently move from there? You'll recognize me as I got this terrible wild hair yesterday and bleached my hair blond...and it was a rotten job. Hahaha! I've dyed it twice since then, but it still looks, well, rather icky! Ha! I do something like this every 10 years or so...reminds me why I pay 100 bucks to get it done right the first time! Oh well! It will grow out! Its just hair! Have a great day!
  16. Wow! This thread is usually really slow on weekends! What a day yesterday. LSzeliga~ You are really doing well. Wait until you get some band help. You will be the perfect example of the band at its maximum. Congrats on getting your date and weight loss! Want2bmeagain~ You go girl! Great mind set! Mare~ it was so great to meet you the other night. Can't wait until next month. Dynamo~ We still need to come up with the October date for our dinner...suggestions on when the most will be here? Oct 10 and 11th Lap Dancer will be here too.......maybe one of those days? (Plus, I'm always up for more than one night! ha!) It's just soo neat to put people to these posts!
  17. Dynamomini~ Sorry about your thai food. Something about some seafood...maybe its just more fibrous than it seems? A latte and a cookie...well, not the healthiest choice I'm sure...but I would like it!!!:woot: Guess that's why I don't have a diet book out there...heeheehee! Anita and the "Cookies and LapBand Series". Goodness, Doctor K would have a fit! I hope things go down for you better today!
  18. Hi! Taynuh~ Don't worry, I'm sure your doing great. Plus, sooner than you will realize, will be your first fill. That will help you make different decisions. I went into last supper mode so badly before my first fill. I managed to put 5 lbs on the week before that first fill. Hang in there! You're in what is called "bandster hell". Want2bmeagain~ The bra thing really hit home. We actually discussed bra's at dinner the other night. I too am getting the 2 I have (from Wally World!) to make it for a few more pounds (10 more exactly!). The only thing sadder than an old worn out walmart bra is 2 old worn out ones that no longer really fit! Ha! You crack me up! We just hafta meet one day! As far as what the doc replaced, if you look at your lapband booklet thingy (do you have one?) If you look at the port area, about 2 inches going toward the band looks like a fitting. Just to that point it is replaced. Probably like 6 inches total? As far as being "awake" for it. I wasn't. I was sedated a lot more than I thought I would be. Not really a bad thing. I remember them prepping me with blue towels and then draping with a blue sheet like in a csection. Then the really nice anesthesiologist said, "I'm going to put the sedative in your iv now." I looked over at the injection into the line....and that's all she wrote! I woke up an hour later, (which was a lot easier than going under all the way) and went home. The nurse said the Doc pressure tested the port after he got it out and it was indeed leaking. How is your soreness doing? Today I actually feel much better. The bruises are also starting to fade to a yucky yellow and the tingly itchy healing feeling has set in. Yeah! I really hope you are feeling better. But don't get discouraged if you feel great for 3 days and then have a very sore day. That was on and off for a month with me. It sucks, but it seems to be part of it. Shelbi~ Don't freak! Everything will be great! Yup, 10K is a lot of money, but you are soooo worth it! You can't even get a half way decent used car for that...This is for you and the rest of your life! You deserve to feel better and live a healthier life. You've done the research, you've got a great doc. This is for you! For further reassurance, go to the before and after pix on this forum. You can do it! :whoo: I'm cheering for you!
  19. Hi, Mal! More port is sore... But I also know I've been overdoing it. Yesterday was field day for Wesley and I had to get the Cub Scout calendars done yesterday and the kids need bathing, my aunt and uncle are in town, well, you know how it is. Ha! I also haven't taken any pain killers since Tues night cuz I just hate the way they make me feel. So I've been ibuprofen it. As for this fill...I'm not sure. The other night when we were together I wasn't sure if it was in there at all. But yesterday, I urped a couple of times. So there is something in there. I don't know. I'm not even sure he will do a fill on Monday. It may be too soon. And, do I really need one? My gut managed to bruise really nice. Eeeek! But the incision seems to be doing fine despite the fact the tape came off prematurely. Lordy I'm whiny! And it's not even pms! hahahahahaha! Want2bmeagain~ how are you doing pain-wise? Hopefully its doing a little better! Hang in there. I'm thinking about you!
  20. The belly doesn't just equal gas, it's a lot of fluid too. (another reason the scale goes up instead of down at first) I don't have the gas issue,(none used) and I'm sticken way out there! (Just my top roll~hahaha!)
  21. Good morning all! Want2bmeagain and Gurlygirl~ the swelling thing mostly depends on how your body responds to surgical trama. Mine lasted about 4 weeks. I think that Dynamo said hers lasted more like 5-6 weeks. It's weird how it will look so much better in the morning, almost normal and by 2 in the afternoon it will be back and by bed time, fa-git-abat-it! Sorry girls...it's more than likely going to be there when you go back to work. Gurlygirl~ I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I've been layin' low. My gut has been a bit more sore than I anticipated. I guess there really is no such thing as "minor" surgery. Actually, I'm almost as sore as when I had the whole thing done...just without the gassy build up.(thank goodness!) And I can eat! (another thank goodness!) I would love to see you on Monday! Have a great one!
  22. Sorry your pic didn't show, Dynamo! Let's see if I can get some of mine on with this silly thing. I never remember what I did from month to month! Ha! I had a great time too....soo soo nice to have Amy and Marilyn there! first Pic, front, left to right...Me, (anita) Marilyn, Amy Back, left to right...Michelle, Maalani Second pic, Michelle, Marilyn third pic, Maalani, Anita, Amy's rabbit ears! fourth pic, Anita, Michelle fifth pic, Amy, Maalani
  23. Good afternoon! Well, this morning has brought me a very swollen tummy around 4 months along, almost as much as when we had the hole thing placed. Oh my! And my scale is up 5 lbs...so you know what that means?! I'm having a 5lb baby Port! Hee hee! I think the ultra sound shows its a boy! Ha ha!:biggrin1::biggrin1: Sorry, just being silly! Lortab can do that to you! I'm looking forward to tonight and meeting 2 more people to boot! Yeah! I'm sore, but not sore enough to miss tonight! You will hafta excuse the belly protrution thing though. Silly swelling! I have a post-op appointment on Monday....anyone going to be in the office? I'd love to meet someone else too! My visit is at 2:15...which means I'll be there until 5 or so....hahahahahahaha! Well, gotta go dig through some boxes that are yet to be unpacked and see if I can find my old camera...wonder if it still works? See you all soon.....Another good luck to Want2bmeagain and Stephaniez's hubby!
  24. Hi again! I just got back from our Pack Meeting for our little Cub Scouts. Note to self: one should not wear jeans the day of surgery! Ha! I think I had them half off before I even got up the stairs! Hellooooo Lortab! Dynamo~ You're doing great with the organization of RR night. Another person that expressed interest is Rosey80231. She's not banded yet and full of questions! That would be great to get 6 of us there! (Well, 7 if you include Lap Dancer in our hearts! {{{hugs}}}) Next month should be even bigger! I don't think that I will have a camera. Goodness, I'll feel naked. I don't go anywhere without that thing You or Mal need to make sure to bring one. (gotta have pics!!) Stephaniez~ Wow! You've lost 95 lbs in less than a year!??? How great is that? Were you also banded by Dr K? Congrats for your husband. Was it something that he wanted to do on his own? Watched you do well and decided to too? I really wish my brother would get it done. He was supposed to do it with me last April, but chose not to. (his BMI must be around 55-60) And with all the silly stuff I've had occur, he teases and tells me I'm not reassuring him. HA! You're right though, you should be with him afterwards. Maybe you can make it in Oct? And your hubby too? Men never think they need any support, but they usually do a little better with a cheering section too! Heeeeee! Can't wait until tomorrow night! We'll have to see how this fill is....ha! I'll practice with you guys in public! hahaha! Just kidden...I'll be good. Good luck Want2bmeagain! You'll be in my heart and prayers tomorrow!
