Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Woofay replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Okay, I'm home. That was not fun at all. The Doc called back in like 5 minutes and said to meet him at the crown center at 10. So I had to hustle and get the kids up, dressed, to my mom's, and then headed north to Parker. I made it there at 9:50 and saw him out front. We headed in for the unfill. He took a little out, but everything was so irritated and sore that I couldn't tell if it was enough or not. So, like with Sunnysea, he said he would like to remove it all and let it rest and heal. So, I've had a complete unfill. The only difference at first was that I was able to swallow my spit. (nice, huh?) But within an hour or so I was feeling sooooo much better. He told me to take some pepcid for a few days and make an appointment for next week and we would start the filling thing again. You know, I was kinda embarrassed, but he made me feel better. Can you imagine, he called back within 5 minutes. I am so impressed with him. And he was worried that I was discouraged and upset that I was banded. Heck no! These things happen. Then, I guess because it was all over and I was tired, I fell asleep at my mom's. But I am home now and feeling better. Thanks for all the support everyone! You're all so sweet! I thought of you right away, Sunnysea. I think my hubby wanted to go to the er, but I knew that would be expensive and would accomplish nothing. I thought, boy, I know someone else who did this...Weird how I was fine while I was in his office. Even on the ride home I was fine and drinking my coffee as usual. Marcy, I'm so glad that you are feeling well. Or as well as anyone should who just had surgery! JenniferNAz~good luck tomorrow. You really are in good hands! -

okay, i left him a message. At least I waited until 8. Wonder how long his call back is. I have to get a sitter and stuff if he can get me in to get unfilled. I feel really bad. Wonder if you instantly feel better after the unfill? I tried a sip of water, and I haven't returned it yet, but i don't think it has gone down either. Anyways, I'll quit whining. I'll let you know how it turns out.:think -

Hi, all. Well, I've been up all night, throwing up. I can't even swallow my own spit. I've made it to 7 this morning and I just called the Dr. office and they don't open until 9. There is an option for getting a hold of the doc directly. Do you consider this an urgent need? I hate to bug Doctors in off hours. I think that my hubby wanted to take me to the er last night, but after listening to what went on with Sunnysea, I don't think it would have done any good. I hate to spend an extra 200 bucks to have them send me home to "follow up with your doc in the morning". I don't even remember what hours he is available and what hours he is in surgery. Lordy, I think that I would drive to Parker right now and lay on the floor to have an unfill done....:help: -

Hi guys. Goodness, the golf ball feeling lasted all through my son's baseball game. Then it eased up. After the game the whole family wanted to go to Gunther Toodies...my Mom came to see the game...so I ordered only a small bowl of mashed potatoes with gravy. Well, after about two bits of that and the pressure started again. Goodness, it's quite painful. So now my chest really hurts. Then, by the time we got home, I think I may have been sliming. Kinda nasty. And then I threw up. All it was was gravy colored slime. (sorry to be grafic, but it's not like I had something stuck) Man, what an evening thus far. So from 5:30 to about 9:30 I've had some serious pressure or golfball or whatever. I feel a little better, but even water feels like it's not going down. Wholly cow, what have I done to myself? Do you guys think that this eases up and gets better, or am I just overtight? Hate to do it, especially if I do have a slow leak, but I may have to have the Doc remove some of this tomorrow. I would suffer through a few days of this if it gets better, but hate to do that if it doesn't. (sorry if that doesn't make any sense):eek: -

Preview Hi, Mal! I'm back. What an interesting fill this was. I was supposed to be at 2.9cc. Well, he started the fill and I could tell no difference and he kept adding and adding. When we got to a certain point that I felt a difference, he said he wanted to calibrate this time. So he said that he wanted to pull all of it out and see how much was there. So he did. And after today's fill I was at 2.1cc So I asked him "where did all the rest of the fluid go?" He says, "that's a very good question." So, I may have a leak. Rats. So I have another appointment in a month so he can see what is in there. Or another possibility is that the first fill missed the port. I had a lot of scar tissue and fluid with the first fill. Lets hope that is what it is. So I get home, because my 2:15 appointment wasn't over until 4:15 and I got home at 5:30, and I've only had a small hamburger patty for breakfast, I'm starving. I tried some of my left over tuna casserol from last night. Two very small bites chewed to pudding and it is not going down. It's still there feeling like a golf ball. How long will it stay there? It's been like 10 minutes. Lordy I wish I'd just PB and get it over with. I guess you could say it's tight now! Too tight. Hafta see where it goes from here. If it gets looser and looser I supposed I have a leak, eh? If it stays this tight for too long, I'll hafta go and have some taken out. Fickle, aren't I??? Hahaha Anyways, can't wait to see you all on Thursday! Let's see if I get to eat anything! Ha! Soup for me! (okay, the golf ball is starting to lessen, but it's not gone!) Talk to you all later -

Good morning, All! Mal, congratulations on the numbers moving! I'm so happy for you! Well, today is fill'er up day! I really hope this does the trick. And I don't know about up there in Denver today, but we are having some crappy weather here in the Springs. We are having 40 mph winds and its cloudy and cold. I don't know if I'll ever get used to the weather here in Colorado. But at least I can wear some of my warmer clothes I just bought this last January, seeing as how I really hope they don't fit this next winter. Marcy has her surgery this moring! Let's all send our good vibes her way. :gluck: Have a great day everyone! -

OMG! Okay everyone...alert the media! I have finally lost another pound! It's only been forever! I know, its only one, but maybe there will be some change before I go to the Doc tomorrow. Woo hoo, I finally get to change my ticker...{tear rolling down face} Ha ha ha! Have a great day everyone...hope the trip speeds up for you Marcy! Congrats on the moved up date, JenniferNAz! I got my date early because it was Friday The 13th and someone cancelled due to that. I said, that will be my lucky day and took the date! Have a great trip! (even with your dad:)) -

Mal, that means its working! Yay for you! Yes, eating less is a good thing! Hee hee! Shesha~ well, we'll all try and meet up when you stay a little longer.:think That is great that you are getting your fill the same day. It'll either hurt really bad (the needle) or you won't feel it at all. Hopefully, you won't feel it, or at least not remember it! Are you having the revision done in Parker or in the office? -

Shesha~ I can see the difference in your pictures! Your bottom is so much smaller! You know, I've looked at mine and there is yet to be a real difference. (my hubby and I are taking monthly pictures of me. oh my) I have a lot more to lose than you, so hopefully sooner or later it will show as well as yours. So glad that your finally getting the port fixed. How long after surgery will he do another fill for you? I think I told you this before, you've done great without gaining this whole time. I think your weight loss will really take off after it's all fixed and filled! How long are you going to be in town? Maybe, if the surgery isn't too rough on you (its supposed to be easier than the full thing, isn't it?) we could maybe all get together? If your up for it. If not, another time. Dynamo~ do you think we could get some of us together twice in one month? (If Shesha wants) I know I'm always up to going out~ especially to Denver! (I think I miss the bigness of Phoenix once in a while!) -

Mal! That is sooo kewl that you are having good restriction. I'm so jealous! I can't imagine not really feeling hungry. Isn't it neat when you are filling out your kcal stuff that you realize you haven't even used all the foods that you are allowed? So awsome. You'll have to let us know how the scale responds. Hopefully it gives you the numbers you are looking for...like lower and lower every week! :clap2: Maybe I should let him fill it until its uncomfortable and then back off. You're the only one of the newbies that has some satisfaction with their band right now. (all except for the cat hack!) Make sure you get some of your pictures done! King Soopers has a special that if you spend 25 bucks in one trip (like it's possible not to) you get your prints for 10 cents a piece. It's cheaper than Snapfish or printing them yourself. Can't wait to see you! -

Hi and Welcome, Marilyn! I can't believe you read the whole thing either...very nice! Its a long one! So, are you local, or are you traveling from far away lands like MarcyinAk and Lap Dancer? I personally am local and have done well with the whole process. I seem to get in fairly quickly for my fills. I'm happy with it. It's just getting to that place I need to be with the fills...hee hee! Fill 'er up on Tuesday! How long have you been interested in getting a lap band? This website was a true life saver for me! It helped me find a surgeon, gave me courage to get it done (I swear, I think the people here actually "held" my hand the day of surgery!), and continues to give me strength every day! Again, welcome! :whoo: -

DynamoMini~ I'm so sorry to hear about your ankle. Keep it iced and you'll be as good as new before you know it. Other than that, I'm glad you had a nice time in the mountains. It's just sole cleansing to get up in the trees and mountains? Did you get a chance to see any wildlife? Don't forget your pictures of New York on Thursday! Mal~ Hows your fill going? Any more alarming experiences? The last few days this fill has seemed like more. I bet I don't need hardly any on Tuesday. Probably less than .5cc. Drewslou~ how is your slight unfill going? How's the knee doing? Lap Dancer~ your just awsome. Thanks for making me smile! Angie38~are you still out there? Marcy~We'll be thinking of you Tuesday morning! Woo hoo and good luck! Well, ladies, I'm so on for Thursday. And guess what? King Soopers had a special on photo printing, so now I have a few pictures to bring also. (Since I was a bad mom last time and had no pictures of my babies!) -

Hi, Karen. I, too, am sorry to hear about your experience with Dr. K. I noted the concern you have over the percentage of weight lost with the lap band. Those percentages have to do with the motivation of the person/patient that receives it. It's just a tool, not a fix all. Even with it, losing the weight is work. Perhaps this procedure is not for you? -

Hey Mal! Wasn't me who said to get on all fours! Hee hee! Now that's a true cat hack! :biggrin1: I'm with Drews picturing this! (just kidding...bet it was rather scary!) Drews~sorry to hear about your bad experience with Mary. She's been nothing but kind with me. And she doesn't know a lot about lap band procedures. She's fresh outta school as a medical assistant. Dr. K's office seems to do a lot of training. Also, so glad your feeling better and able to eat better. It must be a relief! Does he take fluid out only if there is a problem or you request it? That would be weird to me. Does he put fresh saline in or the old? I don't know why that interests me. Dynamo~ are you outta the mountains yet? Angie38~it's about time you said hi! Hope all is well with you! Do you think that you are going to make it the 12th? Is anyone going to the group meeting on the 10th? Just wondering. Have a great day! -

Ha ha ha, Marcy! Wish I had heard that warning before Christmas! Moon Sand is the messiest, hardest-to-clean-up stuff I have ever let my children play with! And to us, not nearly as fun and cooperative to play with as playdoh. Really hope that you feel up to coming out to see us! -

Okay, I survived the night on the ground. Stiffly I might add! We went fishing yesterday, and well, we had pizza for dinner if that tells you anything about how it went! We are going fishing again today, to a different lake, so lets hope I get to fry some trout tonight! Then, once again, an opportunity to sleep on the ground! Woo hoo! Shesha! Glad to hear from ya! I hope the time goes quickly for you! How long after it is fixed do you have to wait before you can start filling it? Congratulations on not gaining anything. You've done very well! Mal~ your funny. You're doing all the stuff I did. I enjoyed rib eye right before my fill too! Good luck today...let us know how you do! Have a great one! -

Hi, JenniferNAz! Welcome! Are you coming up from Arizona? They want to see your nail beds because it is the first sign of your body not getting enough oxygen during surgery. They check to see if they "blanch" which is when you push down on your fingernail and it turns white then back to pink or if they are turning bluish. (I'm not a nurse, but I think this is right, been a couple years since I worked) You will need to check with Dr. K about what he wants. I have no clue what he wants as I have my own icky nails! Good luck with everything. Keep us posted! -

Mal~ you don't need to do liquids before your fill. But he told me not to eat much for a couple of hours before. I guess it does make sense not to eat a 4 course meal before it. DrRX~ I started my pre-0p diet on April 1st and my surgery was on the 13th. I can't say I went into last supper mode then. I went into last supper mode before my first fill. That was kinda bad... Well everyone, I am camping out in the back yard with my boys. We told them we would. What was I thinking? So the tent is up, the sleeping bags are ready...and I hope I don't sneak back upstairs to my bed during the night! hee hee! Wonder if my WiFi works out to the middle of the backyard???!!! Good morning! Looking forward to some great 4th of July times...my hubby is actually off for a few (4) days. Much deserved after the many hours of work and conference in Tennessee the last few weeks. Almost forgot what he looks like! Hee hee! The scale is yet to move, but its also not moving up, so that's not so bad. For some reason lately my band has felt tighter also. Had a bit of my first PB out at Gunther Toodies the other night. Wasn't bad and was over very quickly and not as bad as some I've heard described, but surprising nontheless! I was eating a grilled tuna sandwich, which I know we are not suposed to do bread, but nothing has really effected me yet. Pretty wild! I would think, right now, that around .5 cc will put me right where I want to be. Can't wait for the 10th to see if that's the ticket! Dynamo~ are you settling in after your fabulous vacation? Your last post sounded like you were able to talk yourself back in the groove! You have such a wonderful mindset! MAL!!!! Tomorrow is the day! You're going to be filled up! Woo hoo! You will have a "mature" band! Hurray! Drews~ do you think you still need a slight unfill? And you say this just happened that it got tighter? So wild! Marcy~ the time is getting closer! You must be excited! DrRX~Are you getting freaky excited since they scheduled your surgery date? I remember I was just walking on a cloud when they actually gave me my date! Lap Dancer~ has anything worked out yet? Have a great day! It is going to be a warm one here today! Goodness I wish I could move this ticker thing! -

We'll really miss you. Mal~Thanks for the well wishes. I hate it when I get down about my weight. Drewslou~hope you can make it! We missed you last time! So your saying that outta no where you band just got tighter? Wow. That's got me a little freaked out. MarcyinAK~hope we get to meet you too and that it all goes well! Okay, we can do this. :whoo: -

Good morning! Is everyone (local) enjoying this nice cool down? We really got some weather yesterday! In our area we got a lot of everything but rain. Crazy Colorado! But I love it! It's better than the hot or hotter of Phoenix! Well, the scale has yet to move further. I'm beginning to question this lap band and myself. I think the only thing that will work for me is to have my mouth permenently sewn shut. I really hope that the 10th brings me a change of attitude. At first I seemed to be ahead of my goals. Now I'm behind. I wonder sometimes if there is anything in there. Well, the 12th will be here before we know it. Dynamo~ I'm just great with Red Robbin again. I enjoyed everything that night. The company, the food, the service. (mostly the company!) I bought some new ink for my printer (lordy that expensive) so that I can bring some pictures. I can't seem to find my already done pictures since I moved. I know they are here somewhere, just don't know where. (I know they are here because I didn't let the movers touch them!) Good morning, All! Great pictures, everyone! When we meet again on the 12th, I'll try and remember some pictures to bring. Well, Grandpa finally passed away last night. The poor guy hung in there in a non-responsive state for days and days. (6 days) I think our poor Grandma had taken about all she could. Thank goodness there are wonderful programs like hospice in this world. I can stop jumping everytime the phone rings and quit trying to be good during all the cravings for comfort food. Lap Dancer~I understand about your fill. I am still there. Doctor says that if you are staying full for 3 or more hours after you eat, your on the right track. But I feel like I can eat more than I should also. Its definately less than it was before, but that's not saying much. (I could really eat!) I liked that feeling we had after surgery when we first started on solids. Man, I could fill up on 1 1/2 chicken strips. And all "bad" foods seemed to make a golf ball. Need to get there again! Drewslou~Why are you too tight? Did you recently get a fill? (if I missed/forgot the post where you told us, I'm sorry) It doesn't just outta no where get tighter does it? How's the knee? Are you almost back to normal? Dynamo Mini~ Are you home from New York yet? Did you have a great time? Wish I was there too! Mal~How are you doing? Can't wait to see you again on the 12th! Don't worry about your fill. It's quite the experience and super weird, but not bad! Time to get your band to do what you paid it to do! Hee hee! MarcyinAK~the Atkin's sure will kick your butt at first. Tired, hungry and leg cramps like crazy. But then it changes and gives you great energy and weight loss. Sorry your having a hard time with it. It will get better. Can you imagine the pre-op diets some of the doctor's put their patients on? Some are on liquids for weeks before and weeks after. I never would have made it. Liquids suck. Hee hee! Thanks for the pictures. Alaska seems like such a far away land to me. The pictures of "the reasons why I am doing this" really hit home for me. I have a set of "those" pictures on the fridge too. Aren't babies wonderful? DrRX~ Welcome! You'll love Dr. Kirshenbaum. He will really make you feel comfortable with your decision to have this done. If you read back in this thread, you'll see how satisfied we all were with everything- the Doc, the facility, the office staff, everything. Where are you located? Again, welcome! Have a great day, everyone! -

My brother-in-law and his wife live in Manhattan. It sounds fantastic and it's so great that you are getting to see some shows. All they do is walk in New York, you're getting some great exercise too! Are you getting some good pics to share with us on the 12th? I hope so! Have a great time tomorrow night at the wedding.
