Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Woofay replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Good Morning, my gals! Mal~ I know I need to put that "Evil Creation From Hell" (the scale) away. But just...can't... seem...to do it! (Say that like Captain Kirk) Hee hee! But, after 5 days of the SB diet, I'm now back down to where I was when I started it. Really, it makes no sense. But not being up always puts a smile on my face. (Dynamo~ I know, I know! I'm more than a number. I wish I could believe that in my mind!) I'm tracking the progress and I'll ask the Good Doc today what he makes of it. I have an appointment this afternoon. Maybe I'll go in a little early and hopefully get outta there before the monsoon hits again. We have had storms in the afternoon here that make me want to huddle in the basement like my little doggy does! Rush hour in it just does not sound like fun. The other night we had 3 inches of rain in an hour and a half. Anyways, I plan to get about .3cc put in. (like the subject change?) Hopefully that will do it. Maybe he will calibrate it again and see whats in there? Talk to you all this evening. Can't wait for Thursday night! Who all will be there??? Come one locals...lets do it! :bounce: -

You guys! Don't be afraid to use the phenergan suppositories! That's why he perscribes them. I know, I know, eeeeeeeeeeeew! I had been doing fine, and then I drank a protein supplement that did not agree with me at all. I was about 5 days out from surgery. I was pacing and doing all I could not to vomit. Dr. K---"whatever you do, don't vomit!" was all that was going through my head. My husband looked at me and gave me the "Don't be proud, just use it." And handed me the white glove and suppository.(oh god, yuck) Soooooo, I did.(eeeeeeeeeeeew!) Wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. And the relief started in as little as 3 minutes. Really! I felt a little silly for being so weird about it. Just thought I would share a little advice! Hee hee! :bounce: -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Dr. Kirshenbaum question
Woofay replied to want2bmeagain's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
OH YA~~Disclaimer...this is just my opinion and my experience. No references to other's or their experiences is intended or implied. (hee hee! Sorry, just being silly) Also, who told you to not pick a surgeon who has not performed at least 500 lap bands? Wonder where that kind of stuff comes from? Have a great day! -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Dr. Kirshenbaum question
Woofay replied to want2bmeagain's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi, Want2bmeagain! Congrats on your decision to be banded. It's a huge one. Dr K doesn't just do lap band surgery. He is a regular surgeon. He is one of the leaders, pioneers and perfectors of all laproscopic surgery. He has changed and perfected his band placements to the point of really no errosion or slippage. I did allow myself to get too full with one of my fills and it was a nasty reaction! I called him at 8 in the morning and he returned my call at 8:05. I'm not kidding. He had me meet him at the hospital that he was performing surgeries at that day at 10:00, which really was as soon as I could possibly make it. (I'm in the Springs and his surgerical center is in Parker) My problem was fixed right then, right there. Just like that. The first three months of adjustments and fills are free, whether that be three fills or 10. After that you pay $15.00 for a fill. If you just go in for an appointment after your three months and you and he decide that you don't need a fill, you pay nothing. There are a few things that are a factor, though. It's a very busy office. So if your appointment is at 1, the chances of you being seen at 1 are slim ("slim" get it? Hee hee!) (sorry ). Probably partly because of the amount of people he sees in one day and the fact that he is very responsive to his patients and if someone (like me!) calls with a problem, he calls them back. It all takes his time. Plus if a consult needs more info and takes an hour of his time, he gives it. I, however, have never had any kind of doctor appointment, regardless of office or reason, that I was seen within an hour of my appointment. That's just how doctors' offices are. (I've seen some people just blow a gasket over this!) Also, his waiting room and consult rooms are small and not overly fancy. I know, this sounds fairly petty in the realm of surgical experience and care, but believe it or not, someone on the board was put off by this. So if ambiance and size of the office matter to you, take that into consideration. There are no fancy chandeleirs, vaulted ceilings, or plush leather couches to wait in. It's a doctor's waiting room. Period. I have heard rumor though that he is planning to move his practice. I don't know how much truth is in that. It's just what I've heard. I wouldn't care if it was in the basement of a factory. I've had the best care that I could have ever hoped for. But that's just me. I'm not an aesthetics person. Having banding with him also gives you a monthly support group free of charge. (like Mal said) It can be very helpful for some people. (not sure how much you would utilize something like this as 6 hours is a long time to drive!) I have made the hour and twenty minute drive for it. Its just a matter of where you are mentally with your weight and what effects a large weight loss will have on you. My surgery was April 13th, (a friday!!! lol) and I recovered very quickly. I've had serveral previous surgeries (unrelated, years ago) and I have never come out of anesthesia so easily or recovered so easily. I did have one issue. I had a reaction to the adhesive that is used for the tape over the incisions. Man did I itch! But with my sensative skin, I would have been surprised if something didn't happen. That's about it. I've tried to be partial about the info, but I'm so pleased with his office, that it's hard for me not to be prejudicial about it. There is no psych eval or huge panel of medical tests to go through. He is the final decision on whether you recieve it though. You know, the certain criteria needed to have obesity surgery. BMI, health factors, stuff like that. Let us know if you have any other questions. Hope that we can help! :bounce: -

Okay, I went up and weighed. I'm up 6 lb. Can someone please explain this to me? I swear, there are no hidden carbs or anything like that in my diet. I ate a small piece of salmon and green beans for dinner last night. A salad with vinagarette dressing and crab meat for lunch, a scrambled egg with low fat cheese for breakfast. I had a lowfat cheese stick for a snack. Just like in that stupid diet book. OMG :omg:. I know it's only been two days. And I can accept the not losing anything for two days. But to go up that much???! How many days should I give this? How many pounds should I gain before I stop? Wholly crap. Anyone with knowledge of this, please let me know. Does crying use up calories? :think -

JFK~ well, you had some moments before your surgery, but it looks like everything was well taken care of for you. You may have mentioned it before, but where did you travel from for your surgery? Congratulations on being banded. It can be quite the adventure, as it has been for me! There have been some tense moments but I have enjoyed the ride so far. Sounds like you had a good experience with the Crown Center Surgical Center too. I've never been treated so well by a facility. " We started digging through the shopping bags, and of course the stinkin' suppositories had gone missing somewhere. You absolutely MUST have your suppository before surgery...crap!" You poor thing! I can't imagine. I was fairly stressed about this too, and to go through what you went through with this...oh my! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger...or so they say! Okay, everyone...I will be out of town in Phoenix from Nov 1-Nov 6. There are to be no big get-togethers planned during this time!!!! There, I said it! Hee hee! I would be heartbroken to miss a chance to meet everyone! Just a note, too, the weather can start getting kinda nasty in November, but is usually still okay in October. (but it is Colorado so who knows what the weather brings? We had snow in June this year!) So all of you who are coming from all over the planet to see Dr. K for fills, check ups, consults, surgery...etc. start working on a date. If we start working on it now, who knows how many of us we can meet! EEEEEEEEEEEEE, this could be fun! (I'd want to do this more than ever go to one of my class reunions! HA!) I've lived through 2 days of SB diet. With no cheating I might add.:whoo: Do I step on the scale? Hummm. I'll hafta contemplate this one. If that sucker has gone up more... Has anyone on here started this diet and not lost weight at first? I would love to hear from you about your experience on the South Beach. Have a good day! -

Lap Dancer~ Yes, its very cruel! Wouldn't you love to know what is going on with our bodies during this? There can be a group of days that I do soooo well, I'm so proud of myself. Then I step on that *@**!!@ scale and I'll be up.:angry I think that's when the bad choices comes in. I figure if I'm going to stay fat anyways, I might as well eat the stuff I want. :speechles Why suffer to "gain". Bad theory, I know. But my mind does not work correctly when it comes to food and eating. (That's obvious) Not sure how to fix that mind-set, but everyday I try. I really wish you were coming too. You'll hafta let us know as soon as you can come so we can arrange things! :Banane21: -

Good morning! Okay, I lived through my first day of the SB diet...and my weight is up 2lbs this morning...whatever! I'll give it 2 weeks though. (someone help me quit being such a scale whore!) Everyone keeps saying how good they feel when they work out...I need to get the paper work signed over at my place. If I remember correctly, 3X a week is the goal?? Or do you guys go more? Dynamo~ Your right...it sounds like you don't need any more of a fill. However, Dr. K said it's not a bad idea to touch base with him monthly and see him even if you don't need a fill. If you are having a hard time with the healthy foods too, maybe a little out? What day were you supposed to go? I'm scheduled for Aug 7th. Think I will try a little more in mine. Maybe like .3 or .4 of a cc. Don't think that I will go by "swallow". Hee hee! We all know what can happen! ha! :Banane21: It just so happens that that is the day of the Group Counseling in his office. I was going to stick around for it, but remembered that my hubby has a meeting that night. Oh well. (got my gals on the 9th!:Banane21:) Well, happy day all! On to another day of SB diet! Give me the power to avoid the yummy foods!!!!!! (that sounded wrong, didn't it?:success1:) -

Lap Dancer~ congrats on your decision for counseling. Let me know how it goes. (you can pm me on your opinion of it...nothing personal of course) Might be needing some of my own also. Mal~ Thanks for the kind words....heehee! Its a book that says "The South Beach Diet", by Arthur Agatston, MD. It's a hard back and I got it off of Biblio.com. I paid a whole buck for it. (used) It's in perfect condition. (all the books I get through them have been in great condition). I also got the small book to go with it called South Beach Diet, Good Fats Good Carbs Guide. I paid a buck for it also. I've had it since a week after surgery, hee hee! Flipped through it and said, "eeeeeeeeeeeew, no way". And Dr. K continues to tell me to go home and read it. He recommends it for everyone, not just his lap band patients. So I finally did. (three months later!) So, I'll let you know if it's made any difference. I think I got all the bad food outta my system with my brother! You're going Thursday, right? (you hafta) Dynamo~hows your funk today? Hopefully doing better. Justplainme~ congrats! Sure wish you were local.... Maybe we'll all figure something else out to somehow, someday meet up! It'll happen. We've met Marcy from Alaska, Lap Dancer from Florida...we'll add Tiffany from Missouri! Are you coming here for your fills and post care, or are you finding something closer for that? Welcome to the board! Okay, have a good night....and I'm not dreaming about a nice fried pile of potatoes, okay? I'm not! With extra salt and melted cheese...maybe some sour cream. I'm not. Potatoes are bad. Very bad! Hee hee! -

THE FUNK! I HATE THE FUNK! I too, feel like I might be in a bit of a funk. So, I'm trying to get myself outta the funk. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to join Slim-N-Tone and start trying to get some of these pounds off. Work it, Baby! Ha! Also.....don't faint....I've started the dreaded South Beach Diet today.:omg::omg::Banane20::omg::omg::eek: I finally read the book that I've had for quite some time, and thought, what the H**L, I suppose 2 weeks of a hard diet won't kill me. I think that I'll do okay when it liberalizes some. Dr. K says it will do everything we want it to do with this band, so I trust him. But this first two weeks! :omg: I went over to my favorite WallyMart and bought some foods that I would not normally ever buy. I'm there. I did it. I will do it. This band will help me eat the different foods I need to eat to be healthier and thinner. I've lost 40lbs and I can do the rest too. Yeah! (did that sound positive?) :whoo: Dynamo~I love the invitation! It's maaaaaahvelous! And you can count me in! I'll be there! There, there, there! Any other locals want to get together?!! The support is amazing! The band is a tool and it takes all kinds of other work to get it where you want it to be! Come join us! Mal! Glad you went back to the gym! That first go is the toughest! (I'm living proof of that! hee hee!) Can't wait to see you next thursday! Lap Dancer~ yes, the ex-step-niece! Okay, my brother married this woman forever ago that already had a 2 year old. She was a very sweet little girl. Well, 10 years later my brother and this woman split up, very abruptly, and I haven't seen my little step niece in 6 years. She turned 18 and decided that she wanted to see my brother again as he was the most stable "dad" she had. Our family always loved her unconditionally and she was "ours" for 10 years regardless of the fact that my brother wasn't her biological father. So, she wanted to connect with all of us again. We used to live in Phx, but not anymore. So my brother brought her up here to see us all. It was really great. Just because someone is taken from you doesn't mean the love stops. It was quite the reunion. She turned into such a beautiful, smart, young woman. At first it was a bit weird, but by the end it was like no time was missed. Strange that she drives now and goes to college and moved out to get away from the craziness of all the family stuff. Hard to suddenly see that little girl driving...so adult and all. But it was wonderful to get her back! So that's my long story of my ex-step-niece! hee hee! Have a great night, Everyone! -

Good morning, All! Well, my little brother and ex-step-niece (long story there...) have left and it's time to really get back to the process of weight loss. We have had so much fun and have done as much as we could in the days they were here. Did you ever realize how much the fun stuff involves food? We did the Royal Gorge, Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs twice, Flying W Ranch, Fargos, and The Renaissance Festival. Hit Patsy's Candies, a bbq, my famous homemade chicken burritos, mexican food out once, a large pot roast with potatoes dinner, the Cracker Barrel, Cold Stone Creamery...Goodness! Somehow I only went up 1lb. I can't even imagine how much I would have gained without this band! (sorry if I made anyone hungery!) Maybe walking 400 miles durning it all helped to keep that down? Welcome to all the newbies! Get ready for the adventure of your life! It is so neat learning your band and losing weight! I hadn't seen my brother since I had the band and he was very impressed with the loss and said I look so different. It's neat to have someone notice. Okay, I'm looking into some gyms and workout places. (Those of you who know my opinion of exercising, don't faint!) I think due to location I am going to choose Slim-N-Tone. I used to go to Curves in Phx, and they have a few up here, but the closest one to my house is not close and involves some streets that really suck in the snow. Any input from anyone? (positive or negative) Thanks! DynamoMini~Hope your ladies are doing well! :biggrin1: Did we say we were getting together Thursday the 9th? I'm so ready to get with my gals! Mal~Where are you? You must be keeping busy! Hows your son? Hows that little puppy of yours? Keeping you busy with the "accidents"? Being cute and little is what keeps them alive during the housebreaking period. Haha! Shesha~congrats on the surgery and the good restriction! That's pretty neat that you didn't have to be put out completely. That makes recovery 100% easier. Drewslou~How's the knee doing now that your back in action? Are you going to try and meet with us this month? :grouphug: Lap Dancer~ Hows the fill going? Is your scale moving for you? How's the new son-in-law thing going? Have a great day everyone! :scales::) -

Shesha~glad your home and safe. Sounds like things went well. Let us know when your up to it how you feel! Again, glad you were able to get that taken care of. Mal~how's your son? Better I hope. How's things going with the new puppy? I finished that book. Very interesting stuff! Dynamomini~glad your keeping busy with the "Ladies". Sorry your water was out. Stuff like that makes me nuts. What day did we decide to gather in August? I forgot. I need to get it on my Hubby's calendar. Lap Dancer~how are you doing and how is your fill? MarcyinAk~how are you healing? Well, I hope! Are you feeling any restriction? Lots of people do without a fill. Nicnaknut~ Welcome! Well, my brother from California is here. And you know what? I forgot that he really is my "eating buddy". This has been a terrible week and a half. Thank goodness I can't eat as much as I used to or I'd be up 10lb. (only up a couple) Gotta get my mind set back! Have a great day, All! -

Welcome, ShelbieCallie! Dr. K doesn't require any pre-op tests or lab work. And everything is included in his price. The first three months of adjustments are free also. Are you planing to come back for fills and consultation? Some people do, some don't. If you aren't coming back, it's best to find someone close to you for followup care. After three months, adjustments are $15. Really. I believe, right before your surgery, they do some blood work and they take a urine test. (and I mean right before, while your in your cute little blue gown!) Here is a silly question...are you coming from California? Again, welcome to the board! -

I'll say a little prayer.:amen: Isn't cleaning up the puppy piddle fun? :dog: That's what I had to do for the last year. (Bichons are hard to house break!) DynamoMini~ Paint, girl! Paint! hee hee! Glad your staying busy. It keeps away the boredome munchies! Well, everyone, we have surprise visitors coming to stay with us tonight. My hubby's cousin, wife and kids will be coming through on their way to Yellowstone. So, that means I need to clean and clean! And make sure the spare room is in order and the sheets smell fresh and the towels in that bathroom are fresh, and, and, and...oh my! Hafta get busy! We're supposed to BBQ tonight and my hubby managed to invite a lot more than just the company for tonight, and that forecast...oh my. May be an indoor BBQ! Morning, All! I am pretty pleased with my fill so far! Foods go down, but if I don't chew well or eat much slower, there is a bit of discomfort. Just exactly what I need! I am amazed at how little it takes to make me full. I think my "head" is a little sad though cuz it wants to eat just a little more...hee hee! It looks like a few of us are getting to a good place! Dynamo, Mal, Me, Drewslou, Woo hoo for us! My brother and I are having a good time. Trying to catch up a little. We are so close and I haven't seen him in 5 months or so. He's just so much fun. He said he can really see the weight loss. Yay! Now if I can get him to get this band done with me! Maybe we can be with each other a little longer in this life. Speaking of ashes (mal's doggy) my other brother's ashes were spread on Thursday. My Sisterinlaw let me know they actually got it done this time. Every other time they have gone to do it, someone has had issues and isn't ready. My niece and nephew were both ready this time, along with my Mom and my sisterinlaw. It's only been almost 10 years. I didn't think that it would matter to me, gone is gone, but I do think that maybe I feel a little closure too. Hope this helps me with my emotional eating a little. The weather is so much cooler today...I'm so glad! It's a lovely brisk 71 in here today! Woo hoo! Have a great day all! -

Morning, Gals! Well, I was filled again yesterday, and it went very well. He found the port in like 2 seconds, no pain or anything. I got 1.5cc yesterday. So far, so good. If it stays like this, I think it may be perfect. I hope it stays like this! His office was packed. I think there were 4 other women there waiting for consultations. I tried cottage cheese last night when I got home, erring on the side of caution. Then my brother got into town last night and we had pizza. We always order one thin crust cuz I can eat it and my family likes it. I was able to eat it without pain, and I chewed a lot. I was full after one square. So far, so good! :whoo: Mal, congratulations on your new puppy! There's nothing sweeter than a little puppy licking you on the nose! My brother says that puppies have sweet puppy breath. My mom's dog was named Buster. What a great name! Send pictures! Marcy~glad your feeling okay and foods are going down. Don't know about the dizzyness...glad it went away! Have a great day! DynamoMini~ Glad to see your getting your bathroom stuff together. Exciting isn't it! And your working hard on your Ladies! Gotta see one of those. Trying to stay cool. It has been warm, and this house doesn't have AC, so I constantly fill my little coolers. It's a little effort (each one holds about 4 gals of water and goes through about a gallon every hour and a half and I have 3 of them. I look like the line up of people handing the bucket of water off to put the fire out!) But they manage to keep it no warmer than 78 in here. Hey, I noticed your ticker is moving!!!! Yeah for you!! You should feel so good about that! Hey, you know what!!!??? We're really doing it! :clap2: Shesha! You're port will be fixed in no time! That is so great for you! (Still wish there was time to get together...:think) Mal~How are you doing? Were you thinking of any particular breed for a new puppy? I used to believe in getting pets from the humane society or the pound, but up here there isn't anything but pitbulls. So I researched breeds and kennels. That's how I came to get my Miss Molly. Never had a purebread with papers before. Drews!! FLAKE, FLAKE, FLAKE!!!! LOL! :biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1: Marcy~ how are you doing? Is the soup going down okay? Well, guys, I get another fill today. I'm not really scared or anything, but for some reason there is a bit of apprehension. Do we try the swallow thing again or just go by amounts? Obviously 1.7cc is too much. Maybe like 1cc? Wonder what the Doc thinks? Have a great day! I'll keep you posted on this one! hee hee! -

I really feel for your loss~ pets are truly part of the family. Let me know if you need anything. Are the kids taking it okay? I would say go get a big bowl of ice cream and suck it down to feel better (my personal first choice to feel better) but I guess we aren't supposed to do that any more. Hang in there, okay? Marcy! Hi, glad your home safe. That swelling will go on for a few weeks. When you wake up in the morning, it will be just fine. By the end of the day, "poof!" Big "4 month" belly! Mine quit doing that after about a month. Looser clothes in the evening really help with that. If I left on clothes that don't give as well (jeans), it was almost painful. Plus, I had times that I hadn't used my pain meds for almost 5 days, then out of no where, I had a very painful day and had to use the meds. It was strange, but I think most of us had that. So don't get discouraged by that. I would sit there and think, "crap, I've been fine for a week, why do I hurt like this?" I'd just suck it up and take a dose of the meds. (I hate pain meds) Maybe as we feel better (women seem to always have so much to do...with the house, kids, work, etc) we do more than we should because the work piles up for us, and the next day we pay for it. You know what else, Marcy? Sometimes when I get a fill, my belly does the poofy thing for a few days. I think some of us are more sensative than others. Thank you for the "Stunning" compliment. You all are too kind! {warm fuzzy feeling inside!} Have a great day! Marcy~don't over-do it! (easier said than done, huh!) -

The roads were mostly dry and the construction south of Castle Rock didn't go down to one lane, so I cruised right on home. Can't wait until next month! Well, gotta go down to my puter in the basement and compress the pics and get them posted! Have a great day, All! -

Hurray, VABandster! How great is that that you can lose weight on vacation! Don't you think you should go on a bunch more and get super thin?! Sounds like a plan! -

Good morning, All! Wow, had a lot to read this morning. My hubby and I went to bed at 9:30 last night to catch up on some missed sleep. I feel just fine and normal today. I haven't tried to eat anything yet, but everything else feels just like always. Yeah! I took antiacids yesterday and they really seemed to do the trick. Gotta make an appointment for next week today. Let's start filling her up! I ate some last night, (had only been a day and a half) and things were still a little scratchy and sore and definately swollen. Couldn't do very much, but was food! I guess the upside to this is, I've pretty much done the very worst there is, so all fears are gone! Been there, done that! The deal with the leak though...the day before when he calibrated I was at 2.1 cc. When he pulled everything out yesterday there was 1.7cc. He said with that info he didn't think there was a leak. He said they usually leak faster than that. And I guess with the kind of pressure that was on it yesterday, even a small hole would leak pretty quickly. I dunno. Shouldn't they be the same? None of the fluids in this sucker have matched up. Drews~you've been there done that. What do you think? How did you guys figure it out? Now that's it empty again and starting over, lets see if things match. I imagine that he will calibrate every time now to see what is going on. Marcy~ How are you feeling? Good I hope. It's better and better everyday! JenniferNAz~ Our thoughts are with you today. Here's to a perfect outcome!:gluck:
