    Stand Still & No Loss

I alternate between Isopure zero (40g Protein in 20oz bottle) and making the chocolate premiere Protein shake (16oz of skim milk & 1 scoop of protein powder). You can get isopure zero at Vitamin shoppe or GNC and premiere protein whey powder protein is at Walmart or Sam's club.

    New To The Family

And just remember if your drinking protein shakes those have water & count towards your 64oz of fluid. I drink a couple of 20oz isopure zeros which is 40oz right there. So then I need to get 24oz more for the day. Anything over that is bonus.
  3. I was sleeved on 6/27 & had horrible n/v (mainly dry heaves cos of nothing to eat since night before). I also had horrible withdraw from not being able to take my antidepressant for 33 hours. Was not fun. After my leak test, they said I couldn't go home unless I was walking & drinking. So I started doing both cos I did not sleep well in the hospital at all. I got to go home on 6-28 and have been slowly increasing my intake. First day was tough. Took all day to drink 28oz of isopure while also sipping water. My doc said to take the multivitamin & B12 w/folic acid as soon as I got home & started having my liquid proteins. They did say wait 2 weeks to start with the calcium citrate. I also have the super glue on my stitches and they're slowly starting to come off. I'm leaving them alone & letting them do their own thing. I do have 2 big nasty bruises on a couple of them & a giant bruise on my upper left arm. The stomach ones are prolly from blood thinners and the arm one is prolly from them lifting me onto and off OR table. I passed out on the way to OR lol
  4. So glad for you! I'm only 5 days post-op but I don't regret it one bit. My dad was worried to death cos of my auntie's problems last year with her sleeve but he's chilled out now that I'm doing fine. Day of surgery was horrible cos of n/v. I told him I didn't take this lightly. I had been thinking about WLS for over a year before I decided to actually do something about it. Keep us updated on how you're doing!
  5. I forgot to mention before that I live in Arlington. Go Rangers! lol I'm post-op day 5 and I woke up today and was like wow I feel even better today. I know the last 4 days my body totally needed all that sleep cos I feel totally different today. Only 3 more days and I can start adding in whole liquids . Looking forward to some yummy lump less soups even though it's a million degrees here

    Pain Meds

I would definitely discuss that with your surgeon before surgery. Plus you should have a pain management person at the hospital, or at least I did. She was the PA for the overnight internist who gave me meds for high BP & anti nausea patch. The PA talked to me 3-4 times before discharge about how my pain levels were & how controlled they were, etc. that's when they decided they send me with liquid lortab since I was on IV dilaudid while in hospital. If you let your surgeon know beforehand about what has & hasnt worked for your FM pain in the past, they'll should take that in consideration & try to get the best pain med that will hopefully work for.

    How Do You Feel?

I'm 4 days post op & still have the bruised feeling. It's worse on the left side. I'm a side sleeper with a body pillow. The day of my surgery after they got me to my room, I only had one pillow & had to use a blanket like my body pillow. I mainly can lay on my right side and I think was cos the pain ball with drain on the left side was in the way. I try hard not to laugh right now cos it hurts when I do like after being really sick & vomiting/dry heaving for a long period of time. Of course I was dry heaving all day after my surgery on 6/27. Zofran helped & dilaudid made me go to sleep but as soon as it started to wear off several hours later I would wake up dry heaving. Had to wait until 8:30a on 6/28 for barium upper GI toake sure no leaks. Nothing to "eat" for 33 hours prolly contributed to that. I have noticed that even though I am still sore if I get up & walk around my house (can't go outside cos it's like 110 here o_O) the tenderness seems to be working itself out. Kinda like when you fatigue your muscles lifting weight. Every day just gets better though.
  8. I prolly saw you there that morning. I also had my surgery on 6/27 @ Forest Park and had to be there at 5:30am. Great facility. My Aetna policy has an exclusion for all bariatic surgeries but once I get past this clear liquid diet I will be fine & it was worth every penny.

    Pain Meds

I was given lortab in liquid form, basically hydrocodone. I only took it 1st night home & I've mainly had tenderness but no pain like right after surgery.
  10. I was self pay. My doc & the hospital take Care Credit. The doc was $3900 & the hospital which included OR, anasthesiologist was $7000. Luckily I was approved for $11k on care credit and that covered everything for my surgery. If my insurance would cover VGS, I would much rather have paid like a $3000 or so co-pay. But ultimately to me it was worth every penny.

    No On Would Have Thought...

Congrats! That's awesome. And I know how you felt. I'm around 5'8" 5'9" & people never believed how much I weighed either. Like you said prolly the height tricks them. Sorry hubby turned out to be a jerk but it sounds like you're better off without him. I've been lucky & my hubby is supportive & needs to only lose like 10-20 pounds. He said he better get to working out so we can be healthy & active together. Keep up the dream & share more pics when you can!!! We're all rooting for each other.

    Bmi

Before my surgery, my bmi was 38. I'm 5'8" and was 245# before starting Pre-op diet. I have no co-morbidities but diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure & cholesterol all run in my family. I'd been lucky so far but always struggled with my weight. My insurance doesn't cover any bariatic surgeries, even lap band, so I was self pay.

    Just Had Surgery 6/27

I had my surgery the same day as you too. I got to go home on 6/28. On the 29th it took me all day to drink 28oz of protein drink & I was 5g short of min protein my doc wants me to get each day. But every day has gotten better drinking wise. Yesterday I was able to drink 40oz which got more than min protein recommended. I also make hot herbal tea & have a glass of ice water and alternate between the 3 drinks. I'm 33 YO and had a hard time with recovery at the hospital initially due to nausea. Now that I've gotten nausea/dry heaves under control & can drink my liquids better, I need to get more walking in.

    Its Your Period Dummy!

I was on low estrogen birth control pills & even starting the new pack the week before surgery, I still got my period 3 days post-op. of course my surgeon told me not to start BC pills again for 6 weeks. So I guess we'll see how that screws with my cycle plus all the changes going on in the body too. It was funny cos before discharge & telling me no on BC pills to use other forms of protection, all I could think was "who is even thinking of sex. I feel like sh*t right now. " lol farthest thing from mind but I read on another board some lady got prego 2 weeks after her surgery so they gotta bring it up.

Time Of The Month During Your Surgery?

I feel a little bit better after reading this thread. I had my regular period last week. Had my surgery on Wednesday 6/27. Still recuperating here at home but way better than the day of surgery & day after. But I got my period again today. Luckily not too heavy but annoying none the less. Hopefully as my body gets used to the changes my cycle will go back to normal.
  16. I'm also on a anti-depressant, Effexor 100mg twice a day. I went 33 hours without it from 6/25 to 6/27. It can cause horrible side effects from withdrawal.I didn't have feelings of sadness or any of the feelings you're going through but I was having high blood pressure which I never had before, horrible freezing chills then burning up & the worst dry heaves in my life. In fact I felt like I did in the past when drank to much while out partying in college & ended up barfing. Except this time there was nothing to throw up. I kept counting down the hours when the nurse could give me IV zofran & dilaudid for nausea & pain. Those helped me sleep. Once you start talking in liquids & can take your anti-depressant again you should start feeling better. I'm 3 days post op & back on my Effexor & the s/e have subsided. If they don't, you should really call your doctor & let them know of the problems you're experiencing. I've had problems in the past with depression, panic attacks & paranoia (mainly due to my OCD causing my brain to think up all kinds of scenarios). It's not fun. I hope things start getting better for you soon.
  17. My hubbie was very supportive but scared for me at the same time. His grandmother died from stomach cancer so he kept asking my doc about what will happen in 50 years when I'm in my 80s. Of course my doc said she'll still be eating her smaller portions. My hubbie didn't tell a bunch of people cos I told him it wasn't everyone's business. Basically only his dad, my parents & a few select friends have been told. My dad actually had more of a problem cos my auntie had so many problems after hers (but she had more co-morbidities than me which I'm trying to avoid). But my dad said he wouldn't tell anyone & he hasn't. In fact this last Tuesday, day before my surgery my dad was still trying to talk me out of it. My hubbie said how you gonna explain all your weight loss & I told him I'll just say medically supervised diet & exercise which technically it is. I'm sorry to hear your husband is being unsupportive of your wishes & feelings. Hang in there & hopefully things will get better.

    H Pylori

That's a good thing cos my auntie had her sleeve done last year & I don't think they checked all that before her surgery. She couldn't drink anything for like 3 months. She was re-hospitalized 2 or 3 times for dehydration. Once she got over the rough patch she's been doing better.
