I can remember being very active in high school. I ran track, was a varsity cheerleader, played softball and volleyball and pretty much any other activity I could fit in my busy schedule. Weighing in at 115lbs, I hated being skinny and prayed to gain some weight. Four children and almost twenty years later, I find that my weight has skyrocketed out of control and obesity has consumed my life. I remember back in 2003 I had to undergo an emergency appendectomy, the surgeon at the local hospital was out of town so they had to call in another surgeon to perform the operation. When he made rounds the next day, he introduced himself and told me that he routinely performed weight loss surgeries. He then proceded to give me his business card and advised me to call him if I ever needed him. At that moment, I thought to myself, he must think I'm fat! I believe it was then that I took a good hard honest look at myself and realized that my weight was indeed creeping up there. Weighing in at about 175lbs on this 5"1 frame, I instantly knew why I was so exhausted with simple tasks and found it so uncomfortable to fit in average size seats. Now years later, I am finally ready to make a change. With the change of 2012, I intend to leave obesity behind and face 2013 with a new lease on life!
