Exactly the same for me in 2012! I had approval 24 hours after my doc submitted the file! I remember how nerve wracking and edgy I felt. I really don't trust people. Haha!

Nothin but love and deep respect. You put a lot of consistent, thoughtful effort into this community and that alone just means a great deal.

I am cleared by my surgeon to take NSAIDs. I have taken them on and off with no problems. Not anymore, though. This likely occurred because I have been on high doses since 12/14 for a knee injury. Even though they started me on Prilosec to try and prevent it. So, not specific to the sleeve because they way the surgeons are explaining it, anyone on these high doses over long period of time runs the risk of ulcer, or in my case, stomach lesions. Does this help?
-
Soooo tired. Initial results are erosive gastritis caused by NSAID. My surgeon also did a biopsy and that takes 2 weeks. There has been some question if I have celiacs. Treatment is like they treat an ulcer. So stay on the 2 Acid blockers and prescription sucralafate for 2 months. Follow up in 2 weeks. I'm so grateful it's not more sever or requiring surgery. I'm also immensely grateful for this community because really only you can empathize.

My symptoms are unchanged for 10 days but improved some with the Prilosec and Zantac. Bleck. I hope whatever is going on is obvious on the EGD, easily resolved and that I don't have to wait for biopsy results. ???? Thanks for following along!

Ultrasound is negative. On to EGD tomorrow. ????

Blood test results no H. Pilori. So that's a relief.

Has anyone been denied for depression or other mental illness?
CBT replied to kaylababy1229's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depression is 10 times higher in the obese population than in the general population. Having a mental illness does not prevent you from having WLS. Being actively suicidal or psychotic or having a significant personality disorder or an active or recent eating disorder these are things that would slow your approval down while things are review and treatment is evaluated. It's not a pass/fail. It's getting the help to people who need it because the other side of surgery can really shake the foundation of your identity. -
Severe pain is not normal. Call your doctor.

Psych Eval Clearance is Making Me Crazy
CBT replied to melyssafaye's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would also call my surgeon's office and see what s/he would recommend. S/he is also invested in your success. State requirements are different but this process you are going through is weird. We just go do mini psychological evaluation: have testing and clinical interview. About a total of 4 hours in one day. -

How did you deal with changes to your hair during regrowth
CBT replied to Djmohr's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I too am naturally curly and prone to frizz. I use Aveda Be Curly styling cream on damp hair. I have used coconut oil, too. My texture and thickness continued to change for a couple of years before coming back to my original hair. An awesome stylist got me through with cuts and product recommendations. Good luck! -
Physically preparing for plastic surgery
CBT replied to nursejenny07's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'd prioritize resistance training for several reasons. Muscle will help you when you're weak and have to move around. I used my legs and arms a lot to transfer myself. Ask the PS at your consult. I'm curious on the doc's thoughts. Also the more abdominal muscle mass you have the more the surgeon has to work with, to anchor to. KWIM? I had hernia repair with great results. My friend has same repair with poor results and lots of pain. Her surgeon explained she had very little muscle and it comprises the surgery. The estrogen from fat also has compromised our tissues. Although that does repair over time. -
Congratulations on you successful weight loss and upcoming plastics!!!! You've had some great feedback here. Def 6 weeks and 8 would be really good. It's a major recovery. I had LBL and augmentation two years ago. I am not a wuss and its a major, long recovery. I wrote about it on this site. There are very specific timelines for certain things healing and I wrote about some of that. Like i thinks it's 12 weeks for the lymphatic channels to reestablish. I think it was 9 weeks before I could do any abdominal work so that's thoughtful about you catching a falling patient. My surgeon explained that using the core too early causes the layers to separate and then the final result isn't as tight. So yea, shoot for the moon in your time off for recovery.

Thanks for the well wishes. The ultrasound was a breeze. Waiting for results is nerve wracking. I swear with technology I've become so impatient. I been drinking protein drinks since I got done. They are my go to right now. I have water nausea but I can drink flavored water. Like Mio flavored. So that and protein drinks.

Veteran Sleevers please chime in.
CBT replied to Biloxigirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you hungry on 850 calories? Plateau will happen if you're not getting enough calories. But/and, this is a delicate balance. You may only need 50 calories to get things moving. This still has a lot to do with how much you still are going to lose before goal. My surgeon is awesome in that we can due the REE annually and then I know exactly how many calories my body requires to either lose weight or maintain. But, it's still okay to adjust 50-100 at a time for 4-6 weeks and see what happens. The real question is, though, my original question. Because if you are hungry, then eat. We aren't dieting anymore (said that for myself as much as for you.) -
Veteran Sleevers please chime in.
CBT replied to Biloxigirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's formula is 0.3 X current body weight = minimum grams of protein needed. Then there is a range based on activity level and REE, etc. So if you really, really want to know your range based on REE, you want to call your surgeon. -
Ultrasound this afternoon. It makes me giggle when the schedulers are shocked that I can fast for 6-8 hours in the day time, "most people want first thing in the morning so they can fast overnight." And then several times of reassurance, "are you sure you can drink or eat nothing?" The power of da sleeve.

It didn't occur to me that it could be my gallbladder because I don't have that doubled over pain that worsens when I eat and drives ppl to the ED. but I have learned that is one type of several types of GB disease ....always learning. My pain actually improves when my sleeve is full.

are you still getting bloodwork 3 plus years post op?
CBT replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
CGJ I've had some variation in my glucose. Mine was 92 the summer of 2014. This Nov it is back down to 80. The summer of 2014 was highly stressful. That is the only difference I can come up with. I eat and work out the same. Cholesterol is fine. But it seems I've read others talk about having some uptick in cholesterol. I wonder if some of it is artifact of aging/genetics and not diet/lifestyle. I'm so glad your still here and asking these questions. I like to stop in an compare notes. -
