    It works

Sometimes I let myself get too hungry and what I really want is a cheeseburger. This is totally trigger. I'm ravenous and get a cheeseburger. I usually take half the bun off. I have my mins set that I'm going to eat this burger. Then the restriction kicks in usually with discomfort for eating too fast. I hate it. I'm mad because the head hunger is powerful and I want to eat the whole damn burger. There are other irrational thoughts like: I know what I'm choosing right now. I know how to control this. Still the tool holds and I've eaten half a burger. I find the gratitude and remember that I can not let myself get this hungry. 18 months out and this has happened maybe 3 times. It's just really powerful because I don't have the choice to stuff my gob when I feel out of control. I love my sleeve.

That doesn't sound weird. That sounds skillful because you're aware. In many ways that is mindful eating. The tv thing is all that mindless eating people get into night after night. I think what you're describing is different! I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. I'm mobile 99% of the time and the notifications are wonky.

What time of day do you exercise and why ?

It really depends on what I'm doing and what my goals are. Usually I go to dance/martial arts in the morning, hot yoga at night, weight train whenever I can on the days I have set aside. I prefer to train hard in the morning/mid-morning. That's when I have the most control over my day and my commitment. Sometimes I go to the club in the middle of the day because there's a great Pilates/yoga class and it works on my schedule. I have a ready gym bag in my car I think it's important to say that I have always been active. I like to "exercise". It's fundamental to my mind and body. I think what I've learned is that when I really LOVE what I'm doing, I put my wellness first and make it fit. I would totally NOT do this to walk on a treadmill. Lol. Sorry. It's not such a straight forward answer.
  5. I was sleeved July 2012. Forty pounds ago I past the surgeon's goal. I just said my body will decide. I follow the rules. I eat clean. I train or dance 6 days a week. Well, I just didn't stop losing weight. I feel I've probably been "at goal" for a few months but I still lose at least 2 pounds a month. The plastic surgeon (who works frequently with my bariatric surgeon) told me to stop, increase my calories and I'd be thrilled with my results. I just really have very little fat on my body. (She showing me as she's manipulating my hanging skin.) So I asked her about "how long" she wants me to be stable. She said it's not about how long before I can have surgery, it's about eating more and not losing anymore. Okay. I get it. It's not easy but I will lose a minimum of 5 pounds of skin/fat in surgery and my BMR will triple in recovery!!! Spin will lose weight, too. To triple my BMR results in a really high calorie need. Higher than I can imagine and I eat 1800 calories now. This is why consults are so important. They can really look at YOU and what you need to do.

    Post op diet stages

I'm a rule follower. Lol. It took me a while to get to fruit because of restriction. I really had to work to get Protein and veg. I also workout vigorously so I need a complex carb in the morning before a workout. This was true at 8 weeks. I did not really eat and enjoy salad until Spring. I could eat it at 6 months (January). I just had a hard time with raw veggies. I could even eat nuts before raw veg. Also, I couldn't eat much salad and it seemed a lot of work to only eat 1/4 cup and left a lot of waste. I made smoothies with berries, pineapple, peaches, etc straight away. I ate thin sliced apple with Peanut Butter probably as early as 8 weeks. So I only ate/eat fruit when it's paired with a protein. Protein, protein, protein! Meat really, really needs to be moist. That's the key. Anything greasy will likely cause you problems. So stay away from fatty meat.

    I need so much help!

I did not see this before. Sorry. Endocrinologist are MDs who address the endocrine system: metabolic disorders, diabetes, thyroid problems are some common disease areas. They diagnose and treat. A lot of what others are talking about here. I still see mine because early in rapid weight loss my body really liked to eat muscle over fat. I was cold all the time, etc. He sorted out my BMR and helped me protect my lean muscle. I'm really grateful for him. I never stalled and I think it's because I had him helping me.

    Post op diet stages

At 6 weeks I could advance my diet as tolerated. That means right off the plate. I stayed pretty soft. Chewed stuff to mashed potato consistency. I ate lentils. I preferred savory to sweet. I ate a lot of mashed beans. You can thin anything with chicken stock. Lol. Some things I just couldn't eat for 6 months. It's a lot of trial and error you build in around your mainstays. I ate cottage cheese with salsa. Beans. Yogurt. Moist meat. Cook your meat in broth/sauce. Ground meat and raw veggies were hard to digest until 6 months. HTH. If you're hungry, eat! Just stop eating when you first notice it at your breastbone. This is truly your very personal connection to the journey.
  10. Me too. Strained yogurt was considered a liquid.
  11. Can I ask what happen with anesthetic? There are a lot of choices about anesthesia. Another food reason to get a consult so you'll know how the team would approach your reaction/issue. I have a close friend that's had three knee replacements (one failed). She was awake and under light sedation because she can't have general. They had to do one procedure at a time. She listened to music. Watched movies. Chatted with the team. Posted on Facebook. Crazy!!! They helped her figure out when she's want to use headphones. Lol. Problems are just solutions waiting to happen!

How hard did you work out after?

I was really active before surgery. I was also afraid of blood clots. I am a summer sleever, so two days post-op I walked 15minutes. Every two-three days I added 10 minutes. At 2 weeks I started swimming, leisurely (I was cleared but I still used waterproof band aids over incisions.) I did some gardening and just moved my body. Three weeks out I went for a 90minute hike. I started dancing again at 3 weeks. Only a half hour (versus 60) and at "level one". So if people are turning with arms flying and feet leaving the floor (level 3), I would be side stepping and raising my arms in step. The first day was really hard. I was pushing; still, dancing in a community is my soul food. The next week, week 4 I was released to lift. I started back on machines (which I do not like) but I wanted the structure you don't have when your weak and using free weights. Lol. I did that for week. By six weeks I was training 5 days a week 45-60 minutes. At 8 weeks I was unlimited. I went back through MFP. Kinda fun to review it.

Are you working with an endocrinologist who treats WLS patients?

    I need so much help!

This just sounds awful! So sorry. You're a warrior, though! Hove hung in. You're here. Posting. Never give up!!! So when I had my initial consult with my bariatric surgeon she said the sleeve is very much a middle of the road procedure, "if you're not where you want to be or at the goal I've set for you, you can always revise to a band or RNY." So there ya go. You have surgery options. I got the sleeve so I would never diet again and I don't. I obviously wasn't ever very good at it. Lol. I don't how to advise you on that....keep in touch!

    amino acid supplements for workouts?

I can say that I have a lot of muscle. I do not know how much of that is down to L-Carnatine and DHEA. I think it's a combination of the effort to eat, supplement, and drink a lot of fluid. Before I saw the endocrinologist I was cold all the time and I was losing way too much muscle over fat. I really have very little fat now and a lot of muscle. I am warmer. So I don't know what to put it down to.

Anyone Else Go Offtrack & Gain?

All such great support. Self correction is part of making changes permanent. Whenever you self correct, that's the right time. Coming here is a step in making that u-turn. If I think I'm not living for wellness, I go back to basics: community support, eating plan, and move my body in ways that make me happy and challenge me and tracking. Clear the stinkin thinkin of shoulding on yourself. Heehee. Instead of thinking about what you should do, think about what you'd like to do/ want to do. Very powerful shift. Also, getting some medical support might help. Go see your primary doc for a physical and some labs. You get to decide where to put the effort!
  23. He surgeon said she will have to put the implant under my muscle as she doesn't have enough skin and fat to work with. I wonder how under the muscle feels opposed to skin and what the healing difference is? She said I will feel my implants and there is no way around that.
