I know that feeling. It is still very easy to slip back into old habits.... big bites, and two fast. My hubs told me last night to SLOW DOWN. So even though we have been successful the journey continues!

Great blog AJ, I am right there with you, it is so easy to slip back into old habits once you reach goal. You can get comfortable with the way you eat, what you eat and how you eat. I have episodes like this off and on and they are usually around a time when I do not take the time to eat my meal like I am suppose to. Example, today, I had a coffee from starbucks, no breakfast, no morning snack, finally got lunch around noon, (I had been up since 5am and this was my first bite of solid food) I got some salmon, a sweet potato and some grilled veggies. Two bites into the meal, I started to feel that feeling in the back of my thoart, tight and difficult to swallow. I knew I wasn't full so I had to lay down my fork and set back in my chair and take a break. Did I fail to mention I was on a conference call, So I was not really paying attention to my meal at all. I was able to eat about half of the meal and finally gave up and threw it away. I did manage to eat a tablespoon of peanut butter and a small banana this afternoon, than I ate some almonds. So yes band basics should never be far from our thoughts and we should always follow the rules no matter how long we have been banded. Old habits are always there and just waiting to come to the surface. Like I always say, that little fat girl is just sitting inside me waiting for me to screw up and I need to work daily to keep her in check. I think I broke lots of rules today. Thanks for sharing.

Great to hear nothing serious. I always say call the doctor when you are in doubt. My husband says I eat too fast all the time. For me, it's slow.

It's all about listening to your band. if I hadn't stopped when I got the soft stop warning, well it would of been a lot worse. & I respect her and will do liquids for the evening. I'll be back on track tomorrow. Rose will be blooming!

Thanks for sharing.. I think that would be one of my hardest things to grasps once I am at restriction or the spot I should be at. I eat when watching t.v.. on the comp.. etc. need to pay attention more! I don't want to go through that.

Thanks for this post, it is nice to know that even the successful banders stuggle and aren't perfect 100% of the time.

AJtexas, that is awesome. what i can't wrap my mind around is HOW did you get wantpower? I am being banded on 12/18 and don't have to do preop diet but I am going to start on sunday anyways. How do you make that happen if you struggle with willpower/food as it is? (hence why I need the band)? Does the surgery do something to you to make it easier in the mind? I am so worried/confused about this. I have to give up so many addictions for this and i want to be successful so bad, but an example is diet coke. I am a carbonation/diet coke addict. Does that craving go away a little when you are banded? Anyways you are awesome for posting this!

Wonderful!!!!!!!! I live in MA and was told that if you get rashes and have problems, insurance pays for tummy tucks when the doctor recommends them. Maybe ask, it can't hurt.
Good luck with your new life.

I agree that no one, unless they have the proper credentials, should be giving medical advice to others on this forum, or any other venue. We all have been on the "learning curve" at some point on our journey to become a healthier individual, however there is a difference between general advice and questions which a qualified professional needs to answer.
I'm unclear as to which individuals you are referring to that "bash" others...I don't condone that. However if you have been on this forum for some time and read some of the posts it does make me wonder if the poster has had any pre-op education. Sometimes when people ask for advice, if you respond in an honest way they get offended. If you don't want an answer, then don't ask the question. I don't know of anyone I have encountered on this site that has malicious intent to be negative towards others.
I am a licensed therapist and a certified addictions professional. I understand that there are immense differences between instructions a surgeon would give their patients and I respect that. I encourage posters to follow the instructions they have been given by their medical team, and if they don't understand them, ask their team of medical professionals for clarification...that's why you are paying them.
I understand that the motivation for success has to come from within the individual. I also understand that even a professional within the scope of their practice cannot "save" everyone. Sometimes it is appropriate to tell it like it is and not coddle an individual, but always in an appropriate way.
Ultimately we owe it to ourselves to be informed, to be motivated, and feel that we can reach out for support, as well as be successful on our journey.
It's really not necessary to have an attitude if your interpretation of a post is different from the intent in which it was offered. And because interpretation is a "subjective" measurement, it helps to clarify the intent before you "cop the attitude"...
Best wishes for your continued success...
