I'm New To The Lap Band Life.
♕ajtexas♕ replied to Amy ....'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! Congrats on the 5 lbs, that's awesome. This is a great site there is a lot of support here. Good luck on your journey. -
Good idea. I use small utensils. I also use the time between bites to cut up my food. My Dr told me to "play" with the food on my plate if I need help waiting between bites. I also use the timer on my phone, I set it for 1 minute. I still have to time myself even after doing this for 6 months.

Pandabear - thanks for the great cooking tips. Keep them coming!:-) -
Use a heating pad and walk walk walk! I would also ask your doctor for a recommendation for the gas. Good luck on Friday, let us know how you are doing.

Is Anyone Else Out There Struggling?
♕ajtexas♕ replied to SueinLincs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Another sugar addict here. I had to remove ALL sugary foods from my house, if I don't have them in the house i can't eat them. I usually get the sugar cravings at night watching TV..... I've been getting on my exercise bike for about 30 minutes (I keep my exercise bike in the living room), telling myself if I ride for 30 minutes I can get something to eat after. Course the only thing I want after is Water. :-) What I am getting at is the addiction is habit based (aka head hunger) so change the habit. This won't work every time, but its a start..... do something 3 times and it's a habit. Good luck and don't give up. You can do this! -
Help Im A Failure At Lap Band
♕ajtexas♕ replied to Wendy Peters's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Time to regroup. You have made the first step by reaching out for help. You can do this, we all support you. It sounds like you need to see your doctor to make sure the band is working correctly, then talk with a nutrition to get you refocused on the right foods to eat. Soon you will be back on your way. And we will be behind you the whole way. -
It is behind you now. As you said tomorrow back to business. Don't beat yourself up with the 'why did it happen?' crap. It did and it will probably happen again. It happens to everyone. Look at the good things in it. It only lasted 1 day (not several days). You recognized it and stopped yourself with a game plan for tomorrow. Be proud of that. I'm proud of you for recognizing your slip and admitting it. I don't know about you but before my new lifestyle I would constantly slip on diets but never admit it to myself let alone anyone else. You did great in my eyes.

I think it might be the desire to be noticed. I know I hid, didn't want people to notice me when I was big. Now that I'm down 50 lbs and you can clearly see that I've lost weight I crave the attention. I want ALL the guys to notice me, I feel attractive! My husband notices but he see me every day. It feels soooo good when another guy takes a 'second look', especially if my husbands sees him.....hehehe. I think its perfectly normal to feel that way. (just control your actions).

Your tummy will talk to you! Mine talks the most when I lay down. It's funny, I've gotten to where I'm use to it. It's almost comforting to me. A reminder that the band is there working away.

What Was The Final Straw To Help You Make Your Decision?
♕ajtexas♕ replied to ashiashley's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There are several reasons for me. To start are all the medical problems that kept surfacing, HBP, pre diabetic, etc. Then there was how I felt about me. I hated looking in the mirror and would hide from the camera. I truely hated myself. I had to change. So I got the band in February, I am down 50 lbs with 40 to go. I know this is the best decision I ever made. I love myself again and that is such a wonderful thing. The icing on the cake is I am no longer pre diabetic and down to only 1 HBP med (from 3), doctor predics that I won't need any meds very shortly. -

That is awesome! Congratulations!:-) -
Jen - I agree with you. I think we do obsess over food on both directions. My husband has pointed this out to me just like your story. Every evening I plan out my next day, every meal, snack and exercise that I will do. I get very nervous and anxious if my "plan" gets disrupted. But being that I've only been banded for 6 months I feel I am still learning and need this structure. I'm down 53lbs so I must be doing something right. Anyway, I think in time it will become second nature and hopefully we won't obsess so much. I say keep plugging alone, it sounds like you have great support with hubby (me too) and he'll keep you from going overboard.

These are great ideas. I'll definately try them. Thanks.

Thanks for the story. You are so right, we do have to change our lifestyle for LIFE. Congratulations on your success! I always love reading your posts. You are a great role model, thanks again. -
I was banded Feb 7th and just now feel I am in the zone. As for hunger, I still feel it. I have to ask myself, is this real or is it head hunger? My worst time is at night & it's usually head hunger when I'm watching TV. When this happens I've been getting on my exercise bike instead of heading to the kitchen...works most of the time. That's me though & everyone is different.
