To Band or Not to Band.........That is the question!
Rojasanoll replied to Bimmerboy76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your children! I discussed the decision with my dietitian and she agreed that the band was the best choice for me. I've had no regrets. The band can be taken out in a short time if required or needed. With all procedures, you must make wise choices in your eating habits. Some food groups will be better than others for all of us. You must choose what you want in a procedure with of course inputs from your doctor. Yes, all doctors are now including the latest propcedures but please check with your insurance to see if the cover all procedures. When I had my band installed Aug 6, 2012 my insurance group did not cover the sleeve. Best wishes and follow up on this forum and tell us what you've decided. -
Surgery Day Approaching..what to expect?
Rojasanoll replied to CHANged's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations. A new YOU will be surfacing. Stay on track and follow the doctor's format. -
Get back on track drinking lots of Protein shakes. Bloat yourself with lots of Water and SF Jello. Drink lots of Broths. Push your brain like you had started all over again. Break the old habits with the ones that were allowing you to lose weight. Best Wishes

Unfortunately you are stil healing and it will be some time before some can drink all 64 oz. Trying all day is the only way and don't try and sip any Water close to the time you drank a Protein drink. The Protein Drink gives you a temporary full feeling and nobody drinks much water. Try and do what the doctors want us all the do, after eating a meal (yes, Protein Drinks included) after 30-60 minutes depending on your doctor, sip the water. The pouch is new on the band and healing will take several weeks. I stayed on liquids close to 30 days after surgery to help the pouch heal better. Lots of Protein shakes, SF Jello, SF popsicles. Lots of broths with sprinkled dried onions to give it additional flavors. Best wishe and keep the faith.

A very nice story from you and thanks for sharing. Congratulations on taking steps to a new YOU. WE are all here for specific reasons, but WE are all in this together and sharing ideas on what works for us. I did the same thing, but I alot older than 40 years old, and my life is close to 2/3 shot. My health has always been good, rather lucky I guess except BP which is very much under control. Since the lapband and pre-diet in total, close to 80 pounds has been taken off. I feel better than I've ever felt. Probably since my High School years many moons ago. I stay the course with the band and I'm still working hard for another 70 pounds or so to lose. I will make it! Best wishes

Yes, months before being banded on Aug 6, I viewed Youtube videos prior to my surgery to have a different awareness on the lapband. Because my sister who works for Allergan (Goleta,Ca near Santa Barbara) checked out Allergan findings with lab studies on many thousands of people for me to read. All interesting to me to know how it works. There is still lots of mental involvement from us individually in choosing the right food types and how much to eat. I'm close to 80 pounds in total weight loss and I never did this with any diet. I lost 65 pounds on Atkin's diets and then after 18 months gained it all back and more. After a few fills, the band is now working for me. I have to watch grazing on certain foods. I have eliminated all sweets, chips, breads, sugars and sodas in my house. Since I'm single it's easy to do. Best wishes

Newbie to both the lap band and using a site like this...HELP

Welcome to the forum. You fit right in with the rest of us. Try and remember what got you to obesity in the first place. Wrong food types, eating late, eating too much and doing what you want lifestyles. Have so SF popsicles, SF jellos (I buy the jellos in different flavors ) ready to eat cups from Walmart. They are not very expensive and they curb my appetite. I have frozen crystal light flavors mixed with Water and made an ice cream out of it. Exercising will help somewhat, walking, treadmill if you have them. Playing on computer and keeping your mind occupied also helps. Try and think of your future goals and important your health is. Best wishes and keep on track. YOU can do it! -
I would back off and take an additional week for healing. And you should do the stages on food eating. Way too early to eat lots of pastas. Lots of carbs in pasta.

2 Weeks After Abdominoplasty And Love It!
Rojasanoll replied to Karen12345's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
You look great! Stay on track. -
The doctors usually connect the port to a muscle and everytime you bend over it pulls on the muscle. That's why it gives discomfort so long. It will go away.

2 days post op and sad
Rojasanoll replied to anniearrr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets lot's better. Hang in there. When you start and see your weight loss, the clothes sagging on you, can sit in booths in places you couldn't sit before, you'll love the new you. When the doctor starts removing certain medications because of your loss of weight and your back, legs and feet don't bother you anymore, you will know why you went through all of this. YOU already know diets alone don't work very well form past experiences. Keep on track! YOU can do it! Best wishes -
Speaking from the man side, Lot's of different pleasure positions available. And hopefully one will work for you while you are healing. Best wishes

I just google search, protein shakes sold in United Kingdom, and about 25 sites came up.

Atkin's diets are a ketosis form of diet. No starches, very little carbs (20 or less per day) and lots of meat. You try and eat meat every meal. Your body goes after fatty deposits for fuel after it can't find carb or simple sugars. Simple sugars are easy to find and usually funds the body as a quick fuel source, then the fat in our bodies. On Atkin's I lost 20 pounds per month and 65 pounds in 3 months. But once you stop or start eating more carbs, Ketosis dimishes quickly and starts burning the carbs and sugars it finds. Then you start to see no loss in weight and possibly gain weight. I did Atkin's several times in my life, you have to maintain lots of meat eating in all 3 meals for Atkins to work effectively. I was on it for a 18 month stretch and kept close to 70 pounds off during that timeframe. Best wishes

Nothing for me. You will need more than one fill to make a big difference. Most doctors on the first fill gradually put fluid in for the first time. You are still healing for quite a while and they go slow until you get to 2 or 3 fills from now.

If you were just banded there might be other things happening. It's too early to drop off blood pressure meds unless you've dropped 50 pounds or more. Check with your doctor and get checked out.

maybe you didnt chew the chicken enough. Chicken has too be chewed alot and you probably ate too fast as well.

I had my lap band tuesday. how do I shower?
Rojasanoll replied to zburdeshaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My shower has a shower wand and you can point it anywhere on your body and control the spray. Not an issue for me. Turn away from the spray. A bit of water wont hurt the incisions. Just don't touch them with bare fingers. Dont want them to get infected. -
1week post first fill
Rojasanoll replied to Hersheyskiss21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exercise of any kind will help recharge a possible low metabolism. Try some walking each day. And it takes time to lose weight and it doesn't stay everyday. Remember how long it took us to get out weight out of control. Best wishes -
This is asked often. There is a search engine above for you to type Protein Shakes. I use costco Premier Protein shakes. But there are many out there to try before surgery and then post-op. Ive used them since July 2012. I was banded on Aug. 6, 2012.

Rojasanoll replied to zburdeshaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seek doctor's opinion very soon. -
Call your doctor and check in.

You look 7-8 years younger! Way to go. Best wishes

I got inputs from my dietitian and my surgeon. They both agrred with me on the band. The surgeon would have made more money by doing other surgery but he was honest with me. I did the right thing. It has given me back some better health and is slowly taking away my blood pressure medicines. My surgery was in n out in a few hours. Best wishes in whatever you select.
