Drinking by meals ? Solid Versus Liquid -- Satiety Study in Well-Adjusted Lap-Band Patients
Rojasanoll replied to Alex Brecher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny, but I did a test in my home. I got a large styrofoam cup (12 ounces) from Walmart and cut a quarter size diameter hole in the bottom of this cup. I then fill it with my Protein shake to a 4 ounce mark marked on cup and what seem seconds the cup emptied. Next I tried oatmeal with some milk it lasted some seconds before it emptied. Then i mixed a cup of skim milk (0%) into the oatmeal and it lasted only a few seconds more. Then on the third test of oatmeal using same as second test, I chased the solution with 6 ounces of Water. I was truly amazed that pouring water alone on top of the oatmeal diluted it enough to quickly drian out the of the cup. So, my conclusion was liquids should not be taken with food because the feeling Full (filled) goes away quickly. I do know that we are not created equal and that bands can be different during surgery installation and that our stomachs are all shape differently where the band is stitched. This only shows a restriction of a quarter coin diameter and if the restriction is as small as a nickel diameter a longer Full is available. This experiement was done by me at home out of curiosity because I actually didn't believe liquids could dilute the food that quickly. I tried these test around Jan 2013. How do you know when you're full?
Rojasanoll replied to texasteacher2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are still healing and many days away for a full feeling due to food. Water should give you a full feeling right now. Let your stomach heal for a few weeks then start worrying about the full feeling. Follow your doctor's orders and ask questions on your first post op visit. Sip your water, NO big gulps (too much air) Best wishes -
It's truly all about You and the choices you make in selecting the proper foods. Congratulations on the weight loss and picking up the exercise. Try and count all your calories each day and pick an amount to stay at unless the doctor gave you a max amount. I'm at 1250-1260 calories each day and I also have a 14cc Allergan band with 6.5cc total saline solution. Best wishes

Its too soon and you're still healing. Mine waited until 6 weeks after my surgery. He wanted to make sure I was fully healed and eating good foods. You might get only 1cc so it won't be much. My doctor during surgery, prefilled 1.5cc then I found out after the fact. This way he knows the band is okay and working. Talk with the doctor.

How much protein post-op?
Rojasanoll replied to flrosie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im still between 60-70g of Protein. I find that its easier to not eat the wrong foods when you keep your protein higher. I guess i feel full longer and no "grazing" occurs. Best wishes and keep the faith. -
I had to wait 14 days or so, before my doctor allowed a short walk. I guess their is lots of healing going on with the body and bloating/swelling may occur. The healing process is slower when you dont eat so much as well. Best wishes

You should see results very soon. I was recently(March 12) tighten on my Allegan 14cc up to 6.5cc. It now seems that I have a "full" signal faster than ever before. My doctor has slowly been giving .5cc to 1.5cc each visit. Best wishes and stay the course. You will do great.

Please help me!!! Not losing please!!!
Rojasanoll replied to audmac's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You must count your calories if you don't step up the exercise. Try and increase your Protein count more each day, this will replace some of the carbs/calories you are eating. Use the stairways at malls. Park your car a bit farther when shopping. Go outside in the yard and do outside yardwork whenever possible. Do this for yourself! -

How much fluid can we hold
Rojasanoll replied to Roxie Deleon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
around 64 ounces of Water per day. this doesn't count Protein shakes or any nonfat milk. Crystal lights count as water intake. Best wishes and drink away. -

Just got stuck-was not fun

You will always remember the "stuck" feel from now on. Best wishes -
See your doctor.

6g of protein is too small if the doctor wants you at 60-70g of protein each day. Sounds like a hot day treat thrist quencher.
-
Sounds like you are close to the green zone. And thats a good size weight loss. Everytime I get a fill, I usually for 2-3 days or so, go to liquids until I get use to the band in a nw fill state. I'm sure your stomach feels tightness around it and the nerves send messages to our brain. Check with your doctor's office on your question. They are the experts that you are payng. Best wishes

First Consultation- excited!
Rojasanoll replied to fashionstylist's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to this great forum. here all your questions will be answered. What I did was ask people about the lapband and "their" doctor. I found in 90 miles or so, many lapband doctors. You have to feel comfortable with YOUR doctor. Get to your appointment 30 minutes early and explain to 1 or 2 patients in the lobby that this is your first time seeing this doctor. Ask them how they like the doctor. When I asked this I found 2-3 people who said nothing but excellent surgerical skills in the doctor. One gentleman has been on a 1 year program and lost 120 pounds and almost all his health issues are now gone. The other person said, the docotr gave me back my life! After hearing all of this, I wanted to meet the doctor and felt more at ease. You can usually type in google search the person and look at public records for doctors. Best wishes -
My first fill was highly over rated with fear and scary thoughts. It was painless and didn't appear to work. Remember, several fills maybe will give you the filled sensastion you need. I think I'm findly feeling some restriction on my 3rd fill. The build up of fliuid in the band allows the restriction to "assist" you. YOU still have to do the work and eat proper choices of food types. I tend to pick a day or two during the week that all I eat is 2 protein shakes for the first 2 meals and a big bowl of soup for dinner. It seems to work for me. Best wishes and keep the Faith.
