Ah! Penny! Why?!?!?(My 600 lb life)

Love the show. Penny was tough to watch because she never figured it out. She kept talking about her "progress" that was nonexistent. So sad for her little boy. I plan to remember all her excuses after my surgery (April 6) to inspire me to follow the rules.
  2. I've read a lot on the forum but haven't posted before. I got my approval letter from insurance and the procedures listed were sleeve gastrectomy, liver biopsy. I don't have a date yet because I still have to have a sleep study (his requirement, not insurance.) Did anybody else have a liver biopsy along with their surgery? I wasn't told that there was anything to be concerned about. I will try to call the surgeon tomorrow, but we are having a winter storm in Charlotte, and don't know how quickly they'll get back to me. Southerners don't know what to do when it snows! Thanks, Heidi
  3. The information session I went to, the surgeon mentioned that some people have trouble with some meats, especially well done. He mentioned chicken and bread as well, but he said everyone is different, but it seems to be if the meat is dry it can cause problems. From what I have seen on this forum, different doctors have different post op diets.
  4. Don't have a full list, but carbonated beverages are a DON'T. You are supposed to avoid drinking your calories. I have also heard that walking after the surgery helps with the gas/pain, etc. My surgery is not scheduled yet, so I am not speaking from experience. Heidi
  5. Not only - every loss counts. My mom reminded me today that losing as little as 5% of your body weight has health benefits. Think of it as 19.5% so far
  6. I am in the same place. I am not quite at my heaviest (only about 10 pounds away, though) and I have some friends who have been successful with the band. For a long time I wouldn't even consider it, because I thought I could lose the weight without the band. One of the local deejays is talking about her journey with gastric bypass, and it during one of the ads for her show, it just clicked with me that the lapband just might be the right tool for me. I have just started the process, had my initial appointment last week, but I feel good about it. I am also not very good at sticking with WW, Jenny Craig, etc. The band will be my insurance policy for portion control and sticking with the plan. Good luck! Heidi

    My First Post!

Welcome, I'm just starting the process too. I also have lost weight with WW and Jenny Craig, but I struggle with the follow through. I am hoping that the band will help keep me from wavering. I know how to eat healthy, but I tend to eat too much, and I think the band will be a good reminder not to. Good luck on your journey!
  8. I went for my initial appointment today and I am scared and excited. I have battled my weight my whole life it seems, though I wish that my high school self had realized that I was beautiful and not fat. I was never skinny like a lot of girls are in high school, but looking back at pictures I was active and healthy. I have done Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig and lost weight, but I have trouble with sticking with it and have always gained at least part of it back. I am hoping that lap band will be the tool to help me follow through. The scary part for me is that I am doing this alone. My family is down in FL, and while they will be supportive, no one will be able to come up and help me. My mom is battling cancer and they have their hands full with that. So I am counting on my great friends to help me out when I need it. I am ready to change for good.

    First Appointment Scheduled

Hi, I'm Heidi. I went to my first appointment yesterday, and it's a lot to take in. I have learned a lot here and I know a few people who have had good results with the band. Hoping to join them! Good luck with your appointment.

    Death Rates...

I am just starting the process, had my initial appointment today. But I work in healthcare, and my advice is to follow doctor's orders. Walk and move around as they recommend after surgery, because it reduces your risk of blood clots. Keep in mind that a lot of the preop tests that you have to go through are to make sure there isn't some underlying problem that will cause complications. Good luck!
