    Today Is The Day!

Good luck to you!! I will be at the hospital in an hour today.
  2. I have been so blessed. In January I had an appt with my PCP and requested this surgery. In February I began the six month program. there were comments from others about why they had to do this, but I loved every week of the classes. It was one Thursday a week to do something for me! I have five kids ( 3 are adults now and 14 yr old boy/girl twins). For the first time in 21 years of carrying this weight, I was doing something positive and rewarding and learning! And accountability and awareness to myself. I never missed a class, graduated at the end of July, and during the month of August I got every procedure that needed to be done. Insurance approved me to meet with my surgeon and his office team is wonderful! I have felt so happy since January starting this. Since i had everything done, they scheduled me in two weeks and the RN told me they have never scheduled that quickly ever and insurance again approved immediately. Things are buttoned up at work so I feel great leaving on medical leave. Today I'm doing some housework, getting out the Fall decorations, running a few errands, and happy for tomorrow. I hope everyone scheduled for surgery has a smooth transition and looking forward to learning more from each other.
  3. I am also scheduled for Wednesday 9/19/12. Good luck to the others on the same day! Feeling very calm and ready for surgery. Not sure how much weight i will have lost on the pre op diet until then. I have 14 yr old boy/ girl twins who are Freshman and their activities keep me so busy and working too, I haven't had much time to think about surgery.
  4. Congratulations to you! I wish I had done this years ago. This is my 50th birthday present to myself! My surgery is in 4 days. I've been very private about sharing this with anyone other than two friends. One is a support person who lives local to me. The other is a gf whose husband had this three years ago but they live over two hours away from me. I have three adult children, and 14 year old twins who just started high school so their lives are very busy. I just didnt want to tell them because of my concern that with them telling their father will have negative impact. He hasn't moved on since we ended the relationship ten years ago and he is bitter. I only told my work that I am having surgery (they don't know real reason) and I have kept this from my other friends as well. I guess I personally am more comfortable being private. It's up to your comfort level who you trust. Good luck with everything!

    All The Single Ladies...

I've wondered about dating too and how soon people have felt confident post op to start meeting new people? A few of my girlfriends have met men online but I haven't done this. I have been a single parent more years than as a coupled parent. My surgery is in 4 days and I probably will be so busy learning how to eat again for awhile that this topic won't come up. As to telling someone I'm dating that I had surgery, I personally am uncomfortable sharing until I was absolutely certain he meant something to me. I haven't told my family or kids, and only two friends are aware.
  6. I have not cheated but have only lost three lbs and I am on day 7. Doctor wants ten more lbs lost by surgery date 9/19. Told me I need to exercise...walk to lose it.

    1St Day Of Liquid Diet

Best of success to you! I totally understand how you feel cooking dinner for your family and being on your own diet. My surgery is September 19th as well in Sacramento. I start pre-op diet tomorrow. It fast tracked from insurance approval to 1st consult today to starting pre-op tomorrow. The doctor's office said it doesn't normally go this fast, but sometimes it will when everything is done, which I spent last month getting everything done. So they told me to jump in two feet and prepare myself asap with the information. I like getting the surgery done sooner rather than later. One thing that surprised me was that I came in requesting the sleeve, but my surgeon who is a huge fan of the sleeve discussed with me, and recommended gastric bypass. I trust him so am preparing for that. Hope everything works out for you!
  8. I nearly was scheduled today but is 9/6. Would you share with us what you learn today?
  9. Thank you for your great post! It really helped to prepare for what will happen soon. Hope you continue to post with your humor as you progress further! Congrats on your weight loss so far.
  10. Taking full body pictures, retake belly dance lessons again without being the biggest one in the class, zipline, inner thighs not touching each other, feeling hip bones, returning to original hour glass body shape, start to do things again that I avoided due to my weight. Date again.
  11. Getting the "big" kayak or the "Budweiser" horse for horseback riding. Wanting to wear junior fashions (dresses). Getting past the "weight prejudice " at work or shame of a frumpy mom for my kids. Cant wait to put a bikini on for the first time in 28 years.
  12. Phone call today. Approved. Consult on 9/6. Projected surgery date probably in last week of September.
  13. No date yet. Surgeon won't schedule one-on-one appt until surgical authorization request is on-line in their system. My PCP's medical asst is working on it from what I was told this morning. I hope you get fantastic news so you both can relax!

    Insurance Approval Question

I have Western Health Advantage grouping with Hills Physicians. Hills required me to take the six month class/weigh ins program, psch evaluation, endoscopy, colonoscopy, EKG, chest xray, mammogram and pap, labwork. I also attended mandatory seminar, support group meeting and nutrition class required by surgeon. Pending insurance approval now. My PCP sent surgical authorization request last week.
  15. I feel for you. Waiting also. I have Western Health Advantage grouping with Hills Physicians. Took their six month class/weigh ins, psych evaluation, all required procedures done, also attended mandatory support group meeting, nutrition class and seminar required by surgeon. Have pre-diabetes, BMI is 40. This is the hardest part waiting.

    Coming Out...

I'm pending insurance approval so if accepted, the only people who know is a couple (the husband had gastric) and one friend. I don't plan on telling my children, parents, brother or work associates.
