  1. I had a gastric bypass on 9/19/12. Everything has gone great. I don't have any information on the twisting - I'm sorry! The recovery is exactly the same as with the sleeve so this forum has been so helpful to me. I was released from the hospital after 2.5 days and was walking the day after the surgery in the hospital and was driving again five days later. I will be two weeks out tomorrow and so far (knock on wood) I have not experienced dumping issues or diet issues. I hope that everything will go smoothly for you!

    Nsv/stalling

I love how simple things are such great accomplishments! Congrats on your towel covering up all of you! That's awesome. I'm waiting to see if I will have a three week stall (I'm at 2 weeks tomorrow post op). If there is a stall, your post has relieved me. Thank you!
  3. I am 14 days out today and started a few days ago first on cottage cheese, jello, applesauce then a poached egg. Tonight will try tuna mixed with low fat mayo. I don't have any appetite so I use protein drinks to help in-between.
  4. Congratulations to you for reaching that stage of taking inventory of your wardrobe. I've lost 30 lbs since my pre-op diet. My clothes are loose but not at a point of smaller sizes yet. I can't wait for that. I can't wait to buy smaller clothing sizes - there are beautiful clothes in smaller sizes, and especially for the holidays!! It sounds like you are doing very well!!! Someone will benefit from your great taste, but your closet leaves room for new gorgeous clothes!
  5. That's wonderful! Congratulations! I love reading these positive and inspiring updates from everyone! Tomorrow's my first follow up two week appt post op and hoping to be released back to work next week. My surgery was 9/19. I can't wait to see where the progress will be at in three months too! You're an inspiration!
  6. My surgery was 9/19. I was allowed to drive 5 days later providing I wasn't using pain meds. I'm a single mom and had to get back to driving. I've been walking. Feel good. In constant touch with work through emails. My two week f/up appt is 10/4. I'm hoping to be released back to work as I feel good and for economic reasons. When did you return back to work?

    Anyone From The Bay Area

I'm originally from the Bay Area but moved ten years ago to Sacramento.
  8. I was craving both too. I'm 13 days out from surgery. The cottage cheese is great. I was wondering if it was too early to try avocados.
  9. Congratulations! Such an awesome experience! I can't wait for that too. Looking forward to taking inventory of my clothes and donating them. I've only just started since Im not quite two weeks post op but your post is inspirational for everyone!
  10. I have no hunger either. Surgery was 9/19, so that makes me what..12 days out? I love aromas of food when I drive by or walk by in the neighborhood. But it doesn't trigger hunger at all. I laugh a little bit because all I could eat if I wanted is a pencil eraser size bite anyway. I've been wondering really if it isn't just flavor I miss, rather rhan food.
  11. You look incredible! Such an inspiration to all of us! Congrats!
  12. I have lost 26 pounds since the pre-op diet. Seen face, arms, thighs, and finally some of the swelling in my stomach begin to go down. It's exciting. Where are the areas you have noticed?

Just How Much Is Everyone Exercising?

I have been wondering about this and was waiting until my first follow up appt following surgery on 10/4 to ask when I could start. I have both CA Family Fitness and Jazzercise memberships. The swimming does sound really good - will check into CFF to see if they offer those classes.
  14. Tomorrow will be one week out from my surgery 9/18. Since the pre-op diet, I have had an extreme heightened sense of smell. Everyone's breath is making me want to gag. I can't smell mine though. I can smell everything else too and it doesn't smell good. I realise this means I'm burning fat but is there a way to handle this? Thank you.

    Ketosis

    Oops. Surgery date was 9/19/12.
  16. Forgot to say that I had bowel movements four days out from surgery.
  17. I think you are doing great too. Tomorrow will be one week from my surgery. I was lying on my sides in the hospital (albeit painfully) but was really walking so only 1.5 days of gas. No nausea. I love water too. I drink the liquid protein and water. Had a tiny bit of jello. Got off pain meds (Lortab) four days out. I'm impatient because i know I'm doing good but the ketosis is driving my heightened sense of smell crazy. Everything/everyone smells bad to me. Ive lost about 20 lbs from pre-op diet to current.

    Post Op Diet

I was discharged today (9/19/12 surgery) and my post op diet was the same as the two week clear liquid pre-op diet. First week at home is the full liquid diet or Blender stage: Protein supplements, creamed Soups like chicken or tomato, cream of rice or cream of wheat hot Cereal, yogurts, applesauces, Jello, fat free pudding.
  19. Hi there, I am also able to swallow water from the liquid caps we are given, and my surgery was on 9/19 as well. I am more cautious sipping the diluted juices and broth. I hope your recovery goes smoothly. I was discharged from the hospital today and have no nausea and little gas pains and I was walking fairly soon after recovery - which might be the reason the gas pains are minor. Good luck!
  20. Hi everyone! I had gastric bypass yesterday and although i know this is support for sleeve (which I originally thought was going to happen), recovery is similar. In the pre surgery room, the nurse put a nausea patch on behind my ear. He said it would be good for three days. It must be working. No nausea, no gas pains, they took me off the IV and the morphine drip. I am taking liquid pain relief. The pain is mostly soreness inside but I really feel almost normal except when i get out of bed to walk in the hallway or to use the restroom. Everyone (staff, my surgeon and nurses) all have told me i am doing great and look great too. (Could be the make-up I put on this morning....LOL!). They helped give me a sponge bath and brush my teeth and use deodorant. I will be discharged sometime tomorrow. I am allowed to drink four oz cups of hot tea or diluted juice or broth. The ice chips have been heavenly. I had sent a flower basket yesterday on my surgery date to my surgeons team because they are so wonderful so they have stopped by or called to say thank you. I got one of the little carnation puppy dog design with Fall flowers and leaves. I was told the doctor's office loves it. I know everyone's bodies are different but I truly hope for a smooth surgery and recovery for you. Thanks!
  21. Hi there! My surgeon is a huge fan of the sleeve but my exercise level has been nonexistent. (Single mother with 14 yr old twins who have sports and they attend two different high schools. My son chose Jesuit HS which is an all boy Catholic school and his sister chose a co-ed catholic HS.) These two schools are far from where we live so I commute all the time leaving very little time for exercising. My surgeon wants me to lose over 100 lbs to reach 150/160% weight loss which he felt I wouldn't achieve with the sleeve and my current stuff lifestyle . I first weighed in at 239 and during the pre-op diet weighed in at 224.5 day of the surgery. He recommended bypass to reach goal weight of 135/140 in a year that he didnt feel i would achieve on the sleeve.
  22. Hi Lisa! I will be thinking of you. I have a compressed fracture in my L3 from a not so smooth landing skydiving in 2003. So i was concerned about lying on my back. I usually sleep on my side at home. It might be the morphine which helped me sleep here on my back, but i did ask the nurses if i could lie on my side. They said they want us moving as to much as we can. So I used the bed rails to help support and it did take considerable effort. The band /girdle they put on afterwards from surgery helps too. I started changing sleep positions and your insides are sore but I could tell the progress once I was able to move, such as using the restroom. I really had to go and that motivated me to move fairly early following surgery. I honestly do not feel pain now except if i get out of bed. I will be keeping you in my thoughts!!
  23. That is a wonderful idea! I am having surgery today and I ordered a flower basket to be delivered today to my surgeon's office to his team as a thank you.
