Start small. Its easy to feel overwhelmed! Do you use my fitness pal? That got me going! Just try logging your food for 1 day. Someone said focus on 1 meal at a time and if you slip up, get over it and move on. That is my problem- if I make 1 slip up then it's all over! I'm getting better at it tho. So take small steps. Good luck and best wishes!

Should I Get Lapband Removed And Do Rny Or Sleeve? Help!!
jrae replied to nwmsfootball79's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hold on buddy! No need to be mean! I think elcee was just trying to warn against having the band TOO tight! I didn't have a slip but my band was too tight and I was eating slider foods & not losing. It's easy to do when you are starving and the only thing that will stay down is hot creamy soup! You think you need a fill because you are always hungry but the oposite is true! I found out about sliders on this site. So even tho it offended you, elcee may have helped someone! Just as you have helped others! I appreciate you sharing your story and am sorry you were in such a bad accident. It's great the sleeve is working for you too. -
Like tmf said, it gets easier. Ive read it takes 12 days to establish a habit but not sure how long it takes to break a habit! I drink my milk or water or beverage before I eat. Then I'm not thirsty. I've seen on this site that some drs say to wait 30 minutes to eat after drinking but that doesn't make sense. Liquid should pass right thru. My dr says drink then wait 5 minutes then eat. It really makes it easier if you are hydrated to begin with. AND great idea not to have a glass at the table at home.

You may have some residual food caught or inflammation. I'd stick to liquids for a day or two and be careful. Throwing up is bad! You can get acid in the pouch and slips and all kinds of bad things.
-
Try logging in my fitnes pal. That helped me a lot! I didn't think I was taking in hardly any calories but what a shocker. A small shake at McDonald s is 500 calories! A margarita is 580! 2 margaritas at happy hour and I consumed a whole day of calories! It will open your eyes.

Wow you poor thing! So glad your issues resolved. Are you revising or staying on your own?
-
I've never heard caffeine causes erosion- its the carbonation. My dr has no problem with coffee.
-
I'm so sorry! I hate that! Try hot decaf tea- 1 tsp at a time. People think you lose weight when it's tight but I actually gained by drinking milkshakes & creamy soups!
-
I mean IN the fridge! Not on it! It has to be refrigerated!
-
Wow Mis73 do you know why she's only lost 20? My dr likes the sleeve over the band. They thought I may have a slip a few months ago so we talked about revision to the sleeve. Thank goodness there was no slip! A complete unfill and rest & I am back to normal.

When you reheat, do it in broth. I buy the boxed kind, which keeps on the fridge for 2 weeks.

My old dr said a light meal was fine after a fill BUT he never ever got my fills right. It was a constant struggle of too tight or too loose! After my 4th fill and stuck episode, the nurse said "why are you eating after fill? It's liquid only!". I showed her in the handbook & she was super bitchy about it! My new and awesome dr says liquids only for 48 hours, then mushies for 24. Trust me- follow that rule!
-
I agree! I got a lot of conflicting information. The only way I knew I needed an un-fill was from reading these posts!

I loved diet coke too but the carbonation can cause all sorts of problems. As with any of the "no no" foods you may be tempted to try them to test your band! Don't do it! You may get away with it at first but there will be long term repercussions. Happy to say I lost my taste for diet coke! I don't know how or why, it just tasted awful even tho I'd been drinking it daily for more than 20 years! So now I love diet snapple tea! I adore the lemon but can only find it in California, not in az where I live. The raspberry is great too. Also minute maid lite lemonade mixed with fresh plain brewed tea is good too. Water is key. I don't like tap so I have sparklettes delivered. As for not eating pasta- I didn't even try the first year but now I can actually eat wide pasta like lasagne. I just chew the daylight out of it. thin pasta like spaghetti makes me sicker than a dog. That said, I rarely eat pasta. At first hearing "don't eat this or that" made me feel rebellious and mournful. But trust me- it's really not bad & I don't miss a lot of it.

I love swimming. I go out every morning and swim for 30-45 minutes. I'm not Michael phelps- I just paddle back and worth while I listen to music. It's very enjoyable. I change the stroke every lap but I don't stop. I'm more if an indoor girl but I actually look forward to it. When it's cooler I walk the dog with my neighbor. The key is to find something you like doing. It doesnt make the weight fall off but i sure feel better doing it! It clears my head and gives me more energy. Does anyone have suggestions for good exercise CDs?

My experience with Simpson is that it is ALL about the $$$! It's hard to take him seriously when he sells Botox, juvaderm, etc from his practice. I also have a problem with his flashing "lap band sale" sign on his website. It's supposed to be a medical practice!

Dr. David Johnson - Banded by Dr Johnson
jrae replied to elaine3758's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
David Johnson is AWESOME. Unfortunately I was banded by terry Simpson. Biggest mistake of my life! He could never get my fills right- either too tight or too loose. Finally got sick of him and found dr Johnson thru my ob-gyn. Love love love him! His staff is wonderful, his office clean & modern and most importantly he is the polar opposite of Simpson- kind, caring & compassionate. -
Are you getting enough solid protein? If you are starving after slowly eating 4 oz portion of meat & 4 oz of veggies then you need a fill. Make sure you are drinking 8-10 cups of water too! At 1000 calories and walking you should be losing! Try My Fitness Pal to count calories and make sure you are measuring your food. I know how crushing it is to think you are doing everything right and still not losing weight! Just try to stay positive! Keep checking in so we know how you are doing!

You can also try a seafood fork- they are tiny!

I have struggled with a moody band as well and it can be very frustrating and depressing. One thing that helps me is to drink water!!! Drink drink drink! I have a 1 liter water bottle I found at wal Mart- 1 liter =about 4 cups. When I finish it, I immediately log it on my fitness pal. I have 10-12 cups a day. Also remember hot tea or broth when you feel stuck and force down that water! :-)

Need A Mentor To Help Get Me Back On Track
jrae replied to mommymary81's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Have you tried the my fitness pal or lose it apps? That was my first step in the right direction after getting off course. It made me focus on exactly what I was eating, if I was drinking enough water, getting enough protein. It kept me from popping that cracker in my mouth because I didn't want to log it! It has saved me too- we were at Bjs brew house & I wanted the fiesta chicken SALAD. I keyed it into my fitness pal & it was over 1000 calories!!! Take small steps. What's that Chinese proverb (?) "A journey of a 1000 miles begins with 1 step". Set 1 small goal today- "I will log all my food on MFP". Do it. Pat yourself on the back and set another small goal. You can do it! -
A slider is a food that goes down easily and isn't a good source of protein or nutrition. Ice cream, cheetos, chips are all examples of caloric and unhealthy foods that slide right thru your band! Don't eat them! If your band is too tight and you are hungry and can't keep solid protein down its all to easy to eat slider foods. If that's the case get a tiny un-fill.
-
Yes liquids only & get in tomorrow for an unfill!!! Try hot tea- sip 1 tsp at a time. Hot broth is good too. Cold liquids will come back up. It's miserable to be too tight. You'll feel like a new person after your unfill.
