Why by-pass & not the sleeve? My doc has expressed that he want me to do the sleeve since my band has been problematic from the start. I'm very interested in your opinion. Thanks!

Out With Lap Band, In With Sleeve...but Insurance Denied!!
jrae replied to CherBee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you so much for the honest feedback on your sleeve Jean! You never hear much about complications. My band & I have had a rough time these 3 years! My weight loss was never easy. I'd been doing so much better but lately have had bad heartburn & have been waking up choking on stomach acid! Awful stuff. My surgeon talked to me about converting to the sleeve but I'm afraid. If I failed with the band I'll probably fail with the sleeve. -
I know what you mean about being bored!! I make my lunch everyday for work- usually salad with deli meat & I make ranch dressing with l/f mayo & 1% milk. Also hard boiled eggs without yolk are a good snack. I really like special k pop crackers when I need crunch. It's hard I know!

Confused. Can Eat Anything And Nothing... Help!
jrae replied to SashaWLS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree! Get a tiny unfill. When you struggle with liquids it's a sure sign you are too tight. I believe I only have 3 ccs in an 11cc band & I am in the green zone right now. Dont lose hope- go see your dr. Good luck & keep us posted. -

Here is my current list: Edamame ( I buy it frozen. Microwave it, add salt) Banana carb master yogurt mixed with 1/2 cup kashi go lean honey almond flax cereal. Special k pop crackers with cottage cheese Salmon in the pouch Individual fish filets flash frozen in pouch- you can pull out 1 or 4. I love tilapia, cod, perch or flounder. They thaw quickly & can pan sautée.

Yes call your dr ASAP! My symptoms were similar but didn't have a slip- band was just too tight. Tiny unfill & back in the zone. It can happen out of the blue. Good luck.
-
My dr says full liquids only for 48 hours after a fill. Try waiting longer next time before trying to eat.
-
You probably need a tiny unfill. If you can't eat solid protein & veggies without a problem you are too tight. Rice pudding is a slider!! It goes down easy but won't fill you up like protein will and you will not lose weight. If you are drinking enough water, taking tiny bites & chewing your food to mush and you can't keep it down then you need an unfill. Make sure the brocolli is well cooked too- not crunchy or raw. Good luck.

I love gummy vites - target brand generics. Delish! Good for you too. Hang in there- it gets better. It's like childbirth - you forget how much it hurts after awhile.
-
Christie why can't you get the sleeve? Not that by pass is bad but the sleeve seems less drastic.

I agree with MellioM! My experience is similar to yours in that my band was never properly adjusted & too tight. I couldn't keep down the good solid protein & was always hungry & miserable. The trick for me was a new doc, an unfill, & logging my calories on myfitnesspal. Yes you can log food without the band but the band helps keep you satisfied with 1000-1200 calories. Try it again and don't give up! You did it before. Good luck! :-)

Thank you so much Judy! I really appreciate the info & will let you know what I get- I'm in the u.s. so not sure if we have that brand. Good to know about the instructions. :-)

I agree with Mis73! Do not reschedule! See your dr. & don't beat yourself up so much! I did the same thing recently where I fell off the wagon for 2 days. I was so scared thinking I'd lost my motivation and was heading for a downward spiral but as quick as it came, the urge to eat everything left. I got back on the plan & wasn't nearly so hungry or thinking about food so much. My 2 day binge made me gain 1.5 lbs but 3 days later I dropped 4 lbs! Go figure. Sometimes our bodies do funny things. It's just a bump in the road! Good luck. :-)

My friends call it "the barnyard" because it sounds like a bunch of farm animals are living in my stomach! :-)

When you can't keep down healthy food your band is too tight. I've struggled just like you and kept thinking I needed more fills because I'm starving and how terrible the band is and what's wrong with me because everyone can lose weight with it but me, blah blah blah, etc etc! Its really very simple but it took me 3 years to learn this: When you are hungry and can't keep down good solid protein you will fill up on sliders. It doesn't seem like you are eating much but you are consuming lots of calories. It doesn't matter if you have 10 ccs or 2 ccs! Get a tiny unfill so you can comfortably eat 4 oz of protein & 1/2 cup of veggies & fruit. The band will only help with hunger if you are eating correctly and drinking 8-10 cups of water a day. Do what you know you need to do! Keep us posted. Good luck. :-)

You ate too much. Take walk and try to remember the pain the next time you are tempted to eat over 1 cup at a sitting. I hope you feel better soon.

About To Go Back To "regular" Foods....feeling Intimidated!
jrae replied to Lori Voss Green's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh yes fish! 1-2 times a week for dinner! Salmon on the grill or white fish like cod perch or flounder. I quick sauté with lemon & a little butter. I buy it flash frozen in individual pouches. Salmon I get fresh at Costco. Hope that helps! -

Oh my goodness! God bless you and your little grandson! I will keep you inmy prayers. A sure sign your band is too tight is that you can't keep down solid protein. Fish is really a softer protein. Candy and sweets are sliders. You will gain weight or stay the same with this type of diet. Trust me I've been there! Get a tiny unfill. Good luck and keep us posted!

Seriously you last two need to get an unfill! Trying to tough it out is a recipe for having a slip and/or damage to your pouch and esophagus from acid reflux! It's not worth it! If you are eating correctly & drinking enough water then you need to spend the money before you do serious damage! Good luck.

Hot beverages are better than cold if you are struggling keeping liquids down I'd say you need a tiny unfill.

Enjoy it! This is your life now- not a diet. As long as its only occasional & you are losing.
