I am a mother of two beautiful grown girls and the grandmother of one girl, she will be 4 soon! I celebrated my 50th birthday this year and decided it was about time for me to take care of me. I love to travel. My favorite season is fall probably because it's cooler and because of football. I am a die hard Alabama fan ROLL TIDE!!! and a New Orleans Saints fan WHO DAT! I have always lived in the deep South and other than the humidity & heat love it here. I am from Alabama but grew up in New Orleans, lived in Albany GA for a few years where I met my husband of now 30 years. Now I'm back here in sweet home Alabama and I guess it's where I'll be until I die. It is home.

I have been overweight for several years, I would diet lose some gain back more than I lost over and over until finally I was what they call obese. What a horrible word and feeling, I was miserable and my blood pressure entirely to high! My doctor and I talked about all my yoyo dieting and my bp when he suggested lapband to me I was not sure but at the point I had to do something. My granddaughter stays with me a lot and loves to play outside but Gangan (what she calls me) was miserable outside in the hot southern sun so it was time for "drastic" action.

In November of 2011 I started seeing Dr. Issis to see if I would be eligible. After a long journey of weight checks, test and patience I was finally approved in late June and my surgery was scheduled for July 19th. Then came another delay, my surgeons daughter was on SYTYCD and he wanted to go see her (don't blame him at all) so my surgery was rescheduled for July 26th. Now it's been two weeks since the surgery I have no resistance in my band yet because he likes to wait at least 3 weeks to a month but I'm doing okay and have lost 14lbs. so far. I'm hoping this will be the start of a whole new active life for me.

I'm hoping to lose at least 90 lbs and then I'll write the rest of my story.
