Yes Whey (not New Whey) Protein Shots Review
mark! replied to DonRodolfo's topic in Food and Nutrition
Haha, my guess is that H.M.O. is too close to a derogatory term spelled a similar way. But, still, it should know the difference, unless someone in the past was using those 3 letters in place of the 4 letter word. -
Yes Whey (not New Whey) Protein Shots Review
mark! replied to DonRodolfo's topic in Food and Nutrition
A lot of people are just either not informed, or mis-informed. Bottom line, when it comes to Protein for anyone, let alone someone who is going to depend on supplementation after a major surgery, high quality products need to be used, not some short cut low quality product. These products are marketed to those who don't have time to sit and read/research what's actually in them, and what they use to get that protein number. Also, one has to keep in mind, you can pill cayenne pepper and market it as a fat loss supplement and there's nothing anyone can do about it. These companies don't even bother with an FDA approval because they know they won't get it. -
Yes Whey (not New Whey) Protein Shots Review
mark! replied to DonRodolfo's topic in Food and Nutrition
It's still hydrolyzed gelatin protein, even if they use whey, it's likely still collagen based which is a FAR in-superior protein blend. There is a trace amount of tryptophane, so the amino acids included are near pointless since the transport and sustaining compound isn't even included to a true BCAA ratio. The product, after being manufactured, (which is curious why the yes protein website is no longer accessible) likely sits on a shelf for months, thus breaking down the amino acids and protein make up, you're basically drinking a shitty tasting jello compound with half of the nutritional value it claims to have. Plus, take a look at what is used to make the gelatin protein blend...animal intestines, bones, teeth, and skin. As a meat eater, there's no damn way in hell I'd even fathom the idea of using these as a protein source, especially at a time as critical as post op. -
Nah, the only person that's ever in the gym at 3am is a chick that looks like she could bench press me at my heaviest weight, no good looking guys or girls there ever, pretty lame.

Perhaps, but...some things are quite honestly supposed to be kept to ones self.

How much protein is everyone getting in stage 2?
mark! replied to QweenNique's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm getting in around 100g a day usually At times 130g if I'm lifting a lot, or 80g if I'm resting that day. -
The hell? I didn't get poked, I'm a little upset by this.
-
Wow just saw that, really wish I didn't quite honestly.

My honest opinion? If you're letting her stick around, and you're supporting her, if she's not blood, or wearing your ring, she's out regardless. So you're not together, she knows this, what if she brings another man over? You gonna handle that well? What if you have the chance to hook up with someone, and you tell them "oh my ex lives with me still" boom she'll be gone faster than the road runner man. Plus, the wonderful common law marriage laws and community property laws. Not sure what state you're in but in Texas, she'd have rights to everything in your house and nothing you can do but take her to court. You said she's done nothing wrong, but then you say you can't stop revisiting the past and her "habits" etc. I'll tell you from experience in law enforcement, if her habit is alcohol and drugs, and your little boy is around that, and Mom is a clean person and finds out about it, you'll have more trouble on your hands than it's worth to keep her around.

Advice please, felt lightheaded in exercise class
mark! replied to UK Cathy's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I would start out with some whey protein about an hour before the class, it is digested faster than most others. You can also add some sort of drink like gatorade, even if you're trying to limit carb intake, these carbs will be directly used for fuel, and shouldn't have much if any effect on how your body reacts to them. Drink water before, during, and after the workout as well. -
The whoosh effect generally comes after the fat stores are emptied of triglycerides and then refilled temporarily with water, then once the water weight is dropped, thus the "whoosh" effect happens. It's actually very common among those who are getting leaner and leaner and getting close to goal weight dependent upon their body.

Help! Calories consumed vs calories burned.
mark! replied to newoutlookonlife's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I gotta eat some calories back. At the end of the day I burn anywhere from 2000-3000 calories tracked by fitbit for a while, and now with my body media. If I don't, my weight loss slows dramatically, but if I eat some of those calories back it starts right on moving again. -
When did you start to feel "normal" again?
mark! replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm gonna go against the grain here. I'm 7 weeks out as of yesterday and I feel normal. I'm back to being active, and I don't worry about what I eat, I've changed my lifestyle to surround myself with good, wholesome, nutritional foods and I know my tolerance levels. I don't stuff myself anymore, been there, done that, no thank you. My recovery has been a freaking breeze. -
I never had issues during my obese times, when my wife and I did the no pants dance together for the first time, she had to tap out and get a bottle of Water from the fridge, it seems to take me for forever to get the task done, again, no issues however during the process, just seems to take me longer than I guess average guys, or at least the ones I speak with. Post op sex: I'm down about 85 pounds, and we've discovered we can't go "quickie" style in doggie anymore, it causes too much pain. My wife has lost 30 pounds as well, so I think the combination has made a huge difference. To the ladies, be crazy careful when you've lost a lot of weight, from my wifes reaction there was no pleasure about it. To the guys, be easy for the first little bit until you've tested the "canal" and make sure nothings going to get hit/jarred around that isn't supposed to be. We are trying new positions, last night we did something I'd ALWAYS wanted to do and it was amazing. Know those scenes where the guy picks the girl up and is standing while cradling her with her legs wrapped around him? Hell yes.

In every aspect of every mans life, the more women around the merrier. Support groups...ah support groups. I understand people have complications and issues, but I've never been one to sit down and listen to them and not be able to speak my mind. I was a peer mediator and later on a school counselor and I figured I'd get booted from that position real quick, but instead everyone wanted to come to me because they always got it straight, no BS instead of someone just saying "I see, how does that make you feel?" (sadface) I do want to at least give one a shot, and I'm positive I will soon, just trying to prepare myself mentally, and prepare my tongue for the teeth marks I may leave.

What did it feel like when you woke up from surgery?
mark! replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I woke up dazed and confused, ha not the first time I've experienced that, only never in a surgery room before at least. Once I got my bearings I was good. My BP was spiking very high so they kept me in recovery for a few extra hours, but once it was lower, like none instant death area, all was well. Very little pain throughout my entire healing and post op. -
Stomach staples? What kind of staple? Can you be allergic to the staples?
mark! replied to Heather Meyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, surgical titanium. Won't show up on metal detectors or anything of that sort, and unlikely chance to have issues with them once they're inside. Not impossible, especially to someone who has metal allergies such as yourself, but unlikely. Hopefully there won't be any issues. I know when my ears were pierced I used surgical titanium spacers, have you had any titanium in the past? -
In this economy, if I wasn't in law enforcement where apparently the job market is great since most departments are hiring like mad right now, I'd find a job and stick with it. There's too much uncertainty out there for me.

I've tried pulling sumo for max effort days, and I just can't do it. I can pull up to 405 with sumo, anything over that hurts so I started using sumo with much lighter weights for back accessory stuff and pull conventional at meets and for max effort work. Some people are just build for conventional, I think we're some of those people.

Cheap, simple, effective...Optimum Nutrition's Casein blend. There are some formulated proteins for night time, but a good casein blend is all that's really needed. I've never used Nimbus Nite Time protein, but it's supposed to be pretty decent with aminos and such. No fat, no sugar, <1g carb. Both are around the same price. I don't have any experience with any other night time formulas.

BE READY! Just go in to it with a positive attitude and knowing you're going to succeed and do amazing. They also told me my insurance company takes 2 weeks minimum to respond, I was called in 6 business days, I hope you have the same or better results.

no Ibuprofen after surgery?
mark! replied to Kelsie_A's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
^^ Same thing I was told at my 1.5 month check up. They told me there was nothing that could hurt me or my sleeve now and to resume eating healthy foods as I could. I asked about NSAIDS for joint relief due to work outs and biking/hiking, and she said I could take them as long as I still take my acid reducer and with food. -
Calm down "friend". The statement was ignorance when read the way it was typed out. I don't know you nor care about your personal ignorance level, only making sure someone doesn't start spewing convoluted BS about the biggest compound lift in the lifting community.

Bodyweight squats have a place in every lifters routine, but you saying it "trumps wasted weights any day" is 110% pure ignorance.
