Carbs, they do amazing things for energy levels. Especially shitty carbs. Amazingly enough, before the powerlifting meet where I broke 2 state records, I had finished up 4 snickers bars and chocolate milk. The worse the carbs the quicker they're digested and the higher the insulin spike, it's high octane fuel. Not advisable on an ordinary diet.

I've found Nike, Reebok and Adidas shoes either horribly over cushioned, or horribly under cushioned. If you get the Frees and you over pronate, say goodbye to your knees pretty soon, same with Vibrams and others like that. There's nothing wrong with them if your feet and knees accept them, but if you're in need of more/less cushion, may not be a good idea. I'm a huge fan of Run On! I get all of my shoes there minus my hiking and biking shoes. I've never felt better about shoes in my life.

Haha, it's fun going back through my journal, I can always tell the "OMFG" days by how much sweat is on the page, and how bad my handwriting gets as the workout goes on. This was leg day a few days ago. I had to sit for about 20 minutes before I could walk safely out of the gym. I'll include my commentary, as best as I can, some of its pretty messy. Leg Press-still not full squatting due to back tightness and knee soreness. Started animal flex 2x for load phase yesterday. (Something else, but can't read it due to sweat blurring it out) 225 x 20 315 x 10 405 x 8 495 x 6 585 x 5 675 x 4 765 x 4 -work sets to stop at 6pps (plates per side), felt like baby weight, worked to 7pps and moved easily. 765 x 4 675 x 4 585 x 5 495 x 6 405 x 8 315 x 20 rested at 17 reps. Cable Rows 150 x 10 too easy 180 x 10 x 3 Machine Rows 315 x 6 x 3 275 x 6 DB Rows 85's x 4 x 3 100's x 6 x 2 115's x 4 x 2 Triceps Pulldowns 140 x 12 x 3 180 x 8 x 2 200 x 4 x 2 Weight stack out of weight, bastards Leg Extensions 155 x 6 195 x 6 x 2 225 x 6 + 4 HRT style (Hellraiser training, incorporating slow, delayed lowering of the weight for muscle growth) Leg Curls 155 x 6 x 2 180 x 4 Reverse Cable Curls 40 x 10 x 3, 8, 6 Hip Abductor-always feel like a pansy on this, until I can't walk the next day. 160 x 20 x 3 So, there ya go, a glimpse in to my leg and back day. I do triceps every day, and usually add biceps in as well every day, tri's to failure, biceps to burn.

I cracked. I smoked about 1/4 of a bowl last week. Nice slow draws, was nice. But, like usual, I probably won't smoke again for another month at least, just because that's the way I roll.
-
Walking and hiking at 2 weeks out, full on workouts minus ab isolation at 4 weeks, but did compound movements like squats and deadlifts at that time, starting very light and working up to heavier weights later on. I think it's important to not stress yourself just yet, take things slow, even if you start working out and such, start slow and built up over the course of a few days.

Hams and back, yup, glutes, to a certain extent yes. I do back extensions with a barbell loaded to 135, nice a slow. The more controlled and slow you can do them, the better it's going to target.

Yes, I posted the same exact thing in the nutrition forum, needs to be seen. Every day/week/month there is an influx of posts raving about these amazing Protein shots and how awesome they are, you can chug 42g of protein in a second and it's all good, right? No, I'm afraid not. If you notice, many of the protein shot companies are no longer around. What does that mean you ask? Well, that means some supplement company or big box store bought a **** load of protein tubes for a freakishly low price, and are passing on the great savings to you for your health!! Actually no, bubble burster ahead. It means they're making a killing off of these because they cost nothing to make because they're all made with such a low quality of products. What happens when BCAA and Proteins sit on a shelf in liquid form? It all becomes chemically unchained, making the product worthless to you. As they are manufactured, sure I'm sure they have MAYBE 42g of protein, but after it's sat for a month? Not anywhere near that much and the BCAA's in there are pointless, the main chained amino acid becomes stale and breaks down, so the vessel that transports the rest of the amino acids no longer exists, so no amino's get anywhere where they're needed. Actinase [Patent Pending Blend Of Enzymatically Hydrolyzed (Predigested) Collagenic Protein Isolate, whey Protein Isolate, Casein Protein Isolaate Ever drink any protein that has ^^ that in it? Congratulations you just drank ground cow parts, bones, hair, hide, teeth, and at times even organs if they're not separated at the mill. Gelatin dessert, and although it might be a fun food, it was not designed to build muscle mass and it won't. This protein has a PER of almost 0. It contains little or no tryptophane, one of the essential Amino Acids necessary for the formation and utilization of all the other Amino Acids. It is a lot cheaper for a manufacturer to purchase hydrolyzed gelatin than the special whey American Body Building uses, which is a natural milk protein naturally extracted during the processing of cheese, after which the lactose, a milk sugar, is removed. When using hydrolyzed gelatin, the nutritional information panel on the label is supposed to make the statement "Not a significant source of Protein" next to the word protein. But they usually and conveniently forger to include it. Have you been using a product like this and not gained the mass you thought you should on a high protein supplement? Well, you're not getting any protein for it. Whenever you see hydrolyzed gelatin anywhere on the label, even if the label says the product contains whey, check your rear view mirror. Gelatin can cost 75% less than soluble whey, and whey is much more difficult to process. Given these facts, how much quality protein do you believe they are actually giving you in their products when gelatin is listed on the label. THINK ABOUT IT! For these and other reasons of increased processing costs, some manufacturers opt to go the easy way, and put low quality, low biological utilization proteins in their products. Your body cannot even being to absorb the protein inside these tubes because of the incomplete BCAA profile. You're literally crapping this protein right out your rear end, might as well just throw your money in the toilet, you'll be doing yourself a favor. http://www.getbig.co...es/faq-drnk.htm http://en.wikipedia....olyzed_collagen http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/10460913 http://etd.uthsc.edu...reviewright.htm http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/18661536 http://www.journalof...0223-3/abstract

My wife is pissed!
mark! replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My wife sleeps in my big shirts, so she's taken a few to her side of the closet and keeps them as sleep wear. I told her a minimum of 3, jokingly, and somehow I can't find any of them anymore. She's got them stashed somewhere I'm sure. -
keeping hydrated during very strenuous outdoor activities?
mark! replied to OnlyDownFromHere's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I'm a Camelbak believer mostly because we get law enforcement discounts from their store. I've heard amazing things about Ospreys. Camelbaks and Ospreys are both crazy expensive. What I did in the past before getting my assortment of 'Baks, was go to Wal Mart and buy one of those packs, and buy a Camelbak bladder online for cheap. I have several 60oz bladders, and 3 100oz bladders for our backpacking weekends/weeks. The good news it, most long hiking packs and suited for hydration packs, so once you have a few good bladders, you don't have to worry about buying any more, just switch them out. If you do get one, clean them after use. I empty mine, let it air dry, then throw it in the freezer to kill off anything that may be in it. I'll use cleaning tabs once a month or so, more frequently however in the Texas summer when used on back packing trips. We're taking a 3 day back packing trip in May up in Arkansas, so between the wife and I, we'll be carrying 260oz of Water on us, plus refilling at the river from time to time. -
Protein Shots...once and for all.

Don't' call people whiny babies, they're sensitive and will cry to a moderator when you call them that. They also cry when you tell them eating a damn taco bell taco isn't good for them. -

And some serious pussification of people on here who are too lazy to do what they're supposed to so they try to find loop holes to suite their personal net gain...yup. Say what you want, I really couldn't care less, I just think it's funny people eating taco bell and other **** and think they're going to be successful by fueling their body with junk, worthless food that does absolutely nothing for the body. I wasn't pissed, it was more sarcasm, along with 'wtf are you thinking' type moment. I watch out for numero uno, and give my opinion freely, but ya ain't gotta take it missy. -
Protein Shots...once and for all.

From what I've READ, the Yes! Whey are the best tube protein, my only question would be if there's a printed manufactured date on the package, as even whey protein has a shelf life, be in longer than most others, but it will break down over time. -

It's the same thing every day. Stop using these test tube crap proteins. You're not getting 42g of protein, you're getting garbage supplementation from a garbage source that's sat on a shelf for months and months losing nutrients and anything else in them. Collagen based (jello) protein shots are NOT going to get you the protein you need. I strongly advise reading up on the products listed and what they actually are. You're drinking ground up bones, cow hide and teeth (to make the collagen product) and the whey protein used is such a crappy blend of protein, it's the cheapest blend that no one else will touch with a 10 foot stick.

My Suggestion-Stop The Obsessing. Rules Are Meant To Be Broken
mark! replied to NJSleeveboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This, exactly. If we all followed the rules in the first place we wouldn't be here, but we chose to NOT FOLLOW the rules and ended up where we had to have a surgery to save our lives. -
My Suggestion-Stop The Obsessing. Rules Are Meant To Be Broken
mark! replied to NJSleeveboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's funny people are posting about eating complete shitty junk food and saying they don't have to follow the rules. Good job! Wish I could eat food completely devoid of any usable nutrition and be ok with it...wait I can but choose not to because medical professionals told me that's what makes me fat in the first place and I had a very serious, very expensive surgery to make me not as fat anymore. Jesus Christ. -
Quite honestly, it pisses me off when I see someone trying to tell someone else how to live/eat. I think it's a waste of time and effort in most cases. I can understand if it's your husband/wife/kids/parents/close friend, but co-workers? That's a bit invasive in my opinion. People know what they're doing, and they choose to do it, so be it. Some people just don't care about calories/fat/carbs/etc like we do/have to. Let them be. For the sake of relationships at work and other places, worry about yourselves. It's also very hard to take advice from people who are obese and out of shape. I rarely give nutrition advice. I have a certificate that says legally, I can, however I steer clear of it and focus on giving strength training. Just because we have a mindset, or experience in something doesn't mean we should go around telling others what to do or making them feel guilty about enjoying something.

You could try something like Skype for video chat though.

Googe Voice isn't making the call if you're on your cell phone and on wifi, it doesn't matter. GV is making calls THROUGH your carrier, roaming will still be an issue.

There have been numerous issues with iPads and the case not being assembled correctly at the plant, creating pressure on the screen and it thinking you're typing when you aren't. A buddy of mine would have this issue so often, it was due to his exterior casing, so he replaced it himself (voids warranty but between him and I we didn't trust the Apple folks) and it solved the issue.

Ah ha, where they typing something or just random letters?

I don't think it's possible to "crack" an account on a forum and start typing on a post where you are already typing. It would let you finish, and then tell you you've been signed out or logged in to another location. Someone could be accessing your computer, is your husband/son/daughter/anyone computer savvy? Windows has a very simple and some times maliciously delightful pc to pc assistance program that I love to use to gain access to others computers and jack with them. Someone could have set it to auto allow, and could have gained access that way. If I were you, and no one confesses to it at home, I'd definitely be looking in to a very good anti virus and firewall (Zone Alarm always gets my vote) and run a full scan.

So for real, how do you chew your food into a mashy mush of ...
mark! replied to LipstickLady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Coming from a guy who used to inhale food and barely chew anything (as a child I nearly choked on a piece of steak because huge bite, little chewing), it's completely possible. It's hard at first, but after a while it's second nature. During my pureed food stage, I would just chew a little to get used to it again, then soft foods was hard at first as well, but after some time it worked itself out. Smaller bites helped me a ton, less chewing, and more room to rearrange things in my mouth to chew the non chewed bits up.
