Relating to Starvation Mode: http://psycnet.apa.org/index.cfm?fa=search.displayRecord&uid=1951-02195-000 Again, it's real, and people have issues with it, however it takes longer than most people realize for it to happen. In the 6 month Ancel Keys study done in the 40's, people were put on 50% intake diets for 6 months. At the end of the 6 months, their metabolisms had slowed from as little as 13%, to the greatest at 40%. It's real, and it's not a myth as some call it, but it's not the killer disease some play it up to be. That's the most well known study I personally know of. Physiology can mostly be found on any medical trusted site. As for kinesiology, I've read and applied numerous things in the past, but for everyone, mostly, workout science isn't always spot on. I use ExRx a lot, it also has a good explanation of workouts, showing pictures and videos for form. Also, bodyrecomposition.com is a good site for all things related to the gym. Lyle McDonald is a well known trainer and has a ton of great information. His books are certainly worth reading. my be all end all for studies, is the http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ site. Yes, it's a government website, but it's composed of outside studies from those who include them. It takes some time learning to navigate the site, but any questions you may have, they've likely been answered in detailed studies on the sites explaining the answer. Register on the site for sure, that way you can save your research and look back on it later.

Sassy, the only thing I could think of would be to contact a few local surgeons around here and see how well their insurance area handles medicare cases. It's likely some practice has had a lot of experience and knows how to word things and help to get approval. I'm in the Dallas area too, please do let me know if there's anything you need.

No. There is a group that believes a method of transport between a thought, and its recipient is a single plan and cannot be altered or modified per each individual person that needs help. It's not that they're wrong, they're frequently right, but the issue is the way the perceive themselves to others, giving a negative impression. This is not what 90% of the people on this site are like. In my experience, most are very welcoming and warm, giving their experience and opinion in a calm, non threatening manner. It's just hard to not lose track of the message the others have.

I really want to post something, but I literally cannot say anything at all about anything....I'm sorry I stirred the pot in the other post and spoke my mind, don't know what I was thinking really...if I would have known THIS would have happened, boy I would have NOT posted anything at all. I do think there are certain ways to confront people, and it's hard for some to convey their message to particular people via the internet, so sometimes we have to curb our thoughts in to generally constructive thoughts to not provoke drama, or upsetting the other party. I honestly believe this all started over really nothing, and definitely should have never, ever turned out to be what it is right now. Tough love doesn't work for everyone. Many of you, apparently think that if a person doesn't respond well to "tough love" that makes them a pansy, or a baby, which is pretty outrageous. If you're not my superior officer, or someone who's in a higher position than I, am I going to listen to you when you belittle me? Hellz naw. I'm gonna stare at you, laugh in your face and tell you to go pound dirt. BUT, it's the internet, a land of lost sarcasm and miscommunications. It just happens that way. It's all about ones ability to be personable, if you truly want to give your opinion on everything and not be so critical of every little detail and so "plain Jane" with things. I hope this wraps up soon, and gets put behind everyone because it's really tarnishing the reputation of those who are friendly and warm with other members. More especially since this thing is at the top. Please be nice?

I'm on pre op diet, 2 days left, damn it feels good to say that! My pre op started pretty bad, cravings, mind telling me things would taste amazing. I kept looking back on my life. Did I really enjoy that? Did I need that? Did I NEED that? Nope. Not at all. Determination is where it's at, get your mind in the right spot. Remember everything that's hard right now, and then imagine a world you live in where things aren't so complicated. America has become such a foody type nation, everything we do revolves around food, so much that it's killing our children and loved ones. I got tired of living to eat instead of eating to live.

Yeah they gave my hibicleanse. Night before, and morning before leaving the house.

Dang this spiraled really quick like. I just want to say, I love each and every one of you...

Cmon, at least do what I do, stick around to at least annoy others, I'm favorable to annoying Laura, so I gotta stick around for that.

DeeDee, stick around! Just think to yourself, there could be one person out there that you can reach and relate to, give information to and help on their journey to a healthier lifestyle! What happened happened, I think we've all made amends and hopefully we're all good (I'm good). I really wish you'd stick around. There are some top notch folks here who, like I told you earlier, will go out of their way to help you and see that you're ok. We're all in this together, and since there are so many of us, our personalities and such will clash from time to time, but like a family, we'll work it out and we'll be good to go. Cmon girl, you can do this!

I get the whole shrinking liver thing, whatever, but seeing people have success with the sleeve with minimal/no pre op liquid diet, yeah I'm jealous, haha. A friend of mine was only to do a 2 day pre op, one full Protein meal, and liquids, and she's lost 100 pounds in I think 8 months.

Yeah....I guess I'm just seeing it all wrong. I felt it was a public attack and out of line, but I suppose it's just me here with that viewpoint. DeeDee I'm sorry I got the thread off topic, all else stands as my opinion, right or wrong. -

For Pink Floyd? That changes everything. I'd do it for Pink Floyd. And...I was introduced to b-hole surfers in 8th grade, 1998, good times. Was shocked to hear my beloved Mr. Peppermint fathered the singer, haha. -

Psh, you women act like we don't manscape already, cmon! The only thing, completely shaving down there makes me feel like I'm 12 again, kind of weird. But a trimmer gets everything done up nicely, haha. I may take my electric razor and hit my stomach, but I already don't have much hair there anyway, ha.

post for the men in the man room. please read. guys eyes only

How many times has this happened? If it's just once or twice, I'd give it some time man, you could be stressed, rubbed something a certain way, hit a nerve, anything really. Your body is undergoing so many changes right now, rest easy bud, if it's a reoccurring problem, you may want to talk to your surgeons office or doctor about it, but if it's just a few times...I'd ride it out (literally) and see how it plays out. -
For the first week I'll be using Isopure for my protein intake since it's clear fluids for me. After I go back to my full fluids, I'll be switching back to my proteins that I used before starting my preop, monster milk and true nutrition proteins.

May God have mercy on your soul! Jeez, I'm glad mine is 14 days. Whew! For me, it's been sugar free jello, popsicles, protein, and the occasional breath mint or gum.

mark! replied to jacee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
26th here. I'm like a dog pissing myself, the emotional roller coaster I WAS on doesn't even hold a candle to this ride as time draws near. After my EGD though, it's been mostly good vibes since that procedure was so easy. -

Oy vey iz mir. Roughly 3 weeks post op? Not a chance i hell I'd be moshing at this point, hell I wouldn't even partake in a venue of such until I was at least 3-4 months post op. You're still in the healing phase, granted close to the back end, but it's certainly not too late for something to go terribly wrong. -
It's all about the Water. The whole "starvation" thing is pretty bunked, both food and water. The metabolism and physiology of the body all move so slowly, it literally takes many, many weeks, if not months before the body reacts and hits that phase, and then even then, most people will never truly kick off true starvation mode in their life, it's just not as common as the fitness people throw around and there is a TON of misinformation about it. It's a real thing, a very real thing, but if it were as prominent as people throw around, our world wide epidemic of morbid obesity would not exist as it does today. Short Answer: You work out, muscle fibers tear (it's how new, stronger muscles develop), your body goes in to repair mode. In order to do so, you start retaining fluids, water weight, as it's called. Your body fills these glycogen stores and keeps them full for 24-78 hours after working out to repair the muscles and get them back to where they need to be. The soreness, etc, is all part of the wonderful rotation of building new, lean tissue. There have been huge scientific studies about it, but I won't bore you with them here. It's totally normal after starting a program, and having a massive workout for your weight to be up a tad, sometimes as much as 3-4 pounds. If you're holding steady, it's the fat being lost, yet your body maintaining weight via fluids. As others have stated, it is absolutely imperative for you to get in those fluids to help your body recover!

Haha, I found out that if they use a catheter, they'll have it out by the time I wake up, but they usually don't use one, and no drain tube.

I'm around Dallas, but always go up to Oklahoma, at least a few times a month in Hugo area. I believe the revision is where they remove the band, and do the sleeve. Good luck with everything.
