Feeling Defeated Due To Stall
MKambalimath replied to mrsnate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long ago were you sleeved? I'm 7 weeks out and STILL stalled from 3 weeks out. I'm going from 29-30lbs lost, up and down up and down for 4 weeks now. I'm so discouraged and MAD. I cant help feeling really mad about it. I've tried upping my calories and exercising like crazy but still nothing. At this point I wish I wouldn't have done the surgery. I know if I suddenly drop 10lbs then I will be happy again, but as of right now I feel like I cut my stomach out for nothing -
Good for you! I cant wait til I get there, that might be the happiest day in my life! LOL

I think after the initial ton of weight we lose, they expect us to lose 1-2 lbs a week anyway so it sounds like you are doing really well. I agree with Dorrie though, everything I've heard from my NUT and on this site says you probably need to up your calories a little bit. I'm really disappointed I've only lost 30 in 6.5 weeks, so I decided not to get on the scale until Sunday.

You look great at 40lbs lost! Good for you!
-
I'm absolutely feeling you! I have a 3 yr old whos 27lbs. I was told that I couldnt lift more than 10 lbs until I was 6 weeks out. That lasted about 2 weeks. My mom was a big help because my son and I went to stay with her and my dad for weeks 2-4 but I still lifted him sometimes. I went back home at 4 weeks and was home with him all day while my husband was at work and lifted him all the time. I know we have to be careful, but they're your baby. At least my son is old enough he could climb on the couch with me by himself. I think you should do your best, but its too hard when they want you

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?
MKambalimath replied to got2bthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you should ask whatever you want. It never hurts to get an updated view of things anyway Good luck to you! -
The 2nd time I had chicken that happened to me. I was freaking out and contemplated going to the ER. I was about 2.5 weeks out then too. I called my sister who had the surgery a couple months before me and she said she'd had the same issues when she started with meat protein, but to go if I was concerned. Of course I didnt go, and the next morning it was fine, so I never went to the Dr for it, but you have to do what youre comfortable with. Its better to be safe than sorry

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?
MKambalimath replied to got2bthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My best friend had a RNY 6 years ago, before the sleeve was widely done. She had a LOT of problems with dumping and malnourishment. I think the sleeve is so popular now because it doesn't re-route your intestines so you dont have as much trouble with being malnurished. You're the 3rd person today that I've read about a Dr "pushing" them towards RNY. I wonder why? -
I don't know, I asked my PT about this last week, because I was feeling very weak after my work out. She said that I should have some carbs along with my protein BEFORE working out. Usually I had a Sargento cheese stick before, but she said to add in a few multi grain crackers with it. Then when I am done I should have some protein soon after, like a protein bar or something. She said that the carbs stick with you a little longer and give you extra energy since I'm not really eating enough being 6 weeks out. Obviously you wouldn't have a handful of cookies or something though.

Random Thought
MKambalimath replied to DuranFan1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think its funny that before I started looking into the surgery, my Dr prescribed me Meridia to help with my weight loss. I got a letter from my insurance company saying they would not cover that and it was over $100. Also, they did not offer any discounts on gyms or weight loss programs. However, I was able to get approved for surgery right away. Theres something seriously wrong with an industry that will cover $20+ thousand but not a $100 script. -
Never EVER thought I would actually enjoy going to the gym. I've started going though and today even took my son. My program through my surgeon gives me a 6 month free membership to the healthplex at the hospital and its a really great gym. Theres so many classes and activities to do, and it has something called KidFit, where you can bring your kid while you work out. My son LOVED it. I had 2 hours of peace to get my cardio in today and I have to say, I rocked it. Considering I sold a treadmill a couple yrs ago that I used maybe 5 time, lol. I'm actually looking forward to going back tomorrow night to do some weights with my trainer!

I know earlier you said you had it around the same time I had mine, how much are you down now?
-
Yep, when I went to my 6 week check up, they told me I should be eating between 600-800 cal a day right now, thats why they wanted me to eat at least one more meal a day. I've been doing that since Wed. She also told me that when you constantly weigh yourself, you get too stressed out and somehow stress will hold back your weight loss. Of course, I still got on the damn thing today, lol. My NUT expressly told me not to force the calorie thing, she said as I go, I will just eat a little more at a time at a meal. I guess you really dont want to stuff yourself just to make 800. Its hard for me to get that extra meal in, you wouldnt think so, but I dont remember or Ive got so much going on. I decided to have a Protein bar in my purse at all times

Can I Leave The Husband At Home?
MKambalimath replied to SophieJaneB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even though you will be doing a lot of sleeping, you should have someone there in case something happens. Not to be a downer or anything, but my husband went in for nasal surgery a couple yrs ago. I almost didnt go with him because my son was tiny but ended up having my parents come stay the night and watch him. My husband almost died of a blood clot. Thank God I was there. You need someone to be there to be your advocate in case you cant be. I kept telling my husband to go home whenever I woke up after my surgery, but every time, he was still there. He didn't go home til after 10pm and was there by 8am the next morning. He helped me walk, and I was much more comfortable with him than the nurses. Even though they were great, hes still my husband you know? -
Personally, I think the obsession continues AFTER surgery too! It pretty much consumes my life right now. That and going to the gym. I know my husbands over hearing about what I ate today, what the scale says, how many miles on the treadmill, lol. I wonder if anyone else further along can let me know if you eventually forget about it or if it consumes you forever??

Congrats D!

Liking The Gym?!?!?!
MKambalimath replied to MKambalimath's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I wish mine would tell me to slow it down, lol. The main reason I started going to the gym was to break my stall.....and I lost 2 more lbs, but still, only 30 in 6 weeks. I really thought I would have lost more. I know everyones different, but geez. I barely eat 500 calories a day! I did go to my 6wk check up yest and he told me I was "right on track" so I'm not really losing slow, my expectations were apparently just too high! -

Good for you! I cant wait to get down to a 16! LOL. Small goals first right?? -
Hi everyone! Ive been reading through this forum because Ive seen a lot of people in other areas comment about having revisions from band to sleeve. I was sleeved in April, but had seriously thought about the band before. I decided against it just because I was leery of something that had to be adjusted all the time. Im wondering WHY theres so many revisions though? Did it not work? Or are there a lot of problems with it? Just curious to know
-
Hi Leaha I'm 6 1/2 weeks out. I think everyone's different, but at 2 weeks out I was still taking it easy. I don't think you should walk more than a mile a day for sure. There's plenty of time for that later, right now you just want to take care of yourself and heal. It hurt me to bend over until probably 4 weeks out, but now I can do anything and I feel fine. I still get tired easily because I'm not getting all the nutrition in I'm supposed to. But I go to the gym at least 3 times a week and walk and bike for 60+ mins. One thing to make sure you do is try not to lift over 10lbs until your Dr clears you. I know its hard, I have a 3 yr old, but I messed myself up pretty bad from lifting him, and my Dr said I was risking having issues with my incisions if I kept doing it. Luckily I was able to go to my parents out of state and they did all the heavy lifting for me with my son. Not everyones that lucky, but just try your best

Revisions?
MKambalimath replied to MKambalimath's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I understand you feeling bitter after all that. Funny thing is, even though I love my Dr, when I went to the first informational meeting before my surgery, he did mention that sometimes there was slippage of a band but that it was "rare". Never heard about the other issues until I was on this website! Good luck to you on your journey!
