What Makes Sleeve Different Than High Protein Diet?
MKambalimath replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The surgery isn't a diet, that's the thing to keep in mind. You physically CANNOT eat like you used to. If you are someone that can diet and then maintain your weight loss, you might not need the surgery. If you are someone that's incapeable of doing that, then surgery might be your last resort. I know it was mine. The reason we focus on protein here is because its very important for your body, and it fills you up faster. I've learned the hard way that after a couple months, you can eat more carbs than protein and still feel hungry. If you start with protein though, you wont want the bad stuff -
What Did You Tell Your Kids?
MKambalimath replied to CBT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't tell my son but hes only 3. I didn't know if he would understand at all. He was up the morning I had surgery and I just said "mommy's going to the Dr but I'll see you tomorrow". He was watching Mickey with my dad so he barely acknowledged me, lol. My parents watched him while my husband and I were at the hospital, and they told me later that the evening of my surgery he kept asking where we were and said we had to go find mommy and daddy, but then my husband got home so he was OK. After, I had to keep reminding him of my "boo boos" so he didn't jump on me. Now he always asks to see my boo boos, and tries to lift my shirt up, even in public, LOL. -
First time I've taken a bariatric vit since right after my surgery and its the 2nd time I threw up since surgery. I just cant stomach those things

Its only selfish if you don't do anything else.

I haven't been to the gym in well over a week. I fainted last Saturday at work (mortifying) and was scared to go Sunday before work in case I did it again. Then I went to visit my family in MI all last week. My parents have a treadmill but I only used it twice . I had to work all this weekend too, so again, I didn't want to over exert myself in the heat when I had to be at work. I really don't want a repeat of last weekend. Now, its Monday (very early here in OH) and I'm planning on going every day this week since I'm going BACK to MI this coming weekend. I'm SO scared now. I haven't seen my trainer or lifted a weight, and I'm afraid I lost all progress I made on the "helliptical". I'm afraid its going to be like starting over . Even thinking about it is making me soooooooooo tired, lol.

I feel the same way about cooking. I never liked it anyway, but now that I barely eat any of it, its a lot harder for me to cook it. I know I should, I mean, my sons only 3, but I've definitely been leaving that for my husband lately. I only cook 1-2 times a week now :/

I absolutely agree with this. Theres an accountability when you track. Also, if you make it available to friends you have on public, the thought of having a bunch of fitness psychos reading your diary tends to make you even MORE accountable, lol.

I've read that there's something like an 80% divorce rate for people who have WLS. Not that that's whats happening in your case at all, but I guess its from how hard this surgery is on couples. If you're very overweight, I think people tend to settle sometimes, and then when they lose the weight, they start thinking they shouldn't have to settle anymore. This happened with my best friend who had the RNY 7 yrs ago. Her and her husband finally divorced 2 yrs ago. Also, expectations change. Maybe your husband feels like hes falling behind in whats important to you? I'm 10 weeks out on Wed and have lost 35lbs. I've been going to the gym almost every evening and that leaves my husband to cook dinner for our son and hes alone a lot. (My husband, not my son, lol) He says he feels lonely. I say I can go in the afternoon, but then I have to pay for the KidsFit area of my gym, but he doesn't want to spend the money so its a no win for me. I think he sometimes feels like hes not part of a big deal in my life anymore, which inst true at all, but I think that's how he feels.

Driving Post Op
MKambalimath replied to Danielle Beadle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasnt supposed to drive because of the pain meds and not for long because of possibility of blood clots. If youre not taking pain meds and youre not driving for more than a half hour or so, I would think you would be fine. Geez, I just read how its 45 mins away, lol. Your surgeon could probably tell you better then. -
Congrats on your surgery and your recovery! Drinking water is hard on everyone in the beginning because youre still so swollen inside. It will definitely get better. Welcome to the boards

Where are you going that its only 50 degrees? I want to come, lol. I stalled for 4 weeks and now even though I'm losing a little, its VERY slow. This is not what I expected with the WLS BUT, at least I am losing, whereas I probably would have gained 5-10 lbs before surgery

My Boyfriend Left Me
MKambalimath replied to missmachine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure what that has to do with what I posted. Obviously you have strong feelings about your experience stepfathering. What you seem to have missed is that I said its not ANY MORE respectable for a supposed stepfather to just leave than it is for a REAL FATHER. A man who leaves his kids just like that is a loser, period. Same for a woman that leaves her kids. If you are too immature to be in a relationship with a woman who has kids, you need to go elsewhere. Unfortunately this is a disposable society, including people disposing of their families when it doesnt suit their needs anymore. Whether this guy likes it or not, he made a commitment to that child when he got involved with this woman. If that wasnt his intention, he should have kept it in his pants and found someone without. Its not like he didnt KNOW she had a kid. Now I'm not saying she was an innocent party. Theres always 2 sides and the truth. But that kid is innocent. To just up and leave her and her kid when shes 3 days out of surgery is heartless and cowardly. -
Getting Back In The Groove
MKambalimath replied to MKambalimath's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no idea. I had gone to a Zumba class in the morning and started work at 230pm. I fainted a little after 4. I THINK, it might have been a combination of too long between meals, over exertion and dehydration when it was over 90 degrees. I work at an outlet mall and I was really early for work so I walked around the mall 3 times for a little more exercise. I think it was all just too much for me. -
Apparently I have a blog. I don't know when or how I set it up, but I was thinking it might come in handy on nights like tonight when I cant sleep and all I want to do it raid the fridge. Instead of stalking other peoples posts I can just make my own I was sleeved on April 25, 2012, and so far have lost 35lbs. I usually say "only 35lbs" since I'm a little disappointed with my loss so far. I really thought that this far out, I would have lost at least 50lbs. I know, I know, you're not supposed to compare yourself, but honestly, who doesn't?!?! I've gone down 1-2 sizes in my pants and 1 in tops. My family and friends see a difference, but I don't at all. I struggle with getting my water in, and I struggle to get my protein in. I'm really struggling with wanting to graze too. So far, I'm losing that battle. Hence, the blog that might keep me away from the fridge:)

My Boyfriend Left Me
MKambalimath replied to missmachine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its not any more respectful to act like a father for 6 yrs of a 12 yr olds life and then just leave than it is for a real father leaving. When you get involved with a man/woman that has kids, you better be mature before you get into it. Its not just a woman/man, its their kids that you're dealing with. -

My Boyfriend Left Me
MKambalimath replied to missmachine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If he says he wants to meet with her and talk about things and then doesnt show up, hes not much of a man. If hes done with her and the kid he may or may not have thought of as a son, he should just tell her and not make promises to talk it over and then not show. IMO though, the best thing to do is move on and not call or text or whatever. He made his decision however many times he didnt show, so no sense lowering yourself to being the clingy woman that wont take no for an answer. And losing weight and being "thin" isnt going to "show him" anything, moving on with your life and LIVING is the best revenge. -
Stocking Up Smaller Wardrobe?
MKambalimath replied to lizzybean3377@yahoo.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didnt buy anything new before hand either. You just dont know what you will be in or where you will lose the weight first. I've lost 35lbs and just now my bras are starting to get big..I did have to get a pack of undies and 2 pair of capris and 3 shirts for the summer. I'm not planning on buying anything else until these things are falling off I want to save the BIG shopping spree until I'm closer to goal -
I was just looking on Craigs list an ebay at exercise equipment for when Im ready to purchase something. I see a lot of Golds Gym ellipticals for sale and am wondering why....is it just because most people buy the equip and never use it? Or is that a bad brand? I thought I read on here where a couple people didnt like the Golds Gym brand. What do you guys think about getting used equipment? Is it better to just invest in something from a retail store? Just looking for some thoughts

I dont know if this is the right place to put this post, but today at work I almost fainted. SOOO embarrassing. We're talking, right in the middle of ringing up a customer at the store I work, I got tunnel vision, weird noise in my head and could barely make it off the sales floor before collapsing on the floor. I didnt actually faint, but I was sweating profusely, like dripping, and my hands and legs were shaking so bad, I had a cup of water in my hand and water was spilling out of it. A few minutes before this happened, I started getting warm, and really felt thirsty. This was only the 3rd real day of me working, and the 1st time I met the manager so I feel like a complete and utter ass. I'm still not feeling that great. Has this happened to anyone else before? I'm wondering if I'm a little dehydrated? I went to a Zumba class this morning from 8-9. Had cheese and crackers on my way to the class. Then around 1130-12 I had 1/2 a tuna sandwich. I didnt have anything else to eat after that. The incident was around 4ish. I only had about 20oz of water. Could it be from my lack of food or drink? God I never want to have that happen in public again!

Make Me Feel Better!
MKambalimath replied to mrsflyboybs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont think you stretched your pouch after one time. As far as I know, it takes repetitive over eating for it to stretch. If you just continue to follow your program you will be fine -
Fainting?!?!?
MKambalimath replied to MKambalimath's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does low blood sugar mean exactly? Is that where you need to drink something like orange juice? I'm not up on medical things :/ I ended up going out of town so I didnt call my Dr, but maybe I should anyway. -
I went to my first Zumba class tonight and I was SO excited. Ive seen all the ads on TV for it and have heard how much a lot of people LOVE it. Well, I felt like a complete fool. 1st of all, going by myself kinda sucked. 2nd, I didnt realize quite how UN-coordinated I am, lol. I had absolutely NO idea what was going on 90% of the time. It totally kicked my ass though, which is good. I was going to do some extra cardio after the class, but had to go home because I was sooo whipped. For Zumba lovers, will this get better for me? How long did it take you to get all the steps down? Also, a kind of NSV, I was able to beat the helliptical yesterday by doing 10 minutes, lol. Before my best time was 6 mins

I don't know why its such a big deal honestly. I mean, I get that they don't want to give you the cheaper kids meal, but if you've had surgery and you tell the people that there's really no reason they cant do it. You're paying for what you eat either way, they should be happy you're willing to pay for a kids meal rather than eat a little off someone elses plate. At least this way they're getting a little more money. I don't have a card, but I haven't had any problems when I've gone out to eat with my family. I don't expect the world to revolve around me, but I've worked in the rest industry and know that its not a problem for them to do those kinds of things, I mean, people order weird things all the time, usually its because someone doesn't WANT to.
