It could be. Have you already had surgery?

Pre-Op diet to lose 5-10 pds

Jenny, I feel great! Had surgery on 26 Mar, spent one night in the hospital, back to work half days that Thursday and Friday then flew to Vegas that Sunday for a week. Back at work now full time. Occasionally I feel tired, but I think it is more from not getting enough protein. I am down 1 - 2 pounds a day since surgery and am going back to the gym tonight after work. I still feel a little discomfort in my shoulders and a little tenderness around the right incision from where they pulled the stomach through.

    Hernias

I had heartburn that I wrote off to being obese and eating greasy foods, but didn't have heartburn everyday or couldn't sleep because it was so bad. My surgeon said it was huge and I could have had it since birth.

    Hernias

I didn't know I had a hiatal hernia until my surgeon was performing the sleeve. He fixed it while in there. I had no clue.

Pre-Op diet to lose 5-10 pds

I had to lose 15 pounds before surgery as a requirement from my insurance company. I met with my dr. once a month for six months to discuss diet, exercise, etc. It was a very long journey, but finally had surgery two weeks ago.

Pre-Op diet to lose 5-10 pds

    Protein shakes.
  7. Has anyone tried quinoa post surgery? How did it settle? I haven't tried it yet. I'm on my soft foods stage. Thanks! Christi

    Has Anyone Tried Quinoa?

Great! Thanks so much. I am anxious to try it in a few weeks. I tried grits last week and they did not go down very well. Scrambled eggs took a while as well, but I also had a hiatal hernia repaired when my surgeon was in doing the sleeve.
  9. You could try to appeal to the insurance company...why did they disapprove?
  10. I was told at my pre-op that throwing up is never normal. May be a stricture? Does food seem to get stuck on the way down?

    shoulder pain

The same thing happened to me. I am two weeks post op today and still have a little pain in my shoulders when I take a deep breath. Sounds pretty normal to me. Walk, walk, walk and sip water. It really helps.

    Jamba Juice?

Had surgery on 26 Mar and I'm heading to Vegas next week for spring break. When out, would an occasional Jamba Juice be okay? How many grams of sugar is it suggested we stick to on the full liquid diet? Thanks.
  13. Maybe try taming down the spice until you train yourself not to drink right after meals???
  14. Are you eating things with a lot of sodium or spicy things?

Sleeve or Plication? Scared to death and nervous.

I don't know anything about the plication, but I had the sleeve done on Tuesday, 26 Mar and went back to work half days 2 days later. No complications, no issues, no leaks. I had to ask myself what I was willing to sacrifice to finally get off the roller coaster of weight loss, weight gain, weight loss over my life. I am 46 and would do it again in a heartbeat! Just starting my weight loss journey and so excited for the outcome!!! Good luck.
  16. Even though there was NO chance I could be pregnant, because I still ovulate, I was required to do a urine pregnancy test day of surgery.
  17. Surgery was Tuesday, 26 Mar. Today is 3 days post op and I have to say I feel great! I was back to work part time yesterday and today. On full liquids and everything is staying down. Stomach cramps are lessening everytime I eat/drink and I have good energy. Gas is almost all gone from my chest and shoulders. Had a little diarrhea after eating some cream soup for dinner, but otherwise everything is staying down. No nausea, no vomiting. Wonderful experience. Life is good! Almost down to the weight I was when I had surgery. Now for the numbers to go down even more!!!!
  18. Colemon70, one of the things they told me in my pre-op about blood clots is to look for signs of one leg being more swollen than the other, It's not always red or painful, Have you been walking? Might want to call your Dr.
  19. I had surgery on Tuesday, went home on Wednesday at noon, worked half day Thursday and will tomorrow as well, I have a desk job and figure I can sit at work just as easily as I can sit at home and can get up and walk whenever I want to, Made the day go by faster and I saved leave!
  20. I had surgery on Tuesday morning, 26 Mar, released Wednesday after lunch, 27 Mar. Went back to work 1/2 day today, Thursday 28 Mar. I drank Crystal Light with unflavored protein powder this morning for breakfast and sipped water the rest of the day. I got almost 30 oz of water down which includes the Crystal Light. I drank a chocolate whey protein drink with water this afternoon. I had a massive hiatal hernia my surgeon fixed while he was performing the sleeve. I think that is why heavier liquids aren't going down very well for me just yet. Tried a homemade Rootbeer float recipe from the full liquid recipe suggestions, but it didn't go down very well. I didn't gag or throw up, but the liquid did get stuck and I had to walk and take deep breaths. The gas pains across my shoulders are gone and I am actually passing gas today (yeah!) Still some stomach cramps when drinking water and I tried pre-packaged sugar free jello that made my stomach cramp, but tolerable. Going to get some more unflavored protein powder. It's the best with Raspberry Crystal Light. The hospital gave me a velcro girdle to wear home...what a great device to keep everything tight and stable. Only took pain meds once today. Got on the scale yesterday and was up 9 pounds. Haven't weighed today, but still gassy. Maybe this weekend. Incisions are healing nicely, no leaking. Started a gummi multi vitamin and chewable calcium. Thanks Dr. Cottam and the nurses at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah for taking such good care of me. More to follow! Christi
  21. I can hardly believe that after all the waiting and all the insurance requirements that SURGERY IS OVER!!! I went to the OR at about 1000 yesterday morning. Surgery took a little over an hour as my surgeon found (his words) "a huge a@@ hiatal hernia!" which he repaired. As I woke up in recovery, the most discomfort I felt was in my back and across the top part of my chest due to gas. I know people have said it before, but WALKING REALLY, REALLY HELPS. I was up walking as soon I could stand without falling over. Thanks to my 17 year old son, David for being my walking buddy! Woke up about every hour through the night. No abdominal pain, just gas discomfort. Only was allowed ice chips through the night. BRING LIP BALM with you to the hospital. At 0600 this morning I was allowed a cup of chicken broth then when the cafeteria opened I got lime Jello and the best tasting Krystal Light Protein drink. It is Raspberry flavored with unflavored Protein powder added. The two best things here (other than my son) are the electric compression boots (fill with air every few minutes and then decompress) and the girdle you get to take home. It velcro's around your middle for extra support. I just went down to radiology for a leak test. It's very cool. You stand in front of an e-ray machine and drink this thick, white liquid and watch it go down the esophagus to the stomach! No leaks, yeah!! All in all, I am super pleased with the surgery and my surgeon (Dr. Cottam) at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. Thanks Dr. Cottam for another satisfied patient!! After a full liquid lunch (think I'll opt for some sugarfree icecream for dessert) then home. Remember, lip balm, lots of walking and sip, sip, sip! Best of luck to all. Christi

    Leak

The surgical center I am going to have never had a leak in the 8 years they have been doing sleeve surgery. It's very, very rare. I agree, fever over 101 is an indication of something...not necessary leak, but something. Good luck. My surgery is tomorrow morning.

    Former (or current) band folks

I would love to hear what hoops you had to jump through to get insurance to approve a revision. My daughter had the band a year and a half ago. She lost 60 lbs right away, but stalled. We haven't been back for a band check/fill in a year. She still can't eat much at each sitting and only eats maybe twice a day. She also has PCOS. Had we known, we would have pursued sleeve or RNY. Advice?

    APPROVED....but have a question

I agree. You should tell them because if the situation were reversed, you would want to know. When you tell them, let them know that you have support and not to worry about you.
