Maybe you'll think I'm nuts, but I've always liked fat people. I felt like we shared a common misery and that they would be easy to connect with because they had suffered as I had and knew the cruelties of others as I did. Weird how we all have radically different views!

Oh, and they didn't need the machine, just the mask. As a funny little aside, I forgot the cap to the mask because I had washed it in the morning and left it on the sink to dry. I couldn't believe my stupidity! I asked a friend (who had just left me 45 minutes before) if she would get it for me. I told her I thought I left it on the sink. She agreed and drove the 40 minutes (in torrential rain) back to the hospital. I was relieved and oh so grateful because I was already so anxious post surgery. Well, she took out the cap and to my complete horror it was a bottle cap from a water bottle she held out to me (obviously she's not a water bottle drinker). At first I thought she was kidding, but when I saw the look on her face I knew she wasn't. This wonderful friend went back to the house (in torrential rain again) She found the cap under a washcloth I had thrown on top of it and brought it back to me (in torrential rain again!) What a nightmare, though we laugh about it now!

For me, the same as "CoolBreeze" above. They ask that you bring it with you to use after surgery for sleeping. They also watch your breathing a little more closely in recovery, however I did not need to use the mask until I was moved to a room.

Oops forgot to answer your question! I also would pick someone with 10 or more years of experience and can relate to pain, anger, loss, joy and sorrow in a truly empathic way. Not all therapists are deeply introspective and many have not seen the inside of a therapist's office! My personal bias. Adequate training is good but you can't beat experience, IMHO. (No offense meant to youngsters!)

I think you're smart to consider seeing a therapist. I am amazed at the feelings that have emerged because I cannot stuff them down with food. And I'm a clinical social worker! Physician (or social worker in this case) heal thyself!!!

I don't know what it is for you but for me it was gas. Incredible gas pain; lots of gas-ex strips relieves it somewhat. I don't remember ever carrying gas in my back so at first I was alarmed! Better now. Good luck!

How Much Weight Did You Gain In The Hospital And How Long Did It Take To Lose?
adele12 commented on dpeeler28's blog entry in dpeeler28's Blog
18 lbs in the hospital....also demanded lasix; freaked out when I saw the weight gain! Lost 11 after the lasix in the hospital, the rest in the next 3 days when I was home. -
Doesn't sound crazy at all to me! I have the exact same reaction, but could find no info about it. I need to take a nap after each meal, even if it's just 15 minutes. I'm four weeks out; hope it ends soon! My nutritionist said she'd never heard of it; that maybe as the blood rushes to your stomach as it does after a huge,( ie. thanksgiving) meal causing the need for a nap; that the body reacts the same to the smaller full stomach. Kind of makes sense, I guess...
