I am a hispanic female, 42 y/o, mother of two handsome teenagers. I am engaged to my highschool sweetheart Jay. I reside in Philly. I have been interested in this surgery for a long time but scared of the outcome for numerous reasons. One, I was afraid of adding digestive problems to my already existing issues. Two, I was afraid of looking older. Three, I am deathly afraid of failure. So many people where I work have had it done and so many of them are failing. I have done sooooooooooooooo much research and have been pretty much obsessed with getting as much info as I can about the surgery. I like to talk to pre and post op patients because there are different opinions and experiences from everyone. My original surgery date was August 7th but I changed it to October 9th for personal reasons. I can't wait but at the same time I am nervous. I have support from my immediate family and friends. Certain individuals don't want me to do it. It sucks to be them! Success to me will be the day the dr states "no more insulin for you and lower dosage of all other medications or eliminating them all together." I can not wait!!! Take care all and good luck! Oct. 31 Update!

Guess what?! I had it done and I don't regret it! I went to my first post op appt. 9 days post op and was already 24lbs down and the surgeon took me off of insulin and one of my diabetic pills. He told me if I continue to follow his instructions, I will succeed and he will take me off of more meds. I am so excited and feel great. Today is my first day back to work and I received so many compliments, hugs, and encouragement. God is great! He put Dr. Ram in my path and I am so happy I followed through with it 100%. To all, keep your eye on the prize, keep your head up. I saw this phrase in my surgeon's office, so true!
