tracy226 replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
you were banded in march and have already lost 74 lbs? THATS WONDERFUL!! My Dr wanted me 2 do a 2 week pre surgery diet, just said to lose what I could and shrink the liver. I have not done any good at all this first week!!! :phanvan I guess knowing no more after the 18th.....? So I'm going to have to completely behave from here on out. My surgery date is 6-18 so I have one more week. I wonder why some requite liquid and some just say any way you can? -

For the pre op, do most Dr's basically want you to do the liquid diet like we do after surgery? -
Perhaps a dumb question?

I've wondered the same things. I've also wondered if theres anyway it could have anything to do with weather or not you did the pre op diet. I'm just trying to figure out if theres something that makes it worse on some people because some have it bad, some a little, and some dont have it at all. Had me wondering if the ones who didn't suffer the gas pains did something different without realizing it. -
I have finally heard the good news that I have been aproved and I'm going to the pre op class Tuesday! From what I can understand this is my last step before schedualing surgery. Does this sound right? How long is it usually between approval/pre op class and the surgery. I'm getting very excited but scared too. I started wondering if I should reconsider and go for the bypass but after making time to sit down and catch up on some lapband.com posters, I feel I was making the right choice to start with, with the band Whats next? How much longer?

Good luck!! Can't wait to hear from you! Hope all goes well :myscared:

I'm in the same position you are. I take 1 325 mg asprin a day. I had a hole in my heart which they repaired with a cardioseal implant and I was on coumidin for about 5 years. A year after my surgery showed to be successful they took me off of coumidin due to the dangers and put me on asprin. Now here I am??

I'm getting concerned about down time! I have 2 kids at home who cant drive but are very active in sports ect, my husband works, and my parents live out of town. I know its different for everyone but on the average, how bad is it and how long is the recovery time till you can get around a little bit?

Thats good to hear! Thanks!! Now hopefully I wont have any complications!

Thanks so much! I could use a few days off lol but a few weeks...no way! We're self employed and I'm the one who takes care of the paper end of it! But I guess I am in a better position than you are. My kids are 16 and 14 so they can do for theirselves and for me my concern is their games and practices and my work. Hopefully I wont be down for too long!

I Have my date, but I'm confused, needing advice

I Love mexican  but I think I'll be ok. Another thing I think about is with the weight coming off slower I'm hoping to be able to firm more as I go! There have been a few cases that I know of where the patient lost about 45/50 lbs in the 4-6 weeks before the first fill then it slowed down. I hear everyone is different. Thanks everyone for your replys!!!! I'm sticking with the band. :clap2: -

Im so confused :help: I have researched forever, I thought I knew what was right. I thought I knew what I was doing. I still like the fact that the band is reversible if there are problems and not as major as the the bypass. I dont like the malobsorbtion (spelling?) of the bypass, and yes I hate the way I look and want to lose for appearence, I never had weight probs until after my 3rd child 14 years ago.And I always feel bad because of the weight. But most importantly I NEED to get the weight off due to health issues! My Dr. does and supports both surgeries. But he has picked up on my confussion and told me to think about it and make sure because the bypass will make me behave and it is faster and the band will take a lot of effort from me. He don't want me to go through surgery and not be happy with my results. He will support which ever I choose but wants me to be successful and satisfied. I have my date. I get banded on 6-18! If I stay with my decision I'm fine! Just need to schedual my pre op test and start my diet in 1 week, if I feel I need to go with the bypass then I need to re-submit to my insurance to see if they will approve. HELP  -

Your right and I've seen that happen too. I know a few of people who have succeeded with the bypass some have had a few problems, some are gaining it back. I know one person who had the band and was successful but it kinked and she had to have it removed. She regrets nothing and wants the Dr to put one back it. -

Don't we have to do all of those things with either surgery? So why take the risk with bypass right !? -

I agree and I really think he is ok with the band, I just think he's picking up on my concerns. My problem is eating too much and for the wrong reasons which either surgery should restrict. But I also love sweets which the band can tolerate and the bypass can't. BUT I want the weight off so I don't think I'll have a problem. My instinct is saying band  -
I've never heard of it but we haven't discussed bands or sizes. I really should have asked but from what I've heard they decide what size you need when they get in? and I didn't know to ask about a new type. Sounds exciting! I get banded on June 18 so I'm very curious  Glad to hear your feeling better and with better restriction and good luck!

tracy226 replied to tracy226's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, everything helps! Hadn't heard about the free 100 but I knew that it comes off faster and without will power. Don't get me wrong here, I love the thoughts of the band. Thats why I'm here. Less complications, reversible, no cutting, less recovery time, no malabsorbtion. My mind was made up! I hate the thoughts off being cut, complications are more serious, the dumping, if you have health problems then thats too bad because its permanent. But at the same time, if I had a lot of long term will power to watch what I eat I wouldn't be overweight and I'm hearing that you have to have so much will power to succeed with the band. The Dr's just concerned that I'm going to go through surgery and then be dissatisfied. -
I got my surgery date! I get banded on 6-18-07 and I'm still wondering if I should go ahead with the bypass :help:
