  1. Please please google "vsg leaks" or read threads here on leaks. They are dangerous and potentially deadly. Pushing food too early is the leading cause. Stick to your surgeons plan and not your own plan. They are experts for a reason. Take good care of yourself and don't push it.

    Six Months Out

Try liquid protein only for a week and jump start your system again.

    August Sleeves?!

Sleeved Aug 6th and have lost 20lbs. I'm a slower loser but I started with a lower BMI of 34-35. I'm happy with my progress so far and started weight training this week to make sure I don't have loose skin!
  4. Didn't your surgeon give you post op instructions for what to eat each week? My guess is you definitely can't have food yet. My surgeon is less conservative than some and here's what I had to do: Week 1 - Clear Liquids only: add Protein shake on day 7 Week 2 - full liquids - includes yogurt and strained low fat cream based Soup Week 3 - 4 - mushy or puréed food - no beef or raw veggies You are most at risk for a leak weeks 1-6. Follow your surgeons instructions exactly and don't push the diet. I encourage you to search "leaks" in the forum and read how horrible they are.
  5. So I'm feeling excited to be freed from always being hungry and wanting more. I'm 5 weeks post op and went to a huge country concert last night. In the VIP lounge there was free booze (I had none) and a full buffet of southern comfort food and more. I was able to eat one shrimp, one bite of potatoes, one piece of cheese and a few bites of watermelon. It felt so good not to be a slave to my hunger! Woohoo!
  6. Google crockpot cream cheese chicken: Chicken pieces or breasts in crockpot Top with Italian dressing dry seasoning packet Melt low fat cream cheese in a pot with low fat cream of chicken soup. Pour over chicken and Italian seasoning mix 4-6 hours on low.
  7. It's pretty normal if you're only on liquids. Liquid protein in = liquid out, unfortunately. Once on solid food it gets better. But if you're on food too and still having the issue with your shake, try a different brand. You may be using one that doesn't agree with your system.
  8. I'm 5 weeks post op and doing ok other than the fact that I'm incredibly nauseous every morning for a couple hours. Any suggestions?
  9. What is a fast tab? Thanks for the advice.

    Slow Loser

I'm a slow loser too. Hang in there. The important thing is we ARE losing and we now have a permanent tool to keep it off. Plus, losing slowly means less saggy skin, so look at the positive.
  11. As the fat in your belly melts it releases a ton of estrogen = acne.

    Calling All Low Bmi (Ers)

I have the same stats as you and was sleeved Aug 6. I've lost 15 lbs in 5 weeks. It's slower than I had hoped but worth it. I'm never hungry and that is very freeing!

    Ot~Did You Know?

Gastric bypass is reversible in cases if extreme emergency and even then it has only a 50/50 chance of a successful reversal. All surgeons I spoke to said to consider it permanent.

    Strength

If you really truly think you can't say no to the pizza right now, then don't go. It's ok to say you're still recovering and not up for it. I avoided those situations for 3 weeks and it really helped me. You have to e our own best advocate and that means knowing your limits right now.
  15. My post op binder says 10% of sleevers get dumping syndrome.

    Pain Meds

I never needed them at home. I took Tylenol.

    I'm On The Other Side

I had the same thing. Warm liquids helped a ton. All I had was warm herbal tea and broth until day 6. It was all I could get down without pain. Oh and make sure you're sitting straight up or standing when you drink.

    Dead Taste Buds

You don't have to crush them after the first 2 weeks. And yes, it can affect your taste buds.

    14 Weeks Post Oo

Some people are just slow losers. Especially if you start with a BMI of 35 or less. I'm 4 weeks out, get all protein, vitamins and water in and I've lost 14 lbs. My surgeon said I can expect to lose 5-7 lbs a month at my weight. I'm thrilled with that because it's permanent if I do everything right. Average is 1-3 lbs a week, and that sounds like where you're at. Stalls are normal. Hang in there.
  20. Ginger tea is amazing for that.

    Post Op Diet

I was told carbs were ok if I kept it to 30 grams or less a day. Many of the Lean Cuisines are higher in carbs than you would think. I would just read the lables.

    For Real?

At first you will lose a lot of water. That's normal and then it levels off. Any time you cut out carbs and sodium, your weight will drop quickly for a little while and then adjust accordingly.
  23. My doctor cleared me to start lifting/training as comfortable at my 4 week post op. He said you can lift a VW bug, if it doesn't hurt. If something hurts, wait a week and try again. I was cleared for cardo at my 10 day post op.

    Protein Question-5 Days Post-Op

I finally tried Premier Protein drinks from Costco and find them easy to get down. They are 30 grams each.
