Rate the pain post op 1-10.. And why?

See, I always thought I tolerated pain well, but compared to what I'm reading, I'm a wimp! My pain post op was 8-9. I was begging for drugs. On meds I was around a 4-5 and when it was time for another dose, I was around a 7. Now today, three days post op, I'm close to a 5 when the meds wear off and around a 2-3 with drugs. It still kills to get up and down from a seated position, and I can't bend over or stretch. I get a terrible burning sensation at the incision sites, as well as a deeper, more gut wrenching pain around the area where the drain was (I'm assuming this is where the doc pulled my stomach out as well). I'm feeling better today than any other day, so I'm hoping that tomorrow will be even better and I'll continue to recover quickly. I can't wait to sleep on my side again!

    Why the ban of caffiene?

So it sounds like I can maybe eventually add coffee back, once I get my Fluid intake to a good place. That is a relief! Now how about beer? I'm not a big drinker, but I do enjoy a lager once in a while...

    Any Pennsylvania Sleevers?

I'm in Reading as well, just sleeved on 12-27-12.

    Constipation!

I haven't gone since I was sleeved (three days ago) but I don't want to, anyway. I'm afraid any kind of pushing will hurt my incisions. I had to cough a little yesterday and thought I might die from the sharp stabs of pain.
  5. I think I came home a day too soon. I've been trying to get up and walk, but sometimes the pain is too bad. I was wondering if I can use a heating pad on my tummy? Any other suggestions to help relieve pain? It gets so bad when I'm due for a dose of pain meds. PS I'm two days post-op

    I dont feel good (help?)

Mostly when I move. I think I'm starting to figure out what the different pains are and that makes it easier for me to withstand, weird as that may sound. I'm glad to hear I may be feeling better by tomorrow. Day 2 definitely stunk.

    I dont feel good (help?)

Right now, I'm in my bed with the support pillow (I've always called it a "husband") and three pillows propping me up, and another two under my knees. I didn't want to have to keep climbing stairs to use the bathroom, so I thought this would be better. I called my doc and he has me taking half doses of Vicodin every two hours instead of full doses every four. It's probably mental, but that seems to be helping some. I'm going to go walk the hallway again a few times and see if I can get some of this gas moving. I don't know why, but I never suspected I'd be in so much pain afterward. I was doing pretty good until they removed the drain yesterday. Now the pain near that incision is dreadful! I keep telling myself I'll feel better tomorrow. How long before you all started feeling a bit better?

    Newbie

Hi, I'm Sara. I've completed all my classes (6 months) and was rejected. I just completed another three months and I'm waiting to hear if my insurance will go through this time. I'm only 36 but my health is suddenly deteriorating. I always enjoyed good health despite my weight but now I am struggling with diabetes, high cholesterol, and my arthritis doc says I'd be a candidate for a knee replacement if I were older. This has to stop! I hit an all time high weight of 298 and I'm afraid I'm just going to keep going up and up. I am so tired of food and eating. I'm sick of it being such a hassle. I want to eat to live, not live to eat. I'm also very nervous about the surgery. I like to drink with my meals. I'm a huge drinker ... I mean that in a non alcohol way ... And I'm nervous about choking on food if I can't drink while I eat. And I just found out I won't be able to drink beer. I'm not a big beer drinker, but I like to have a brew when I'm at a soccer game. I'm afraid I'll miss that beer. I went 30 years without drinking beer so I don't know why I'm worried about it now LOL I could use any and all advice and guidance. Thanks!

Success! I'm currently in the hospital, fourteen hours post-op. I wish I could have something to drink, but otherwise I am doing very well. They let me get up and walk the hallways earlier. It felt good to be up. Now I just have to tell my mother what I've done. I waited until afterward because I didn't want her to try and talk me out of having the surgery. Meds are kicking in. Going to sleep now...
  10. I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. Thank you for the advice. I'm hoping for mine in September.

So I was denied again. We did everything the ins co asked and still they denied me. They want another three months. Maybe by September...
  12. I don't know what kind of enema you've tried, but a warm, soapy enema sometimes works where a fleet enema does not. Good luck!
  13. Just read at least two different people who experienced large losses of hair post surgery. Is that common? Any way to keep it from happening?

    Small Rant

I'm not telling my mother either, until the deed is done. I know I'll hear all the ways I could lose without WLS. But if that were true, I would have already been thin these last ten years! I will likely tell her after the fact though, since I somehow always end up telling my mother everything.

Thank you for the support. Unfortunately I was rejected because I didn't attend my classes monthly. I work an odd schedule and every once in a while I would have to skip a month and reschedule for the next month. My ins company said it had to be six consecutive months. I've been in this process for over a year now, so yeah, it's a little frustrating, but I know my knees will thank me for it.

    New to group

I'm Sara, I'm 36 and have four children : 2 boys, 2 girls ages 18, 15, 13, & 10. I haven't told my kids at all, and I don't think I will because they're such blabber mouths. I don't need the world to know I've had WLS. At first I wanted to lose weight for my vanity. Now I need to lose weight for my health. Id be so happy to have "normal" knees! Looking forward to getting to know you all.

    Its Your Period Dummy!

Interesting side effect. I had a uterine ablation two years ago so I wonder what will happen for me. I still get a period but it's usually extremely light and only lasts two or three days. I hope this doesn't send me back into the hell of having a heavy period.
