Dress looks wonderful on you! -
Count me in for October! I need some motivation desperately. I'm Kathleen or Kat. Nice to meet everyone.

I swear by the Hanky Panky Retro Thong. The band totally holds in the tummy and zero panty lines. They are especially great with workout clothes like fitted leggings and yoga pants. I would never wear thongs before, but now wear these every day. The look and feel great. http://www.hankypanky.com/Signature-Lace-Retro-Thong

I so wish I had negative reactions to eating things we shouldn't eat. I totally have a sleeve of steel too. Have not gotten sick once since surgery. -

Still about 25-30 pounds from goal. -
I'm a big fan of the Gap legging jean. They're relatively inexpensive and were 30% off just this weekend. I wear them several times a week in different washes and even colors (the bright orange ones and white ones are my favorite along with my go to super dark wash) with anything from a tshirt to a tunic to a fitted blouse and jacket. I'm an apple shape, but these are cut very straight in the waist and have a nice amount of stretch so there's no muffin top issue. Globetrotter has a good point about leg to body length ratio. I have quite long legs so I wear my skinny jeans with flats and sandals. I love how they look with a wedge espadrille or sandal as well. The little heel (2.5-3 inches) will make your legs look miles long regardless of size. In my opinion the only time skinny jeans look bad on someone of any size is when they wear a tight top with the tight skinny jean. That is not a good or classy look on anyone. It's all about balancing the skinny jean with the right top.

I'm a big fan of the tall decaf nonfat latte. Have one every day. I love them and the 10g of protein helps me meet my daily goals.

Yoga is amazing for the body and mind. When you're just starting out, I highly recommend a Hatha or Iyengar class because these will teach you about proper breathing as well as the proper way to do poses. Most studios will also offer Yoga for Beginners workshops or classes, which are great as well. You really want to avoid going to a class geared for more experienced people and just watching what they do because a lot of people do a lot of things wrong and you don't want to hurt yourself by picking up their bad habits. Once you learn about breath and the common poses, experiment with different types of classes. I take a variety of hot and non-hot classes regularly. My favorite is Baptiste Power Yoga. It's basically hot Vinyasa, which is a flow based type of yoga and not as rigid and repetitive as Bikram. I also agree with the other advice on investing in a good mat and a mat towel for hot classes and using props as necessary. Also, don't compare yourself to others in class. Yoga is all about listening to your body, not competing with or comparing yourself to others. The not competing/comparing was the hardest for me to adapt to initially because I'm extremely competitive by nature. But once you let that go, you really open yourself up to all yoga has to offer. Namaste.

Bye-bye Lane Bryant!
newkat12 replied to cantwaittolose's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Such a wonderful feeling! I felt the exact same way when just last week I had to go shopping so I had something to wear to a 4 day training class I'm in this week. I did all my shopping at Banana Republic and Ann Taylor. Breezed right by Lane Bryant. I've never been so happy. Also cleaned out my closet of everything that was too big for me, hence the reason for the shopping trip. I literally had no business casual type clothes that fit. -
Great work!

Vets, can you ear 1 taco or only a few bites?
newkat12 replied to Diamondeyed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a vet by any means as I'm only 3 months post surgery, but i thought you might like this perspective as well. I had a hard shell taco from Taco Bell last week while I was out running errands and ate about 1/2. I might have been able to eat more, but that looked like about 3 ounces, which is what I'm supposed to eat each meal, so I just stopped. Knock on wood...but thus far I've not slimed or thrown up and I want to do everything in my power to keep it that way. -
No Chalk: Smooth Protein Drinks
newkat12 replied to almosthome's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The only ones I've been able to stomach since surgery are the GNC Total Lean RTD shakes. They have 25 grams of protein and 6 carbs. I tried a huge variety of the powders and just couldn't get past the texture and/or grittiness of them. I'd like more variety in my protein, but got tired of wasting money on powders I couldn't tolerate. Luckily, I only drink one shake a day so it's not too bad. -

My hair loss is no more or less than usual so far. Of course I expect that to change any day now. I even had 5 inches cut off my hair as a precautionary measure. -
Amazing! Congrats!!

I'm so with you. It is remarkably freeing to not be "on a diet" for pretty much the first time since I was 12 years old. I've been on vacation all week and have been making good choices for the most part, but have also had a little bit of anything I wanted all week. I am positive I will see a loss when I get home tomorrow as several of the new pieces of clothing i bought just a week before the trip turned out to be too big by the time i wore them. I truly feel normal when it comes to eating for the first time in my life, which makes me unbelievably happy. -
I used Dr. Diaz at St. Vincent Hospital. He and the hospital were both great!
