Eating two days post op
Chris P Bacon replied to girlrfriday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you say eat are you eating solid food? I was on clear liquids for a week and then full liquids for another week after surgery. Some doctors have different plans but I think the majority of sleeve patients follow a similar plan. -
averaging 2.85 # loss per week over last 8 weeks
Chris P Bacon replied to djcatoe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You and I seem to be losing at the same pace. I'd say that much weight loss Is damn good but try not to compare yourself to others. Personally I can't compare with the majority that post here because one, I'm a very tall guy and Although theres is a world of knowledge to be learned i need more calories than most of the ladies on this board and we lose at a different pace. And two I drink way more protein shakes and other supplements than a lot on this board because I want to gain muscle. But great job with the weight loss!! -
Is it realistic to not tell anyone I'm having surgery?
Chris P Bacon replied to lyndeeboo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't told anyone. I'm a pretty private person. Even on here with the few posts I have made I try not to divulge to much info about me personally it may be shocking to learn but my name is not actually Chris P Bacon!! (Shocking!!)Lol but really I go to the gym like 6 days a week and people see me there working hard and if anyone else questions ( I say question but really mean compliment, which on a side note i have learned that I am actually terrible at taking compliments ) my weight loss I just explain that I started taking my diet more seriously by seeing a nutritionist and eating a low carb high protein diet. That works for me and its not really a lie. I wish I was the type of person who could just tell everyone but that's just not how I'm built. -
Congrats. I was 450 on surgery day as well about one week after you and just hit 393 today! Keep up the good work my friend!

I also use the blister blocker and don't know if this actually works or not but I once had an old football coach tell me to wear my socks inside out at the first sign of a blister because the little pieces of material in the socks rubs up and causes more friction. I have no clue if it makes a difference but I still do it to this day.

I had my surgery at RWJ and everything went very smooth. Good luck to you. -
Good luck to you! Those sponge mouth moistening things were a life saver. I am going on 7 weeks and have no regrets so far! Remember to walk and when you can get your fluids in.

Liquid diet cheaters
Chris P Bacon replied to jc4444's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drinking 4 to 5 protein drinks per day really did help me get through 5 weeks of liquid pre op diet. The protein kills your hunger pangs for at least twenty minutes and basically I just spaced them out threw out my day and just sucked it up between protein shakes. You can do this, no excuses! -

I agree with Pdxman. I was under the impression the liquid diet is not so much about losing weight as it is about shrinking your liver. -

Would you rather eat now or have piece of mind that you did everything you could to prepare for a successful surgery and smooth recovery? Personally I am not afraid to admit I was scared shitless of being operated on but I felt calm knowing my body was the absolute most prepared It could be. Now start fresh with a new attitude, punch today in the face, and quit eating ha. -
I aim for a minimum of 100 grams but I am also very tall. Without the proper amount of protein your muscles can break down and that is a big concern with me.

Im from NJ too. I was sleeved 2/5 at RWJ by Dr. Dobruskin. Everything was very smooth and I was able to get home the next day. Good luck to you

Refried not decried lol

I know exactly how you feel. I don't think I'll ever have any broth based soups for a loooong time. I don't have much advice on smoothies but I was never more excited for cream soups or tomato soups egg drop soup. But the biggest thing that saved me was pintos and cheese from Taco Bell it's like decried beans with cheese after the pre ip diet and clear liquids I would have thought this was from a 5 star restaurant!

Thanks. I will keep those in mind I am considering just hiring a trainer. I know I am going to need to take it slow I am however now realizing that I will need to get over the fact that I will not be as strong as I once was but in time I'm sure I can regain some strength. Another question you may be able to answer for me is on supplements anything you would suggest I look into? I tried asking the guy at GNC but I felt like he was just trying to sell me everything in the store than I come to find out he was in training and couldn't even use the cash register! Which made me think I should research a little more rather than take the gnc employees future recommendations. Aaronb - sorry I jacked your thread here lol but your before and pics are crazy just thought I'd let you know.

Hey thanks for replying Aroundhky. My gym goals are to really add as much strength and size as I possibly can. I realize that by eating 1200 calories a day I will never look like arnold but my whole life I have been a big guy so the idea of becoming rail thin really worries me personally. Currently I stand 6'6 and i weigh 400 even down from my surgery weight of 450 on 2/5. I am trying to research a routine I can follow as i dont want to jsut walk in to the gym and freestyle which exercises to do. Thanks in advance I have read most of your and other guys posts on here and would appreciate any insight you may have.

I have jsut been cleared to begin lifting. I have not lifted since highschool, but i have worked construction most of my life and am not and never have been a very weak guy. Any advice on a routine I should start with? I am looking through these websites you guys mentioned but hearing it first hand from someone in the same boat as me would be very informative. Thanks!

My surgery bill came in the mail the other day. The total bill came to almost 90k! I had to pay 2500 after insurance but I look at it as an investment in myself.

lost 100 lbs as of this morning
Chris P Bacon replied to Kim Ster's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Great job! -
Ha it sounds dumb but this was something that worried me as well. Luckily my surgeon told me that so many bring this concern to her that she stopped using them for men. At least that's what she told me, for all I know they coulda put one in and took it out before I woke up.

Incisions not inspections lol
-
I showered the day I came home. I wrapped Saran Wrap around my inspections so they didn't get wet. I needed to get the funk off and begin to feel normal. Best of luck to you man!

Have you ever felt like someone has been watching you? Well, it has been me! I have been lurking in these forums now for over 9 months and I figured it was finally time I said hello. I have found these forums so helpfull as I move through this "journey" so Thank you. Well here is a little bit about myself. I am 29 years old, i stand 6'5" and my heighest weight was 490. Ugh just writing that makes me feel disguisted lol. I began my month long pre op diet on 1/1/13 at 480. Yes, you read that right 4 week pre op diet. It was pure hell but I stuck to it and lost 25 lbs! Then just when i thought the pre op torture was over, my surgery gets postponed a week! So I actually went 5 weeks of only Protein shakes but to be honest I took it very serious and went into surgery on 2/5 at 450 lbs. Surgery went very smoothe. Woke up and was walking within an hour. Honestly I thought it would be a lot more painfull. I had the usual gas pain but walking helped. So today at 3 weeks I currently weigh (Drrumroll please)...417. So thats 63 lbs gone forever! Soo before I bore you anymore I just want to once again say thanks to everyone who does post on these forums. I have learned a lot and think i might possibly be addicted to the search bar for looking up every thing under the sun. Good luck to everyone on here!
