Keeping Surgery A Secret.....
SML1997 replied to blessedbeauty85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still pre-op and have already told my immediately family, some of my friends, and even a few of my work peers ...oh and also my boss since I am going be off work for a little bit. Everyone has been very supportive. I am a district manager and I plan on telling the associates that work for me as well. Why not, they're going to ask anyway. Personally, I don't think it's anything to hide or be ashamed of and I feel that's how some people treat it. It's my opinion that the sleeve is a life changing procedure that can help a person achieve "long term" health. Also, I think it's ridiculous to have the "Star Jones" effect. Star Jones started dropping weight super fast, after years of struggling with her weight. Every time she was asked if she had WLS she would give one of her lawyer answers like "I'm am working hard to move my health into the right direction." Which doesn't say no, but also doesn't answer the questions. IMHO it made her look ridiculous. If she would have just said yes, and I did it to save my life people would have just accepted it and moved on. Although I understand that it's a personal choice to reveal your surgery to others or not. If someone ask whether or not I had the surgery, I will simply said yes.... I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy and it saved my life. And to me...that takes courage... . and that's something to be very proud of. -

Hey Mzluvee..I am right there with ya! I am so anxious to finish these appointments and finally know when I can get the surgery. Hopefully someone with experience from the corona area can come in here and give some insight. I finish my options class a couple weeks ago and my medical interview with Dr. Osano is this coming tuesday. I will let you know how that goes. I am hoping to be referred to Pacific Bariatric. My mom had surgery with PBSMG a couple years ago she's doing awesome.

Interesting Topic. I brought this up before in another forum not too long ago, but I really do think it's all about pre-WLS relationship happiness and ... Options. Let's just face it.... in the world we live in... if you're obese and do not like how you feel or look, people often settle with the options that are in front of them. However, as you lose weight those insecurities began to decipate and you become confident, and begin to feel good about yourself inside and out...so you attract more.... thereby expanding the amount of Options you have. So if you're unhappy in your relationship, and you have more Options after you lost weight, you're probably going to take the opportunity to go with the other options, if their current situation is not ideal. However, I think that if you made a committment like marriage, you should work hard to maintain that committment, before simply giving into your "other" options. Just my take on it.

Hello All... I Am New To Vst And Just Starting My Journey :)
SML1997 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, I am a 33 year old male and I live in Riverside, Ca. I've been lurking on here for while, reading very insightful posts, and gaining a lot of knowledge. I am a District Manager for a well known retailer and it certainly takes most of my time and attention. This year I've decided to make myself the #1 priority and give myself the needed attention as well. I am in the Kaiser Options program in Corona and actually just finished my final class today. I am very excited, but also the whole concept of getting the sleeve certainly cemented today after finishing my final class. I have my Medical Interview Appointment on 7/10/2012 which will determine if I am referred for the surgery. Having said all that.... I am very happy to be a part of this forum and looking forward to gaining even more knowledge as I continue this journey. Hope you all are doing well in your journeys! -
That's very exciting. Good luck to you in your new journey!!!
