What To Expect When Waking Up From Surgery
ponderingLB replied to Joy1961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all I had my lap band placed yesterday... Coming out of anesthesia I was cold, and groggy but in no pain. I was able to walk around, drink etc. what I couldn't do was urinate and that delayed my discharge. They wanted me to produce at least 200 ccs and i could barely manage a few dribbles. It was almost like I forgot how to do it. I needed to go I but nothing wold come out. Finally after many attempts I was able to go and get home. Now that I am home I feel some pressure in my chest and my incisions hurt if I don't take my pain meds on time but otherwise I am fine. Made breakfast, walked my son to his bus stop and all this morning. So far no gas pains either. -

Pre Op Exams And Xray
ponderingLB replied to nvnoemi23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same issue here. I am a single mom of a 6 year old scheduled for 10/08. I do have help but everyone will be coming in to help around their work schedules. If I have to stay overnight for surgery it will cause a big issue. Who is going to take care of him in the next morning and who will pick me up from the hospital? I am sure it will all work out but it just leads me to feeling like I'm being so selfish for doing this. I would reschedule but responsibilities with work would force me to reschedule to Feb 2013 at the earliest which I def do not want to do. I'm trying out shakes myself. Muscle milk light tastes poisonous to me. Gross. But gnc lean shake is pretty good in chocolate. I brought gnc amp wheybolic 60 which I hear is pretty good but I haven't opened yet. -

Thanks all! So reassurring! I just don't want to be that maniac grabbing strangers by the lapels screaming "I'm HUNNGRYYY" lol lol j/k I wouldn't do that to strangers but my fam is fair game! I am excited though! Whew hew! No more 50 dollar a month blood pressure med bills if ..scratch that... WHEN all goes well... TKW - Gotta love Miss Piggy!! -
I have a surgery date! October 8. But I am still nervous, nervous, NERVOUS!! Ok, question for the forum, how do you deal with hunger? Once the swelling goes down, without a fill, what stops you from overeating? I know the band is just a tool. I got it and I understand but then again I dont. I do not do well when I am hungry.. duh! Thats why every diet I have been on last about 24 hours. I am not talking about just the desire to chew on something or just eating because they left food in the break room. Thats never my problem because I am not much of a snacker. What I am talking about is TRUE HUNGER... stomach rumbling, shakiness, feel like your middle is hollow, hunger. Do you still get that with the band, even without a fill? I have been getting my chewy Vitamins, scales, measuring cups and smaller plates ready, but it just seems crazy that I could possibly be full enough to handle my daily responsiblities and exercising without keeling over. Any advice? .

Dvt means Deep vein thrombosis (ie blood clots in your veins) -
I definitely know my problem with eating is too much of a good thing. I dont eat "bad" but I eat more than the 1200 calories a day I need for weight loss. I know I am not perfect and have things I can change to help lose weight so I am trying everything I can now to see if it will help drop even 5 lbs before I make my decision. The lapband just seems so scary sometimes. Seems like when its working well its great but the issues that arise when it isnt working... boy oh boy. I would love to think I will be one of the people that will have no problems and its just smooth sailing but when I think of the other side of the coin, I go to the mirror, and say well its not like Im not cute now I am trying to fit in two more days of working out in my schedule. Its hard because I work two jobs also but whats money if I stroke out from my HTN. I am actually taking a little time off my part time job so that I have more time to sleep and work out, but I cant take too much time off because I need that second income... I will continue on my supervised diet because its the last thing I need to complete and research research research.. Lets just pray my fingernails survive all the nail biting :)

Hi all! I am currently on month 3 of my 6 month supervised diet before scheduling... The more and more I read about LB the more I wonder if it's the right avenue for me. My BMI is currently 36. I have hypertension that is currently controlled with two meds and a family history of diabetes. I have always been active and spin three times a week but I can not lose weight for anything. I eat right, drink lots of water. My weight has been pretty much stable my whole life. No big gains no big losses. I have had my thyroid checked, completely normal. I am only 34 and I don't want to be on life long medication starting at such a young age. That is what lead me to look to ways to assist in losing weight. I have no real desire to be "skinny" just healthy. I have tried diets but the moment I feel hungrier than my comfort zone that all goes to hell lol As a single mom, My life is hectic enough. My main fear is being "defined" by my LB. I don't want every waking moment to be spent thinking about food, chewing, pbing etc. is it possible after LB to just be a regular person who happens to have a LB? I am scared to exchange one set of problems for another. Quality of life is a concern for me. I don't want to ruin it just for weight loss if that makes any sense.
