Hi guys, I used to stalk this forum a lot when I was pre op. Due to insurance issues I was switched from the band to the sleeve just 2 weeks before surgery. I was ok with this as I knew there was a risk that if I had the band, I might end up with the sleeve eventually, due to complications. I don't have any experience with the band, as I didn't end up getting it, and am not trying to swing people over to the sleeve. I am posting on here to let you know that if circumstances change, if complications occur, if you are one of the ones that the band just isn't working for, the sleeve is not that bad and you can still have great results. I'm only posting this because the advice I got from here was invaluable when I was pre op and making my decision. I wanted to return the favour somehow. The band is a great tool, and for some, a great first step. If you find yourself having to take the 2nd step of revision to the sleeve, you have not failed and you can still expect great success. Good luck on your weight loss journey. 210lb Scars - 2 mo. post op.bmp 125lb. Surgery was on 13 August 2012.

NEVER eating a french fry again!
puppyphat replied to Alicia0022's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never buy my own portion of junk food and I don't bring it into the house. If I'm at a party or out with friends or family, I'll indulge in a little of theirs, or have some potato chips or cold meats, but I can now stop at 1 or 2, where I couldn't before. I am also at goal and working on maintenance. This makes a difference. -
I have to be honest, I was devastated when I was denied, I think that's why I switched to the sleeve so quickly. I didn't want to have gone through a year of planning and supervised dieting and everything else for nothing. I really hope everything works out for you this time and your surgery is a huge success. Good luck

I didn't receive the band. I was supposed to, and spent a lot of time researching it, here and elsewhere, however just 2 weeks before surgery, my insurance refused to cover the band. My surgeon and I found a loophole that meant they would cover the sleeve, and I had that instead. I'm 167cm or about 5"5'. I'm posting on here because I spent more than a year researching and deciding on the band and then only had 2 weeks to get my head around the sleeve. I believe the more info you're exposed to, the more prepared you are for this big lifestyle change.

Thank you for your public and private apology. Everybody should check out this clip and remember it everyday of their lives. Wise words.

A person who has been posting on my thread has been suggesting that if I don't like being insulted and offended by her nastiness, that I, and others should block her. I use my iPhone. Could you please help me by showing me, and others how to block?

Thank you.

I also live near parramatta, do you know what the topic is? -
Thank you so much for the KIND responses. When I was researching the band, there seemed to be quite a few people on here who had had revisions to the sleeve, and also others like me who wanted to compare the results for the 2 of them. I wish everybody the best success with their weight loss, and if anybody pre op would like to know anything specific about the sleeve, I'm more than happy to chat.

See "hot chip hangover" my thread on the EXACT same thing. So not worth it. -

Before is "it's my life" by Bon jovi, and I'm taking it back. After, my flab and I are "never ever ever getting back together" Taylor swift. We are broken up for good. Or "50 ways to say goodbye" by train, because I've kept the surgery a secret, I think I've told people about 50 different ways I've lost the weight. -

I haven't been to any of the seminars, but would really like to go. What is the next one and when? I'll make an effort to go to it. -
Yep, I do, heaps of it. I have worked super hard at this and have had a personal trainer from week 4 post op. obviously now I'm only losing 1/2 to 1lb per week, but I'm not trying to lose more at the moment. It just proves that over eating was 100% my problem and that bariatric surgery (any type) was the right choice for me.

I do. And actually, I think I'll head on back there. Good luck with your decision and your weight loss.

The Importance of Vitamin Supplementation!

My Gp has just put me on a 6 week course of b12 shots to help me recover from glandular fever. I'm really tired all the time, my legs and hips ache, I'm covered in bruises and my gums and nose bleed profusely. Some mornings I wake up and check my neck to make sure my throat hasn't been cut in the night, my pillow has that much blood on it. I have had the same plight as you, now finally going on b12 injections will hopefully help both of us. I have my 2nd one tomorrow. Good luck on Friday. -
25 and never had nice photos taken Never been night clubbing Never been to a wedding (could never find a date or a nice dress to wear) Never worn a bikini Never worn swimmers without board shorts and a rash shirt. The last one I did last week, still wore the shorts, but wore a very thin singlet top over my one-piece. Working up to just wearing the costume.

Oh and new little dilemma. (I know, my life is all drama) I've been single for about 2 years and I have a mutual attraction to one of the guys at work. He's great. Only problem is that he's an executive sous chef and is very passionate about good food. He's watching his weight and I health conscious which is good, but I really don't want to offend by not eating much of his food, also don't want to tell him about surgery just yet as no one else at work knows. I don't expect any advice, just thought it was funny that of all people, with all different occupations, I'm still attracted to a chef.

Bummer about the hormonal imbalances. I was lucky enough to have the implanon put in 4 months before surgery and have only had a couple of episodes of light spotting since surgery. Naprogesic and milo (high in iron) were my best friends before that. Bloods are all within normal parameters but doc has just put me on 6 weeks of vit b12 injections to try to boost my immune system and energy a bit. Not worried about the amount of weight lost, just how crazy fast it fell off. Said after 3 weeks of shots I should feel a lot better and be able to hit the gym again. Can't wait. So keen to meet up with all the Sydney people, pre and post op. will be great to see where everyone is at and have a face bigger than a postage stamp to put to all the names.

I lost 124 percent of my excess weight in less than 3 months. I am now nearly 5 months out and have lost 150 percent. Only 6lb away from being "underweight".
