    Possibly Dumb Question

I do have a coffee shop quite close to the school that I can stop at if I need to. 2 days After my appendectomy last year, my ex dragged me around Ikea for 3 hours. He thought he would need to call an ambulance by the end of it. I know not to push myself that hard again.

    Banned With Children.

I'm wondering the same thing. I have a 6 year old that I will need to get to and from school and generally tend to. She is actually tge reason I'm getting this done. I'm tired of being out of breath just from reading stories aloud.
  3. I allowed only optifast and water too. Pre surgery is any optifast product ie shakes, bars, soups and desserts.
  4. My dr was the opposite. I was leaning much further towards the sleeve, which he said he would be happy to do if thats what I wanted (he does approx 40% sleeves to 60% bands) but told me all the positives of the band and said how much better it would be for me. I trusted him and his recommendation. It comes down to trust. He felt that even though I qualified for the sleeve, it was too drastic for a 25 year old who wants to have more children.

    Chafing

If the lap band doesn't work in creating a little distance between the thighs, I'm looking into getting an avo. "Left thigh must stay at least 2inches away from right thigh at all times for fear of actual bodily harm".

Vacationing With People Who Don't Know

I know it's a lie. I know you shouldn't lie to your friends, but dammit, this is what I would do and you can do whatever you like with it. Before the next big cook up, like, right before, spend 15 minutes in the bathroom and go and lie down after. Tell them that you must have had a reaction to the rich food + the sun and the travel and you're just feeling run down. You just fix yourself something to eat and eat with them but don't eat what they're eating. You want to relax and enjoy your holiday and you're just not feeling very hungry at the moment. This is what I would do. I hope you find some tactics that work for you.

    Meals For 1

I know exactly how you feel. I live on my own with my 6 year old who is practically malnourished she eats so little (not really, but I never once forced her to clean her plate and she stops eating when she's full) so I'm pretty much just cooking for myself. My butcher does "singles" packs. It's a couple of steaks, a couple of sausages, some diced meat, some ground meat and some chicken pieces. You can choose if you want lamb beef or pork and if you want him to trim all the fat off. It's good for some variety. I'll make a small casserol, marinade the steak to make it ultra tender, make spag Bol, and curried sausages or something like that. You only make a small meal and there is little waste and you're not eating the same frozen meal 5 nights in a row.

    Sharp Pains!

I am being banded in just under a month, but had my appendix out less than a year ago using the same laproscopic technique. I remember feeling the worst pain, not from where my appendix was, but from my belly button, and although the pain went away, it was the only area of discomfort for some time. All the other scars have faded and gone but that one is still bright and raised and when it's cold it gets mega itchy. I'm hoping the lap band surgeon can use the same area so I don't have 2 scars, but at leSt I'm prepared for what it will feel like.
  9. Also, when I'm skinny, I'm going to get laser hair removal everywhere!!! To fat and embarassed to do it now.

Liquid Diet Pre And Post Surgery

For your health, safety and wellbeing before and after surgery, I pray that your dr is correct. Not just with diet but with after care, choice of anesthetist, placement of the actual band, etc. I know this doesn't answer your original question, but if your dr has given you any reason at all to doubt their ability, listen to your gut. Find a dr who you have faith in. Your life, and quality of it, is worth more than loyalty.
  11. I'm in Australia and my daughter's dance school is planning a US trip to dance at Disneyland over the Christmas holidays 2013/2014. I'm going to be skinny and go on every single ride with her, not need a seatbelt extension on the plane and be comfortable for the 14 hour flight. Can't wait.
  12. As anybody else suffered an obscene allergy to steri strips? When I had my appendix out I had 3 small incisions that were sealed with them and all became so sore, red and inflamed within 24 hours. I'd like to say it blistered but it was moss like welts as they weren't fluid filled. Most horrible itchy pain ever. I'm hoping the dr can use traditional sutures instead of the dressings. Has anybody else had a reaction or been closed with something otter than the strips? I'm assuming that suturing is the only alternative but I'm learning so much here I could be wrong.

    When Were You Ready?

In feb this year I bought a boxer x border collie puppy to motivate me to exercise and lose weight. I knew I had to because my work uniform was getting too tight and I refused to ask for a larger size (stuborness, embarrassment and denial). I walked that puppy 5km every single day for 4 months without losing a single pound. I realized that I am quite fit and can now jog with her, but my weight problem was not associated with a lack of exercise, it was to do with food. I find it hard to walk that distance, not because I'm out of breath, but because my ankles and knees ache. My feet swell up. My back hurts. IM CARRYING TOO MANY DARN KILOGRAMS!!! I got the dog as a motivational tool. That didn't work, so I'm trying another tool. Anybody want a puppy??? I'm joking. I can't wait to be able to run on cycle with her running next to me and me able to keep up with her.

    Snacks

For me, always unsalted. I am one of those bizarre obese people who lived for 6 years without salt and pepper in my house. I don't like salt at all. If you can't find them in the shell and unsalted try the health food aisle, or a health food shop.
  15. August 13th, less than a month away. Can't wait!!!

    Snacks

Love pistachios, and the best thing is that they take so long to peel it keeps you, your hands and your mind busy. If I'm on a work break that lasts 30mins, I'd be happy with them for that time instead of taking something out of a packet and eating it quicker and looking for something else. It forces you to eat slowly.
  17. For a while I've been tweaking recipes to be a little healthier for example french toast with wholemeal bread, egg whites and skim milk with cinnamon. A little low fat cooking spray in the pan is the only naughty ingredient. What are your new versions of old favorites?

    Healthy Versions Of "bad" Foods

I just made the spaghetti with turkey instead of beef, AMAZING!!! my daughter couldn't even tell the difference. I put a couple of tablespoons of red wine in, do you think that would be detrimental once I'm banded?

Vacationing With People Who Don't Know

If in doubt, you can always fall back on irritable bowel syndrome. A flare up can mean that you have to stay away from certain foods or you'll be on the loo for hours, will explain stomach cramps (if you're still a little tender), and people don't ask many questions about it. Let them know you have a funny tummy and are keeping a close eye on what you eat so you don't spoil your holiday.
  20. My dr asks for only optifast and water for 2 weeks prior to surger, but that includes the soups and bars, and he said if you are hungry you can have "natural" foods, ie unprocessed, but with no carbs. As I have already lost more than 20kg on my own by eating sensibly he said I could do it for 1 week instead. He said he wants to make the surgery as safe as possible. I'm buying it.
  21. I Know this sounds horrible and I will probably get some people that think I'm nasty, please note, my intention is not to offend. I'm fat. I know I'm fat. I see every single day how fat I have become and I hate it. I hate walking past shop windows incase I catch a glimpse of myself. I hate taking clothes into the fitting rooms at shops and giving them all to the store person because NONE of them fit. I'm being proactive and doing something about it. I am booked in for my band in 4 weeks, and I cannot wait, because I'm sick of being fat. I was serving a woman at work today who was easily twice my size, and as I said, I'm a big girl. She was sitting on 2 seats, having a lot of trouble walking and carrying her food and looked very uncomfortable. Her husband was the same. Going by my bmi, I'm guessing theirs were in the 60s. Their children were also not on the skinny side. My heart bled for that family. To see what a struggle life had become for them, I just wanted to tell them there are solutions out there. I did heaps of research before deciding on the band and I know there are options for people with a very significant amount to lose. Both parents were having difficulty breathing after walking approx 3 car lengths. I know it's not my place, and I know that somebody has to be ready to take control of their own health. I didn't say a word to the family. I couldn't. But I wanted to. Has anybody shared their "secret" with strangers? What happened in your own life to make you want to have surgery? My light bulb moment was when my daughter told me if I get any fatter I will have to wear old bed sheets as no clothes will fit me.

I Want To Tell Everybody About The Band!!

Thanks guys, I'm really happy with all to positive responses. I would absolutely never say to an overweight person "have you heard of lapbands" as that is so cruel and horrible and I would hate for someone to say that. I'm glad everyone got where i was coming from. The awkwardness of wanting to help, but not being able to. I agree that something has to click in their own head. I just hope this particular family gets the wake up call before they leave their children orphans.

    Ekg Question

It depends what is normal for you. I have extremely low blood pressure ie 90/60, but it has always been like that. When I had my baby the dr became very concerned when it was a normal 120/80, as this was high for me. Everybody is different and so long as your heart rate is generally that low, it's nothing to be concerned about.
