  1. Confession: I am 8 days post op and cannot move from thin liquids to purees until Monday when I see the dr and the nut, but I put a piece of salmon fillet in my mouth and sucked all the flavour out, then spat it out and put the rest in the bin. I felt so bad, but I really really miss normal food!!!
  2. After I had my daughter I couldn't tolerate milk. I could eat yellow cheese, not white cheeses like brie and camambert, and I could only eat yoghurt close to its use by date. This gave the good bacteria time to multiply and countered the effect of the lactose. I switched to lactose free milk like zymal and got over it after about a year. I've heard a lot of people have this same issue after the sleeve. I've heard that it resolves, just as mine did, for a lot of people. Good luck.
  3. And now I'm sitting on the lounge with 1/2 cup of bland as chicken broth and she goes and gets a spoon and starts "helping" me. The words swimming around my head, I would never say to her, but "p!$$off!!!"
  4. Getting very very frustrated at my 6 year old daughter. I Am a single mum and have been cooking her fantastic meals since I had my surgery (and before, for the last 6 years) and it is so hard to watch her be so damn fussy and not take a single bite of food when I'm stuck on crappy shakes day in and day out. It is so hard to serve up a beautiful piece of fish, with potatoes and veggies (that she liked last week, I might add) and have her refuse to eat it. The whole darn house smells of salmon and my tummy is GROWLING, and she won't take a bite. Usually i would eat her leftovers, but now I can't and it's such a waste. Plus I think I'm crankier because I'm hungry. Just needed to vent. I hate dinner times.

    The Food Misses Us

Lol to the gotye remix. You're version is heaps better.
  6. I haven't been since last Sunday. Surgery 8 days ago. Taking benefibre but nothing else yet. I'm not uncomfortable or feel like I have to go, just increasing the fresh fruit and vege juice. My nut says 1/2 cup fruit and 1 cup vege juice per day. I'm hoping that will help. Certainly not worried about dumping syndrome over here!!!
  7. My 2nd last day of work before surgery I was stopped by a woman I didn't know who said "oh, I thought you had the baby?!" to which I replied "I was never pregnant" with a very offended look on my face. I ran to tell all my colleagues how rude she was, it gives me the best excuse to come back to work skinnier and to lose more weight without raising suspicion. No1 at work knows about my surgery. When I go back, if anybody asked about the weight loss I'll just ask if I still look pregnant.
  8. I've gone from 204 to 180 in 7 days. Im not worried, I'm cheering!!!! I'm doing everything they say to do, so long as you keep your water up and do the protein thing, embrace it.

    Telling Family

I told my parents I was having the band, which I was, and they were very supportive. Then insurance knocked me back for the band, but I could still get the sleeve. When I told them about the stitch, they were dead against it, thought it was too drastic. A few days later, told them it had been a mistake, I was getting the band. I have been sleeved for a week. If they ever ask me which I have, I'll tell the truth, until then, there's no harm in them thinking I have the band.
  10. Hi, I was done on the 13th, so you're a bit further than me. "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels". I say this to myself whenever I want something I used to love, so about 237,000 times a day. I may just get it tattooed on my wrist, like a rubber band you snap when you think about it. Hopefully once we get to eating normal food, we find we don't want crap anymore, like some of the others here. Chin up. This too shall pass.
  11. Lol. My 6 year old daughter just told me its ok because it's my left hand and I "never use that one" The ignorance.
  12. I couldn't believe that I went into this, really quite, risky surgery, to get crippling pain from something so tiny that I've had a million times before. That is exactly how it feels, my ring finger, pinky and hand go between numb and pins and needles, my thumb, forefinger and middle finger are "asleep". I was crying last night from the pain in my wrist. It feels much better in the splint. So that's something positive. It didn't start being really painful until I was home, but it figures because I was on some pretty powerful pain killers while I was in. If this is my only complication though, I'm cheering!!!!
  13. A bit off topic here, but found out today that I may have nerve damage from the canula for the drip. My wrist has been throbbing since it was put in and have realized that I have very little sensation in my hand, nothing in my thumb and 1st 2 fingers. Went to my Gp today as I didn't think it had anything to do with the surgery and she thinks the hit a nerve. I had a local 1st so didn't notice right away, but the evening after surgery I was in pain and they changed the drip to the other arm. No dramas. Of all the bloody complications to get from this surgery, I get nerve damage from the bloody drip!!!! Have it in a rigid splint now until next week when I have a nerve study to see how bad it is.

    Am I Alone!?!?!

My surgery was 13 August too, I avoided watching tv for a few days as I was scared I'd want the food advertised, I found quickly that my mind was saying "that looks nice" and that's it. I didn't want it, I'm having to force myself to take the protein shakes and soups. I just don't want them. No mourning here.
  15. I'm taking the multi the clinic sold me, it's a chewable/ suck-able one that they say is complete. I'm going to get an iron supplement today. Recommend any?

"The world is changing very fast. Big will not beat small anymore. It will be the fast beating the slow." RUPERT MURDOCH I don't want to be big anymore, I want to be FAST!!!!
  18. I'm not really bothered by the extra calories of the milk ATM, today, my total calories consumed was less than 200. I'm just trying to boost my protein. I think I'll try mixing some yoghurt with milk tomorrow to make it runny and see how that goes down. My biggest problem is that I don't really want food and get fed up with the tiny sips. Really feeling the lack of energy now though so I know I have to try.
  19. My dietician told me that if I wasn't able to drink 3 shakes, to make them with low fat milk, that way I'm still getting good protein even if I'm only having 1ish. They taste Sooo much better with milk, but it makes them a bit thicker.
  20. Woops... Wrong quote. Still getting the hang of this. Thanks for redirecting
  21. Hi, I'm new on here. Have been reading for a while but this is my 1st post. Here are my stats. June weight: 96kg Max weight: 105kg Surgery date 13/8/12 Height:162cm Weight today, 6 days after surgery and 2 weeks of Optifast pre-op: 83kg!!! Best decision I've ever made about my weight. I've been feeling so good the last couple of days. Finding it hard to get 1 whole Protein shake over a day, but am getting in my Water. Don't have much pain, or energy, am resting at the moment. I was in hospital for 4 nights, and was so happy. No drains or leak test. I haven't used any pain meds other than Panadol since Tuesday afternoon, and not even Panadol today. So excited to be skinny!!!!!

    Youngster Bandster??

I've just turned 25 and am 5ft 4, weighing 210lb. I'm having surgery next month. My mum is very over weight but won't do anything about it. I see how much she struggles with life at the moment, but she didn't get to that size until she was in her late 40's. She lived a great life and then got big. I missed the great life bit and just got big. Hoping to live a bit more after the surgery.
  23. My surgeon advised me not to dive for a few days after surgery, at least until I'm off tge pain meds. I currently walk my daughter 1 mile, 1.6km to school each morning, then I obviously walk another 1.6km home on my own. Walking is good for relieving gas pains. Mummies recover from surgery better while children are at school and not at home wanting things (proven fact). I won't be allowed to drive her to school that first week post op. Surgery is on Monday, home on Tuesday, do you think Wednesday is unrealistic to be walking that far? Walking at a 6year olds pace is only just faster than walking backwards so I won't be traveling at any real speed, I'm just worried about the distance. Any suggestions?
