Hi guys, great to see everybody doing so well. I've hit a bit of a slump this week. I have to go back to work tomorrow, really don't feel that I'm ready to, but I absolutely need to. This is the first stall I have encountered, with a gain of 1.5kg. This is, however, after a loss of 4.5kg in 1 week. I know that it was mostly water weight because I wasn't eating or drinking and that I've rehydrated so it came back, but I still don't like seeing the scale moving up. I've also been grazing more as I've been at home and have done ZERO exercise. I have my 3.5 month visit with the NUT and surgeon on Thursday. When I first met the NUT she asked me what my goal was. I told her that it was about 60kg, although I would love to get to 58kg. She told me that only about 20% of people get to their healthy bmi and that they would realistically expect me to lose about 60-80% of my excess weight. I'm so excited to go in on Thursday and jump on the scales and flaunt my healthy bmi. No looking back. No regrets. Love the new me. Just need a bit more oomph and motivation.

Freshly Post Op In Australia
puppyphat replied to *Dean*'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi dean, I'm in Sydney, I had my surgery in august this year. There is an Aussie group on here under "local sleeve support groups" in the forums section. The best thread on there is called "attention Australian sleevers". There are head of people from qld, some have already met up with each other in person. Everybody is at different stages so anything you want to know, there will be someone who has been there and done that. Come and say hi. -
Does Starvation Mode Really Matter?
puppyphat replied to wendy88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't eat or drink for a week - 10 days, could only keep down a mouthful of fluid every couple of hrs. Was on a drip for fluids. I have a healthy bmi and I lost more than 10lb in that one week. My body was in starvation mode. Since I have been able to eat and drink normally, I have put on about 1/2 that weight. Starvation is fine until you start to eat again. Your body has been shocked and will store food incase it has to do that again. -
I think if I have a glass of bubbles on Xmas day, I'll sleep through to New Years. I was a massive light weight before surgery and now wouldn't dare touch it. I'm scared that my eyes will be bigger than my tummy. I'm looking at all my yummy old recipes that I used to make and getting a little depressed. I just know that I won't have room for seafood, and ham, and turkey, and potato dishes, and salads and 3 helpings of dessert. THIS IS A GOOD THING. maybe if I say it to myself every day until Christmas, by the time the day comes I'll have convinced myself. Thought just came to me... What on earth am I going to do with the full leg ham that my work gives us each Xmas? It'll take me a year to eat it. Lol.

Stalling is bad, gaining is worse. I lost 4kg in one week from being so sick and now that I'm feeling better and eating and drinking, of course, I'm gaining some back. I knew I would and I know that I didn't lose it in a healthy way. And I also know that it was mostly fluid and that I can't live my life right on the edge of dehydrated, but seeing the scale go up freaking SUCKS!!!

Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?
puppyphat replied to Carrie's Journey's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I went from 96kg to 65kg in 3 months. That's a bmi of 37 to a bmi of 23. I was sleeved in August. My goal is to be 58kg and to be there by Christmas. For maintenance, I want to stay under 60kg. 2.2lb =1kg. -
I had dumping about 3 weeks after surgery. I ate a full fat choc mousse instead of low cal washed down with a full fat caramel latte. Yes, I know this was very dumb. I had sweats, was shaking, watery diarrhoea, felt light headed and very queasy. When I have felt crampy and vomited, it has been because I ate too much too fast. I hope it has subsided now, it usually feels better after the vomit, and I'm back to normal within 30mins. Dumping is when your body gets a big shock of sugar or fat when its not used to it and wants to expel it ASAP. It's more common in the couple of weeks post op when we haven't eaten anything bad for a while.

Wow, you guys had it easy. I wasn't allowed normal food until week 9. I had 4 days nil by mouth, 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks purée with NO LUMPS, 4 weeks soft foods, then try normal food. Soft food was described as anything you could mash with a fork. Every surgeon is different though. This just shows the varied approaches by different drs. Follow what your dr says, not what somebody else's dr recommended for them. If you ever have specific medical or diet questions, be sure to ask them first. It's so good to have that date to now have something to count down too. I hope the time flies.

Sending prayers kelli. My daughter was in intensive care for a week when she was 6 weeks old with whooping cough. No surgery required, but I had her baptized there and then because no one could tell me if she was going to be ok. She is now a very bright and active 6 year old who is none the worse for it. Very very scary at the time, but I hope your niece gets the treatment she needs, recovers and goes on being a happy, healthy little girl very quickly.

Yeah, all part of the glandular fever. Really wanted a drip but was just too tired to fight. Ended up going home after the Maxalon shot as at least that helped with the nausea.

I keep a packet of fun size bounty or milky ways in the vegetable crisper. Since I don't eat a lot of fresh vegetables at the moment, I don't look in there much. When I do get a craving though, I know there is something I can have that is small and will satisfy it. I'm honestly not a big fan of the super sweetness of bounty, that's why I get them. So I know I'll only have one and that will be it. Between my 6 year old and I, we made a 12 pack last about 6 weeks. Good luck.

Lost 1.7kg since Thursday last week. Really struggling with not only nutrition, but Water as well. Had to go to hospital last night as I couldn't stop dry retching, hadn't kept any fluids down since Monday and was very dehydrated. I really don't think the drs understood the urgency to make me stop vomiting. I know I'm nearly 3 months out, but surely that stress on the sleeve isn't good. I called the surgeon yesterday, before it got that bad and asked about pain killers. He said I could take what I like so long as it wasn't anti inflamitory. I still have some Endone left from surgery and am considering taking that. Has anybody had this before, pre or post sleeve? No1 can tell me how long it will last. The drs keep saying I could have symptoms for up to 6 months. I'm 66.1kg now, in 6 months, I'll be close to 25kg.

My daughter wanted me to put money on green moon, but I didn't have any cash, so didn't. Bugger! Kayargh, I know what you mean. I've lost just under 20kg since surgery, and actually hit a bmi of 24 this week. I went into work in plain clothes, that aren't big and baggy, and no1 recognized me. Found out today that I'll be off work for at least 2 weeks, but could be a month or 2. Gotta love glandular fever

Just found out that a big reason that I have no energy is not my lack of nutrition, I've got glandular fever. Was so focused on increasing vitamins and protein, didn't even consider that it could be un-sleeve related.

Ok, so I started at about 202lb or 92kg at first appointment with the surgeon. Had lost 15kg or about 40lb on my own through exercise alone, but was unable to budge anymore weight. I am 5 foot 4 and now, 3 months post op, am 68kg or 149lb. My goal is 58kg or 127lb as this was my weight before falling pregnant with my daughter 6 years ago. I looked healthy at this weight and would not want to go any lower. I think another 10kg is possible given that I've already lost so much more than that in the last 3 months. Hope to be at goal by June next year.

No Liquid Pre Surgery Diet? Is This Normal?
puppyphat replied to Dannysgirl2003's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I was required to do optifast ONLY for 1 week. I knew that would be really tough, so I did it for 2 weeks, just incase I fell off the wagon to start with. Really glad I did the extra week because it mentally prepared me for post op. I was already used to nothing but clear liquids and protein shakes so the 3 weeks post op before I started purée was easy. (And I did fall off the wagon in that first week, I felt so lethargic, hungry and had headaches, but once I got used to it, everything was fine. Would hate to go through food withdrawal symptoms at the same time I was recovering from surgery) -
Hey everyone. Scott, I hope you're recovering well. I know the hospital doesn't let you have phones, so I guess we'll have to wait until Friday when you get home to find out how it all went. I chopped off all my hair yesterday and dyed it BRIGHT red!!! I'm like a traffic cone. New me, new do. My size 12 work pants are absolutely too big now and I really need some new ones. Don't think I'll get into 8s, but I'm looking forward to buying more 10s.

Office Competition... I'm So Evil!
puppyphat replied to ArcusX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've lost more than 30kg so far, and now weighing only 68kg, have less than 10kg to lose. All the chefs at work have been inspired so are doing the group weigh in thing too. Everybody put in 50 and who every has lost the most by nye takes all, based on percentage lost. I told the boys that even though my weight loss has slowed right down, I'm still going to lose heaps more than they are. I didn't put my 50 in, but I am putting my weight on the wall next to theirs..... And guess what! With only 1kg lost since last week, my percentage of weight lost is heaps higher than theirs. Winning!!! -
Glad to hear things are going the way they're supposed to Lila. And I def think that following the advice of trained and skilled professionals, and your body, over that of your parents, is a good idea. I know what it's like to have very caring parents that border on smothering sometimes. Thankfully after having lost about 30kg, my mum keeps asking me if I think she should have the surgery. She gets that all the struggles in the beginning, and even now, are a fair price for what we are given. I say that I'm struggling now because I had about 1/2 a chicken thigh and a teaspoon of rice for lunch and I've been sliming and cramping ever since. My only other vomiting experience came after eating a couple of hot chips with chicken. I'm thinking that I'm VERY sensitive to carbs and that at the moment they are more pain than they are worth. Bread, rice, potato and pasta all make me so full with such a tiny amount. It's just not worth it for little to no actual nutrition.

Got A Question For Those Who Got Ther Sleeves Done...
puppyphat replied to Jimbo_D's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I played a full day of paintball 1 month out. I was running but not stretching or swinging. I wish I had waited!!! I was so tired and the lack of nutrition actually made me want to vomit the whole time. I was still on purée and finding it hard to get more than 300 calories in a day. Trust me, if you go back too soon, not only do you risk injuring yourself, but you risk having a really miserable time and taking more than a week to recover from pushing yourself that hard. -
I got so excited and went straight to the site to order some, but they don't ship to Australia :'( no birthday cake protein shakes for puppyphat.

Ok. Off topic rant. So cranky!!!! I'm 68kg, I am right now wearing size small pyjamas and tomorrow will put on my size 10 work pants, my size 10 crop top for the itty bitty titties, size 12 work shirt and do my hair and makeup all pretty. I WANT PEOPLE TO STOP CALLING ME BABE!!! IM NOT A BLOODY PIG!!! Ok, have just removed panties, untwisted them, put them back on. I used to get called babe in primary school, after the pig, and I do not find it a term of endearment. Wish I had the courage to say it to the people that pi$$ me off all the time by saying it.
