Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?

Thank you! I think if I exercised it would be better. You will get there! -
September Was Your Progress?
altagirl replied to jentheyo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 9/10. I am in a size 6 and some 4s.However, I just had blood work done and I was shocked that my a1C is still high. I am going in for a glucose tolerance test next week - I haven't taken metformin since a month after surgery but thought that my labs would reflect my eating habits better. I fear I am going to have to bump up the exercise more.....I hate exercise! -
I am glad to hear that you are got in to see your surgeon. I think it is common to feel the need to go to the ER but it is not always the best option - your surgeon probably sees these kinds of things on a regular basis and has a smaller list of rule outs compared to the ER. I hope the pain meds help you sleep - not getting enough sleep can really ruin my day.

New NSV... finally healthy!
altagirl replied to SweetSaso's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That is great! I have an appointment on Monday to get lab tests - I am excited to see where all of my levels are too. I hope it turns out as good as yours!! -
My recommendation would be to make an appointment with your doctor unless you think this is a real emergency (ie threat of loss of life or limb). Most doctors will fit you in for an urgent concern - and they are more likely to know how to treat your concerns. Your co-pay for an ER visit will likely be much more than a co-pay to the office. I suppose it is your decision but carefully think about how much of an emergency is this? Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?
altagirl replied to Carrie's Journey's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I can tell you that I was the same way until the past few weeks with the food (surgery on 9/10). When I started I thought I would be ecstatic to reach 130 - and now I am really fighting to get to 120! Congratulations on exercising - it is my biggest struggle - I just can't seem to want to do it.... -

Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?
altagirl replied to Carrie's Journey's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I just wanted to follow up on this thread - I had surgery on 9/10/12 and was hoping to reach my goal of 120 by end of March. Well, it is now near the end of April and I am still working on getting to goal. I knew the last 10 pounds would be difficult but I didn't anticipate how much it would annoy me! I have exceeded the goal set by the dietician. I am now seriously investigating plastic surgery. I am still maintaining about 800 calories a day - if I eat more I feel sick. I am diligent about not grazing because I know that it would be easy for me to do all day! I don't exercise even though I should. That is my next goal!!! -
You look FABULOUS! Congratulation on your success so far!

Wouldn't believe it if i wasn't living it!
altagirl replied to HollsHails's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I feel the same way - if it wasn't happening to me I don't know if I would believe it! Congratulations on your success so far! -
I like spanx. I just bought some tanks at nordstrom's rack tonight. I think they work really well with the loose skin.

Who would NOT do it again and why?
altagirl replied to LOVESAQHA's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a complete "melt down" when I went into the OR - if I had not already been on meds it would have been a full on panic attack. I went through the doubts and second guesses - some after I had surgery - but I am so pleased with my results. This was the best decision for me and it has been an easy recovery and adjustment. You are in good hands with Dr Ortiz. I had surgery 9/10 so I am about 6 months out now. I know you asked about people who had regretted the surgery but I decided to reply anyway. Hope it helps and if you have any specific questions about OCC please feel free to ask or post in the self pay Mexico forum - -

Hungry or not at all hungry after surgery
altagirl replied to ShrinkingInSeattle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 months out and have just started feeling hungry. I feel hungry after not eating either overnight or for a long period of time - for example yesterday I ate about 10 in the morning then did not eat until 5 (a half a bowl of soup) -when I got home at 9pm I was starving. I ate a boiled egg (because it was the quickest thing and ready in the fridge) and had a RTD muscle milk. Normally I eat "on schedule" but yesterday was unusually busy for me. Like other people have mentioned - even when I am hungry I am satisfied after much much less food than before. -
Emotional eating after surgery
altagirl replied to sweetie022972's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am an emotional eater - I eat more when I am stressed but in general I have always used for for happy/sad/bored/whatever times. To be honest I didn't think about this before I had surgery but it has not been a problem. Just recently I have started having hunger which makes me nervous - up until this point I have had to remind myself to eat. Having said that I have found that I still have the emotional eating urges but there is no motivation to actually eat since I get full so fast. -
I am rockin' this Easter Challenge! Just kidding! I finally lost 1 pound. I am now at 132. I knew these last 10-15 pounds would be slow going but I did not expect to be so annoyed about it. On a good note, I bought pants just after Christmas and had a hard time buying a size 8 - I could not imagine ever being smaller than a size 8. A few weeks ago I bought size 6 pants - which was even harder....size 6, really? This morning, my size 6 pants look baggy. I never envisioned me being this small (I am only 5'3").

Would you have paid without insurance coverage?
altagirl replied to Houston17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was self pay and had surgery in Mexico. I realize this is not an option for everyone and had it not been an option for me I would have paid out of pocket to have the surgery in the US. -
Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
altagirl replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a nurse at a big academic medical center. I have an administrative position - I was sleeved 9/10/12 and have 13 lbs to lose before I am at my goal. I haven't had any complications and am very happy with my decision to have the sleeve. -
6 months out and getting worried about weight gain!
altagirl replied to sramos89's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am a big fan of weighing regularly - the reason I do it because if I start to see weight drop it motivates me to continue the good habits and if I see the weight climb it motivates me get back on track. I agree it is not for everyone but for me it works well. I also get scared about gaining weight back. I still woud like to lose 13 lbs but figure it is going to take a me several months to accomplish- and I am below my surgeons expected weight loss. -
Low BMI of 38 would you do the surgery or have you done the sleeve?
altagirl replied to Zen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I started with a lower BMI - I had surgery to prevent what I could see as future health problems. I had no complications and have been very pleased with my decision. I am a nurse and see everyday complications to EVERY medical condition/surgery (part of my job involves risk management) - I carefully thought about the pros and cons of surgery vs trying to lose weight one more time on my own - it was the best decision for me. Everyone is different, but I had surgery on a Monday and was back to work on Friday. For me, a month off work would have been overkill. For me, I was uncomfortable but not in any pain for 2-3 weeks after surgery. It took me about 6-8 weeks before I was really adjusted to the new way of looking at food and eating. I would HIGHLY recommend this surgery. -
My friend keeps calling me a "Cheater"
altagirl replied to lilstyler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow - given this I don't think you will be missing much by distancing yourself. It is unfortunate that you have daughters who are friends - but if the daughter is anything like the mother not a bad idea to distance them too. Otherwise, onward and upward, there are no "rules" that say just because you have put up with her antics in the past you are required to continue. -
I agree - Medifast Brownies are yummy. I eat them now as a treat.

having bathroom problems
altagirl replied to kamsmom13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every morning I fill a 64 oz pitcher with my crystal light and a cap full of miralax. I make sure I drink the entire pitcher - this way I am getting a little help all day long. I know I will probably have to continue some form of this forever but I am ok with it - I also have a history of diverticulitis and have had surgery for perforations of the diverticuli so I am super sensitive about keeping things moving. -
I am a little late but would like to join - I need some motivation! I have 13 more pounds to goal so I would like to lost 5 pounds by Easter. I know I can do it if I really cut out all of the unnecessary carbs - good luck to everyone.
