  1. I am sure this is being discussed elsewhere, but I could not find it easily, so forgive me. My doc says stop drinking 30 min prior to eating, while you are eating and 30 min after. A friend of mine, who went to a different doc, says his said drink up until you start eating, then 30 minutes after. An hour of not drinking anything sounds a lot better than an hour and a half. What have you been told? What do you do?
  2. I am six and a half weeks out, and I have never had problems with it. I can't say others haven't, but I personally haven't. And I eat a lot of beans for my protein. I worried about it at first, but when they never came, I stopped worrying. I hope you have no problems like me, especially sharing a space with someone else!
  3. You know, that was the reason why I thought we were not to drink 30 minutes prior, because you don't have that much stomach and liquid takes up room. That's why I was surprised when my friend said his doctor said you could drink prior to eating.
  4. It amazes me how different doctors are! But I definitely do agree with the not during eating (and mine says to take 30 minutes to eat; sometimes I am full and stop at 20 and other times, if I am eating very slow, I eat all the way until the 30 minutes are finished), and I definitely do not drink 30 minutes after. And let's be honest, I usually do not drink 30 minutes before. Only once I have drank up until I was eating, but that was because I didn't expect to eat anything at all.
  5. And really, I don't think there's anything wrong with being conservative. And I will still do that, 30 min prior, 30 min after. It would just be nice some days if I didn't have to stop 30 min prior to eating. Sometimes I don't realize time has gotten away from me and it makes my day all wonky.
  6. I do (mostly) follow everything he says; there are tiny things here and there I step out of line with, but I keep up with my weight every day and know that if something isn't working, I need to back off. I just wondered about that, the drinking, because I know there are different doctors who say different things, and one thing I have learned from reading through this forum, and talking to my friend, is that my doc seems very conservative. Which isn't a bad thing but the food gets old. Though I guess I can't complain; six and a half weeks out and I've lost 50 lbs (well, 20 the two weeks prior and 30 the six weeks after).
  7. Right, I knew the whys, I just wasn't sure about the drinking before the meal, if that was something that was common or not.
  8. I was so excited to have real food again after four weeks of shakes. I'm two weeks post op. I haven't had any nausea or vomiting (other than while in the hospital). Came home from the doc, fixed one egg, two tbls grits. Timed myself, ate slow, chewed chewed chewed. Used a baby spoon. Didn't finish - stopped when full. Immediately lost most of it. The rest came later when I drank a sip of tea. My mom freaked and wanted me to call the doctor, I told her I'd try baby food tomorrow before I called them - is this normal? I just want to alleviate her fears ( and mine a little too, no lie).
  9. Be careful, that's all I will say. Make sure you are completely chewing and it is all liquid when you eat. I think it was the grits that got me, honestly. Today, I had pureed chicken and mashed potatoes and it was perfection and I haven't been sick, so. You will get there!
  10. I told everyone who would listen. I even made a little blog for my friends and family to follow along. I was lucky though in that I have had nothing but positive support. The reason I told friends, coworkers, etc, is because we eat a lot at work and I needed everyone to know why I wouldn't be. Also, nothing else had worked before, there had to be a reason I was losing weight.
