Sore/painful Incisions 3 Weeks Out
newskinnygal replied to newskinnygal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I honestly didn't think this surgery would effect me the way it did. I've had a very slow healing process and im about to have lapband surgery next week. I can't imagine going through all this again. All I can hope for is a healthier me in the long run. -

Lap Band Vs Sleeve
newskinnygal replied to dragonfli14's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're welcome! I hope I helped a little bit! Exactly, none of the surgeries are going to magic. Even with the sleeve or bypass, a lot of patients gain back the weight if they don't change their eating habits and commit to the new lifestyle. Like you said it is a tool and the band is not a permanent option. Good luck! -
I was like this for about a week or two post op! I was super bloated and was walking around. I did take gas x strips like others mentioned to help. I gained about 15 ls after surgery which was all fluid and gas, then one night it miraculously came off. I noticed from clothes being looser that my stomach had gone down and the scale said I weighed less! It was the weirdest thing ever!

Oo I was wondering what the answer was to this question too! Also, what's a good treadmill that can hold a heavier person?

Someone Turn Me On To Best Tasting Protein Shake
newskinnygal replied to Maddysgram's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ive tried a lot and have been super unsatisfied with all! I just bought some carnation instant breakfast, I hope that doesn't give the disgusting protein aftertaste! The only one I've liked from the numerous shakes I tried was GNCs wheybolic chocolate shake. Everything else was disgusting. From boost to pure protein to oh yeah to unjury to GNC total lean shake. But everyone has different taste buds. What I like, others may dislike. What I dislike, others may like. Isopure gave a bad aftertaste too. However, I could chug a bottle without gagging. It was fruity flavored and not milky. Haha I have tried a lot of different shakes. I've been struggling to find one I like! I hope carnation is good! If you find a good one, please let me know as well! Oh I did love gatorades G3 protein shakes, but they are loaded with sugar and can't have them on the pre op diet or any diet....lol :/ yes, I did say love and protein shake together though.... -
When I went to my pre op testing appointment, thy told me all nail polish/ nails would have to be removed to reduce the risk of infection. I took my nail polish off but kept the nail polish on my toes on! I had just gotten a pedicure! Haha

Lap Band Vs Sleeve
newskinnygal replied to dragonfli14's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello and welcome to lapband talk! I'm just going to copy and paste my answer to a very similar question. I hope you find it helpful! : I chose the band because it is the lesser invasive than the other surgeries. The band has lower complication rates. The band is reversible. They aren't cutting anything out from your body or rerouting anything. The other surgeries have trouble with absorbing Vitamins. You can still vomit with the other surgeries. If you are careful to take small bites and remember to chew well, I don't think you will have a problem with the band. Down the road if anything does go wrong, you can always get the sleeve or another weight loss surgery if they come out with something new ( like the sleeve plication). I would rather keep my options open with the band. You do lose weight slower, however over time you will get there. I'm in no rush. It took me 21 years to gain this weight, I don't expect to lose it in 21 days. Good luck with whichever route you go, I'm sure you will be successful either way! In the end, it comes down to your personal decision. My surgeon pushed for the sleeve, I pushed for the band! Haha best wishes! -
Aww, I'm so excited for you! Congrats! Best wishes!

Gall Bladder Removal And Band Installed...

I had my gallbladder taken out about two weeks ago and I am the opposite! I am constipated... :/ I wonder what causes either or... -
I think you will do wonderful with the lapband! And I'm sure your mother will be motivated and maybe even start her very own lapband journey! How exciting! I hope your PCP agrees and is willing to write you a letter of recommendation! Best wishes!

I didn't have any problems with my PCP and neither did my mom. My mom, like you, has rheumatoid arthritis and back and hip problems. She started out around 290, she lost 40 lbs on her own before surgery and another 50 so far after surgery. She is down below 200 now, at 199. Her surgery was in January. My mom wasnt able to get up the stairs in our home without crawling up them. She constantly used a cane and used a wheel chair to travel far distances. She can now walk up the stairs. She still needs her cane but she can walk farther distances. She is looking to get hip replacements soon. My mom and I have the same PCP. She saw how we had obesity in the family, it was in our genetics. We tried numerous diets and failed. If we did lose, we eventually gained it all back plus more. I'm sure your PCP will understand your situation and background. Explain to them how this will benefit you, however im sure they already know. Your PCP probably wants you to try on your own first, but I understand how hard it is with rheumatoid arthritis from my mother. I suggest that you try aquatic exercise maybe in a heated pool too, that would be easy on your joints. I think lapband will be a great help to you. I know it was for my mother. I'm getting banded in August, I cannot wait to live a healthier lifestyle.

Gall Bladder Issues Post Op
newskinnygal replied to texas-bandette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my gallbladder out before being banded. I had it removed two weeks ago and I'm getting banded the first week of august. It is common to have gallbladder issues after losing a significant amount of weight. That is why my doctor decided to take it out before I was banded, so that I don't experience any pain after being banded and losing weight. I hope that you can take it out soon and be pain free! -
