Not The Daughter My Mother Wished I Would Be

Thank you to all. It was really hard to write this. I've told her how i felt before, but I don't think she means to hurt my feelings. They just come out of her mouth without her thinking how it would effect others. I'm 21 years old, I live at home and go to college. My insurance is through my dad. I cannot wait for the day to come where I graduate college and can support my self. I don't need to be belittled like this, especially when I'm still healing from surgery and about to start classes Monday. It's just these are the words that I will never forget she said... She recently had lapband surgery in January. However, her excuse is, " when I was your age I weighed 125 lbs " blah blah blah You all have turned my tears to smiles and for that I truly thank you!

Return To Work Was A Complete Failure. :(

You are not a baby! There is no way I could have gone back to work after one or two weeks. I also have a high pain tolerance. My gallbladder was acutely inflamed and filled with stones and I thought all my attacks were just normal. However , after surgery I actually gained 20 lbs from the swelling! My stomach is still swollen and I cant see my belly button. I got an infection which I think kinda slowed down my healing process. But like everyone else said, I guess people heal at different rates. I'm 4 weeks out and still tender and sore but not really in any more pain and not breaking out in a sweat from walking 10 feet. Loool this surgery definitely surprised me too, I did not think it would take me this long to heal. But take it slow and easy and give your body te rest it needs. You have the rest of your life to work

Crazy Story From Pre Op Class

What does septic mean? Is it a type of infection? O.o mind boggled! Follow doctors order!
  7. Yes I would definitely take off a few extra days! I was miserable the first week!
  8. What color are your wounds oozing? Does it smell? Are they red? Do you have a fever? Call your doctor ASAP. You shouldnt have any drainage from incision sites. You need to be on antibiotics. I had a hematoma/seroma which turned into an infection. It was oozing yellow Fluid from the port incision. I was in major pain. My incisions and stomach were hot and felt as if they were burning. My doctor put me on antibiotics for a week and I wash them with dial/antibacterial soap and Water everyday to keep them clean. Let me know if you have any other questions, but please call your doc ASAP so you can get on antibiotics and prevent your port from getting infected! Not trying to scare you, but your health comes first! Xoxo
  9. I would say ten days to two weeks. Mine took longer because I had an infection and a hematoma, they took 3-4 weeks. They are still sore if I wear pants with buttons and I'm uncomfortable wearing a bra.
  10. Yeah, all anti inflammatories come with a warning for these types of sides effects; ulcers, bleeding, perforation, gastritis, etc. It interferes with the mucosa lining of your stomach and can lead to erosion too. Ask your doctor though to make sure what medications you can and cannot take.
  11. I heard that ibuprofen causes erosion. That's why it's not recommended to use with the lapband. Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS are not recommended. If you do take them, take a lower dose, make sure you eat and take with a full glass of water. Use sparingly, to prevent erosion.
  12. Im glad you are feeling better! My pain meds didnt really help me, but I was in pain like you a couple days of ago. I do have an infection and a hematoma. I couldn't stand or walk or anything. Now I'm just sore beneath my bra line, kind of tender when I get up too. It's not fun at all, I know how you feel to think that I have to go through this again in December frightens me!
  13. Were you sore a month out of surgery? Especially getting out of bed, up from a chair, bending, etc? I'm sore, especially underneath my breast bones. I'm not sure if it's from laying on my back or not wearing a bra because of sore incisions or because of surgery...
  14. Good luck dear! I will keep you in my prayers! No worries, everything will be fine! Just try to drink liquids when you can and try not to tense up when they try to draw blood because that will make the veins hide! Take care and i wish you a speedy recovery! Keep us updated!

So Sad For My Daughter :(

I can feel for your daughter. Although, I didn't have any issues with insurance, I had to do a 6 month supervised diet. I'm 21 years old and a college student! My mom like you has had the lapband done. I was supposed to have the lapband done in July after doing 6 month diet, psych eval, etc etc. I've been in the process since December 2011. Well, in June they found I had gallstones. My doctor agreed to take them out during surgery. My gallbladder ended up being really bad and he couldn't place the lapband. It would have to be postponed 3 weeks. Come August and the next surgery date, I have an infection and hematoma. My surgery can't be done and I start in less than two weeks. My lapband surgery now has to be postponed until I have a break from college, which is in Decemeber. I completely understand how your daughter feels and how frustrating this process can be. Keep her motivated and inspired. Have her exercise and eat healthy while away for college. Any weight she can lose on her own before surgery will help. I believe she can go to any doctor for the 6 month diet, as long as they record her weight. That's what the insurance wants to see. I'm sure her school has an on site medical center or she can find a PCP near by. Tell her to not give up hope and it will come sooner than she thinks! How exciting! I think it's great she is starting this at a young age and taking control of her weight! Best luck! If she needs a friend to talk to, I'm here! I truly understand how she feels...just tell her to not give up! everything happens for a reason!
