What I Ate On Vacation (Sleeved July 2Nd)

Good for you! I think if she was cleared for full diet she did pretty good. A taco, meatball, egg roll and quiche. At a month out I know for certain I had meatballs and quiche. We all know our docs and NUTs have different progressions. If I wasn't at full foods by week 6, I was expected to contact my NUT or doc to figure out why I was having issues.

    5 Days Post Op

A lot of people have a hard time with plain water post op. I've had maybe 2 plain bottles of water since surgery. I have to add crystal light, Mio, etc in order to get it down. I really didn't like flavored water prior to surgery. I don't know if there is a medical reason why.
  3. I don't think it ever ends. My food often gets cold too and I've also thrown the last few bites out. I think its a way of life now. It's funny because I do realize how quickly people eat now.
  4. The cravings don't necessarily go away, especially early out, but the mindless eating stops significantly. I used to watch tv, look down and had eaten a half to 3/4th a box of cheez its. Today I had some for the first time and it took me hours to finish a serving of 29. In between your Protein and Water goals there just isn't a lot of room for much else and I'm pretty satisfied most of the day.

    Early Soft Foods

You should follow your doctors orders. If there is conflicting information given from YOUR doctor, not the internet, then call and ask questions. Yes, there are different post op diets and time frames, but your doctor gave you his for a particular reason. I think you should follow it or call before you advance your diet. Being in health care I'm sure you've seen or heard of people who haven't followed post op instructions and end up back in the hospital or ill, we don't want that to be you.

    Bruises?

I can't remember exactly how long, but it was a while, like weeks. I remember looking down one day and wondering why I was still bruised so far out from surgery. It still seems to me that I'm holding on to bruises a little longer. Fell 2 Saturdays ago and still bruised up.

    Post-Op Medications.

I think that's about average. I take the same things basically. No more blood pressure or actigall. Vitamin D is once a week and I added biotin every day. And I take ursodiol because I still have a gall bladder. Get used to it, you will probably supplement the rest of your life.
  8. I think the pickle craving has something to do with our diets. Whenever I have done high protein diets I crave pickles. I think it really is the salt our bodies crave because the diets are a diuretic. About weeks 3-5 I craved pickles, pepperoni slices and lunch meat. Now I barely eat them.
  9. I'm 7 weeks out and had no problem, but wasn't able to eat very much. Ive only tried iceberg though. Crunchy water as my friend calls it lol.

    I Messed Up! :(

Pineapple is a tenderizer (that's why we put it on ham) and it may help break down the chicken. This advice was given to me by my NUT. She said if you're having trouble with meat to eat a small piece of pineapple or drink pineapple juice. I would cut the juice with Water though. Also she told us to carry a little baggie of Adolph's meat tenderizer, mix with water and drink if meat ever felt stuck.

    I Feel Guilty

I have experienced this, but haven't felt guilty about it. I just tell them I had something to eat not too long before I came or that im not feeling too well. Now what does irritate me is wait staff that keeps trying to take my plate! I always have to tell them I eat slow and I'll let them know when I'm finished.
  12. I weigh twice a week. Monday is my official weigh day that I record and Thursday is my check day. If on Thursday I haven't lost any weight I go back and look at my food diaries, etc. There still time to find and correct my mistake for the week on Thursday. No matter how bad I want to weigh myself more, I won't.
  13. I had the Peanut Butter Granola one. The only other thing I had today was a Greek yogurt. I think I'm done with Atkins lol.
  14. Hi keldolbeth!!!! I'll let you know what I come up with. I do have the packs of almonds that I use now (I've been cleared for everything) and plan on keeping those around. I was just looking for more options. There is close fridge and I may even get one of those tiny ones that sits desktop. It holds like 4 cans of pop which will be enough for some cheese, turkey, etc. Training starts Aug 6!!!! This is a first for my district and I'm having a hard time coping lol. School still doesnt start until Tuesday after Labor Day. We usually didn't go in until 3 days before.
  15. 50 Shaded is definitely a distraction lol. I started reading it when I first came home from the hospital. I just finished book 2. I didn't even think to look for sugar alcohols but when I ran to the bathroom I knew they had to be in there. I bought them because there was a Protein bar thread and people seemed to like those. I'll go back and try to find another. I always plan ahead, but looking for things to stash in my drawer that can keep.
  16. Blugirl, I'm about the same as you. I don't go as often as I used to. Now I know part of it was the water pill I was taking, but it still seems like I don't go that often. I usually get 50oz of pure water, not counting any shakes, popsicles, soup, etc. I said I don't feel sick, dehydrated, etc and I'm still losing, so I guess it's ok.
  17. Though it may be hard to believe, one week isn't really considered a stall. There are posters here that have been at the same weight for a month or more. I will gladly take a week. I've read that its common to stall at 3 & 6 weeks and 3, 6, 9 months about. Your body has to adjust as you lose weight. This early after surgery you'll stall, but it will continue to drop after a while. At 5 weeks I didn't lose, but 6th week I dropped 7lbs. Try upping your calories, Protein or exercise. One or all may help. Just don't get discouraged and try staying off the scale. The most I will weigh myself is 2x a week; Monday is my official and Thursday is my progress check. If I haven't loss by Thursday I start looking back at myfitnesspal to see what I've done and adjust if necessary. Good luck to you.
  18. I'm 6 weeks post op and have had some salad, but not much. As one poster said, there's not very much room. Both times I ate the chicken and cheese off and had a couple bites of lettuce. I didn't have any problems, but my NUT advanced my diet more quickly than most I see here.

    When Do The Incisions Heal?

I'm 6 weeks out and my biggest one finally healed. That incision wasn't fully closed after I took off the steri strips and left a hole so it took a while to close up. I learned though that even though my skin had healed I still had the soreness inside.

My Hubby Keeps Eating My Food!

I'm single so I don't have the problem at home, but I posted here about having the problem while out with friends. Early on I would take a lunch box with me everywhere to make sure I stayed track with my protein. When I pulled out food, portiobed for me, everyone would want some. I think people don't get that were not mindlessly eating or snacking. Everything we eat is a calculated decision.

    Week 4 Still Stalled

Try upping your calories and/or protein.
  22. If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any at all...Saturday was one of the worst days I've had in a while. It started well...pedicure, excited to go to a friend's bridal shower, but quickly went bad. I had my first post op meltdown yesterday as I was trying to get dressed to attend the bridal shower. See I've always prided myself on my appearance and clothing. I was a plus size fashionista of some sort. I had my ensemble planned out in my head and was excited since I hadn't really dressed up in a while. I'm a teacher who had her surgery right at the beginning of summer vacay and its been a lot of sweats, tshirts and elastic. Yesterday my clothes were too big....not just "oh there's a little extra room" too big, but falling off my shoulder too big. AND my bra was too big. You could see the cup collapsing under the clingy shirt. I tried 4 different bras and 2 shirts before I broke down. I had a full on temper tantrum. Of course I'm happy, but who wants to look a mess? I finally compromised with myself and headed out the door. Because of the meltdown I was running late for the shower. Then I was even later because the hall sat back from the street, behind another building and I drove past it back and forth for 15 minutes. Finally made it, go in and....I FALL DOWN the last 6 or so steps. I didn't kill myself, but I could feel my ankle throbbing. By the end of the shower I knew it was going to be bad. At home, the swelling and pain picked up. It's painful to walk and all I can think about is I won't be able to work out.... I'm only 6 weeks out and am losing at a ok rate, but when I work out, of course I'm pulling down some pretty damn good numbers. I already was going to see my reg doc on Monday so I'll have her take a look at it and pray for the best. THEN...guys this is your cue to leave. Ladies tmi coming. Then after 1.5 years my cycle starts! My cycle was purposely stopped in Jan 2011 because I have large fibroids. I was given hormone injections every 3 months, but had to stop them in preparation for surgery because of the risk of blood clots. So while I haven't been searching for my cycle I had been a little concerned because the last injection was Feb 2012. Well aunt flo showed right on up yesterday with a wrath....crimson tide! I'm feeling better about everything today. The swelling on the ankle is going down and I'm controlling the pain. Have an luncheon to attend today and I already tried on the dress lol. Can't wear the shoes I had picked out, but I'll be fine. I still am angry about the cycle though.... Thanks for "listening" to me fuss! *kisses*
  23. Just a short update after my doc appt. Doc was happy to see me, first time I've seen my reg doc since she did my initial paper work. She looked at my ankle and said it should be fine. The swelling and pain are mild and I was able to walk on it well today. The best news is....she took me off of my blood pressure medication!!!! YAYYYYY!! I told her I had some light headedness after exercising and standing up quickly. She took my blood pressure and said I didn't need it anymore. I now do not take ANY medications (well except what my surgeon has me on). Lastly, I got the ok to re-start my hormone injections to slow this Red Sea down!!! LOL! Thanks again everyone!
