    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Well Hello August Sleevers... I'm scheduled to be sleeved on Aug. 9th. I am 5'4" as well... and I'm at 203 lbs. In Feb 2010, I had the lap band and from an all time high of 234 to 183. Had problems with the lap band (severe) in April and had all the fluid removed with the decision to have the sleeve done. Since that time, I have had some thyroid problems resulting in having to have a biopsy done yesterday to determine if everything is good. I will get the results on Monday Aug. 6 and providing all is a go... VSG surgery will be on Thursday the 9th. (So please say a little prayer for me).. In the meantime I have gained approx 20 lbs... I'm actually into my 1st week of the 2 protein shake a day and havn't lost anything. I'm sure the thyroid problem is not helping... I've been started on Synthroid... hopefully... I will see some good results after the sleeve. Thrilled with this new group and hoping to stay informed and in touch with you all. The support is great. My surgery is scheduled with Dr. Jawad in Orlando, Florida. God Bless You... Connie

The Cons Of Gastric Sleeve Life! :-(

Well Ladies... I have been like a heater all my life... (my hubby says, I'm still "hot", even if it does come in flashes)....but, this mid-life cycle... is the pits... and I think cold is good... So, I am looking forward to it. Besides... who wouldn't love to wear those cute little tee-shirts with the layered look... a beautiful sweater... or even cotton sweater... Thinking about it brings on a hot flash!!! lololol
  7. Hi everyone... I am in a holding patter... band to sleeve scheduled for Aug 9th. I've been reading and reading on the sleeve vs, RnY and still have so many questions. One comment that I read was in regards to the "stomach removal". In essence the writer was stating to be very careful of the sleeve because unlike other surgeries... this surgery was permanent and couldn't be reversed should complications arise. Has anyone had such complications or know what the writer might be referring too? Also, a comment was made... "I didn't want to risk getting rid of the x-tra stomach in case I might need it later"???? Anyone know what the x-tra stomach would be needed or used for??? Are these crazy questions? Ha!!!

    Removal Of X-Tra Stomach?

You guys are AWESOME!!! Can't say thanks enough... those were some of my exact thoughts about the RNY with the stomach laying off to the side... ummm what for??? After having the band, losing approx 50 lb.s from my highest weight... only about 40 with the sleeve itself... and having some vomiting, sliming, stuck in the gut feelings... I am ready to do something different. My weight problems began after a car accident in 1997. A traumatic closed head brain injury with lots of medications since... So, I'm really hoping this will be the answer. I am a little older than most of you... 54... and exercise is a huge problem with me... The fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome... Not a lot of hope in that area... Do you find you have to exercise like crazy or anyone do the moderate walking exercise?

The Cons Of Gastric Sleeve Life! :-(

This is so much help... thank you all for posting... I'm a band to sleeve... scheduled for August 9.
  10. I am reading such wonderful success stories with the sleeve... I'm wondering... has anyone failed with the sleeve? If so, what happened?
  11. Hi Carollee... Good news for you!!! Congratulations. I'm so glad that you happy with your results... Do you mind telling me about your experience?
  12. I was even thinking of calling and asking the dr to put some fluid back into the band to get this under control...
  13. Well... Amber... it hasn't been 3 months with me and I am gaining daily... I am sooooooo miserable. I know it's a matter of time but, it can't come soon enough for me...

    Anyone Failed With The Sleeve?

funfamily - Can I ask you how much weight you gained back? @Jane... I know you have a very valid point. I am concerned because I have other medical issues, I am not able to do constant exercise... walking is good and I do go to the pool occasionally. So, I am hoping that I will be able to get where I need to be and stay very close...

    Anyone Failed With The Sleeve?

Thanks DonnieJ... your story is very encouraging... I am excited to say that my surgery is scheduled for 9/Aug. Until then, I will be doing the pre op diet I suppose... It's about 7 weeks out... so, that seems like a long time without any restriction at all... But, I know it will be worth it... God Bless...
  16. @Jane... You look beautiful... I know you are thrilled with the wonderful results that you have... God Bless You...
  17. Thanks so much for sharing and I am now scheduled for surgery on Aug 9. so, I am getting excited and will get started on my pre-op surgery diet... Your story is an inspirations to me for sure....

    Merry Christmas!

Hello... I'm new to the Verticalcleevetalk website and would love to get to know others from Florida... is this a n active forum?
  19. Oh Amber... I really hope things pick up for you too.. That is my biggest concern... not losing the weight... It was slow going with the lap band... and I'm hoping that the sleeve will be faster... For me, It took forever to get the band tight where I could and would lose weight and then, I started having the problems with the blockages... Since removing the Fluid from my band... I've gained about 20 lbs back... which is so discouraging. My conversion is not scheduled until August 9, so, I'm a big concerned about the continued weight gain....
  20. Thanks you guys... it all helps... I couldn't remember with the lap band but, it didn't take long, the usual 4-6 weeks and that's what I'm hearing here as well.. Just got a THE call from my Drs. office ... and the surgery is now scheduled for August 9. So, I'm good for the summer... I was just hoping to have it done sooner..
  21. I want to bring my Grandbabies (ages 5 & 7 ) here to spend some time for the summer... Can you tell me after surgery how long it takes to get my energy and my pep back? Thanks.

    Anyone Failed With The Sleeve?

Thanks ya'll... As far as the eating, I'm thinking I'll be okay... since I had the band and learned to eat slowly, small portions and stay busy... I will say, that I know part of the reason for the weight gain since having the band Fluid taken out... (other than the fact that it's like not having a restriction at all) is, I am eating a whole lot more and the "grazing" is back... Just can't seem to stop the never ending "hunt" for something to put into my mouth. That was really NOT the case after the lap band... I was able to feel much more satisfied... So... I'm hoping I'll be one of those folks who can get back on trac with the weight loss...
