Nov Sleevers... What's Your Status?
Ola Tess replied to Yasmine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 11/28 so I am one week post op now. Besides the stomach virus I got the day after that sent me back to the hospital after discharge for an iv, I think it's going well. I have trouble getting enough fluids in like ALOT of people but try to sip sip all the time. I'm eating liquidy cream of wheat and some tomato or low fat cream of chick soup along with some premier choco protein shake. Still have pain and taking meds but just a few times a day. Sometimes I get a really obnoxious cramp after I eat something- figure it's gas so I just walk. Down 6 lbs;) -
Diahrrea After Surgery?
Ola Tess replied to Ola Tess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just an update. I called my surgeon today cause the diahrrea just seemed too much to me. Seemed like more was coming out than I was taking in. He had me come up to the hospital to the Ambulatory Treatment Center and I got an iv and 2 liters of fluid. He said some loose stools can be normal but not as much as I had. I felt like a million bucks when I left there. And the diahrrea completely stopped , haven't had any in over 12 hrs. So hopefully it was a stomach virus or something. I actually wanted something to eat for the first time in 5 days!! -
My Surgery Is 12/11 I Have A Question...
Ola Tess replied to mocanitanj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't even remember recovery room AT ALL. I only remember being moved to my bed on the floor. And no sore throat at all. Just pain in one of the incisions. Good luck -
Two Days Post-Op
Ola Tess replied to vanessabalderas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can keep liquid pain meds down but I have to sip it not take it like I normally would. I am however having trouble w my liquids. Everytime I drink something- broth, water, crystal light- it makes my stomach cramp really bad. The first day on clears I only took in 10oz. -
Ok so I had surgery on wed 11/28. Everything went perfectly. Surgeon said my was liver was small and out of way so the pre op diet worked AND it only took 45 mins to do. My swallo test had no probes but I have NO appetite at all and everytime I take a sip of anything , my stomach starts cramping. Anybody else with this? I only took in 10oz yesterday by mouth. Is this how things start out?

I really hate this pre op diet of optifast. I'm miserable and hungry and feel weak ALL the time. It's 2 serv 3x a day which is like 960 cals. Who lives on that? I had the option of that or a low cal diet made by the surgeon. I tried the other diet first and did great on it but when I switched to optifast- it's been horrible. I switched because the doctors are leaning towards having all patients do optifast. I'm close- surgery is Wednesday and I wish it was done already. When I " cheat" and eat something- like eggs or a bite of salad I feel so much better! I wonder at this point if I should just do liquids mon tues and eat healthy rest of wknd?

We are getting sooooo close. How's everyone doing on their pre op diets?

1 Week Post Up And Mourning Food And Being Able To Eat
Ola Tess replied to Bryan Whitson's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I wonder the same thing lately now that surgery is only 2 wk away. But I can say lately I can " sometimes" be satisfied with small amts of things so I hope that will continue or get better. I am supposed to be on a 4 wk pre op. First 2 was a physician diet and last 2 wks is optifast. I'm going to admit the free day I had between I totally fell off the wagon. I ate as if I would never see food again. I was disappointed but thiught I would make today a new day and followed my optifast. I know that's why I need this tool. We are all used to being full instead of not hungry. Good luck to you! -
Pre Op Diet Cheating........anyone?
Ola Tess replied to Kim Ster's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did a 10 day pre op and lost a pound a day even with scheduled cheat days. Then I was supposed to start optifast 2 days ago and things are not working out. I gained 5!!!!!!! Pounds back and haven't eaten that much more. What's up with that. Hope its water weight cause what I have eaten is salty stuff. Well starting tomorrow with optifast and surgery in 1.5 wks -
I'm november 28th - on my pre op diet now!

Pre Op Diet Cheating........anyone?
Ola Tess replied to Kim Ster's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can totally relate to this. The first 3 days were killer!! Now on day 4 and I don't ever feel hungry. Yes of coarse I would love my kids Halloween candy or a burger but I know it's head hunger or cravings so I'm trying not to give in. I haven't cheated yet but with the diet I'm on - after 6 days u get a free day. Supposed to eat " wisely " so hopefully I can? Then I move onto the optifast ( with thanksgiving day off ) for 2 wks. It is very encouraging to see the scale going down every day! Good luck everyone -
2 Week Liquid Diet Pre-Op
Ola Tess replied to Stephers65's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it will be better cause u will be preoccupied and not thinking about food! I'm nov 28th too and I have to do 4 wks pre op. 2 wks low cal surgeon approved diet and 2 wks optifast. I'm only on day 2 and I'm already hungry. I think if I stay occupied it's better. Good luck -
Nov 28th- kaiser too! I'm on my pre op diet now and hating it, but it will be worth it!!
-
Not looking forward to this part. I start mine on 11/1. It's 4 wks!! I'm doing the thrive diet- a diet made up by kaiser surgeons for 2 wks and the last 10 days I'm doing optifast. I'm worried I'm gonna be so hungry and miserable? Good luck to everyone

I'm doing a 4 wk per op diet starting next wk. 2 wks of a diet the surgeons made up that's low cal but variety of foods and 2 wks of optifast. How about u?? -
I was told by NUT and surgeon Not to take the gummy vits at all! Not sure why? I take flintstone complete( gotta get the complete to get the 18 mg of iron) and Ca citrate with vit D. Not sure about the biotin. But I'm gonna try that too

Question For Kaiser Sleeved Patients
Ola Tess replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My kaiser is really strict. There is a 12 month waiting list to get into the " program" then 4 months of classes in behavioral health- adresses emotional eating, nutrition and exercise. I started the program in may and will prob be sleeved oct/ nov. I have 2 more classes to go and I'm soooo ready. This is taking forever. I haven't heard of anyone else having to wait this long. Hope in the long run it will be helpful! -
My hubby uses one and he HATEd it at first. He pulled it off in his sleep and felt the same way. It takes months to get used to it but now he wouldn't go without it!! He has such restful sleep and is more alert and less cranky during the day. There are also many different types of masks you can try to see which one makes u feel most comfortable. Untreated sleep apnea can cause serious heart problems so just keep trying and you will get used to it. But most likely you will not even need it after surgery. Most everyone that loses weight - cures their sleep apnea. Good luck!!
