Does anyone have pain in there calfs muscles
Ola Tess replied to latice19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that too and as a nurse I immediately thought of blood clots but it wasn't. I did take blood thinners for 2 wks post op but Yes my calves did hurt and I'm not sure what that was?? -
How long did u wait to eat pizza?
Ola Tess replied to taxicone31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was eating reg food at 3 wks. Doc originally said 4 but I was tolerating things so well so I did it just chewed a lot. I eat pizza but try to get lean stuff and veggies or at least some meat. I eat the topping first and Mabye a bite or 2 of bread and I'm full but I do love my pizza! Can't remember only eating Part of one slice! -
I had my surgery after a 18 month wait and 4 months of classes. The surgery went well, my doc said my liver shrinking diet worked well and surgery took 45 mins. I woke up in my room and it did hurt! Nobody talks about the pain but I'm gonna say it did hurt. It was well controlled with medication though! I was discharged on day 3 cause I was still having trouble getting any fluids down. I also had diahrrea in the hospital. They said it was normal so I was t worried. When I went home sat I had diahrrea about 10 times and the same thing Sunday. By mon morn I was weak and very dehydrated. I was back at the hospital 2x that week for an iv but I felt better each time so it got me over the hump. By week 2 I was starting to feel normal. Apparently I had a stomach virus - NOT fair! Slowly I started eating full liq then onto mashed potatoes and continued to progress quickly. At 3 wks I could eat reg food as long as chewed really well. Now 1 mo out I'm eating anything in sm portions and feel great. Just wanted to share this because the person I was the first 2 weeks is WAY different than now. I was getting upset thinking it would be crampy and uncomfortable to eat every time and how was I going to ever eat reg food but it does get better. Now at 1 mo I'm down 17 lbs from surgery ( plus another 20 pre op) and sometimes the scale doesn't move for 2 wks and its slow but it's coming and the clothes are bigger. So good luck everyone and remember this is a journey and none of us put this weight on overnight and it doesn't come off that way!

I love looking at all these and I'm sure mine are the same. I've been reading all the confessions and I'm now 1 mo out so now I feel like I can join in. 1. I eat too fast 2. I never never get enough Water 1-2 bottles:( 3. I wonder if its ok that I can eat absolutely Anything in small quantities ? 4. I weigh myself everyday even though the scale didn't move for 2 wks! 5. I'm ready to go back to work but a little worried on how it's going to be. An I gonna be tired and can I stop and eat when I need? 6. I don't exercise at all yet unless I'm Christmas shopping! So gotta start getting a gameplan Thanks;) -
trying to figure it all out
Ola Tess replied to shannelle223's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Some people weigh the same for the first few days to a week cause u got fluids in the hospital and that puts weight on. So if u lost any in first week that's great. Keep it up!! -
Hey- how r u guys doing?? I'm great and feel like nothing ever happened. I'm one month out and can eat small portions of Anything!! It's awesome to be able to taste everything and not eat alot of it! I'm down 17 lbs after surgery plus another 20 pre op. The scale moves slow and stopped for 2 wks but that's normal. I have more energy and feel great- ready to go back to work. I just can't get my water in AT ALL! But trying everyday.

Day 13: What are you eating?
Ola Tess replied to shrinkadonk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate full liquids for about a week but added thinned mashed potatoes on post op day 5. By 2 wks I was on soft foods just progressed slowly. I did things much faster than my doc preferred but doing great now. At 3 wks I could eat almost anything as long as I chewed. Now at 1 month I eat anything but in Very small portions and every 2-3 hrs. Good luck!! -

Day 4 Post Op - first case of "dumping"
Ola Tess replied to LovieC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be careful!! That will dehydrate u FAST. I had that. First 2 days out of hospital I had diahrrea 10-15 a day for 2 days. I went to hospital and got iv fluids and Felt like new. The diahrrea stopped but obviously I couldn't " push" fluids cause o could only take in so much. I ended io there again for iv fluids. So just watch it. My doc said I had a stomach virus so I had to get over that! Not fair! The nurses said diahrrea was norm cause I was only drinking liquids. Just listen to your body and pay attn to How much u are peeing. Dehydration is what u do not want. Good luck!!! -

Bigger sips today...concerned
Ola Tess replied to want2live's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasnt worried when that happened. They day u shouldn't gulp cause u drink too much and fill up not that u can't do it. U will be prob be amazed at what u can do. I day just do what u know u should. Good luck;) -
I have crampy pain sometimes and I noticed it's when it's Cold, Ate too much or Too fast. It's like my stomach says STOP! But it works cause I listen. The hardest is when there is one little bite left and I think I can eat and then I get tipped into the Too Full zone. Best thing is to get back to really listening to our body. For so long I ate too much and whenever I wanted.

That's the best- I feel so great when I put on clothes and they are looser or too big. Best feeling ever!! Keep it up

Nov Sleevers... What's Your Status?
Ola Tess replied to Yasmine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 11/28- had a Rough first week fighting a stomach bug but week 2 was a breeze. I was able to tolerate soft foods if I chewed them ALOT and ate slow. I go all day Christmas shopping and never get tired. So now going into wk 3 I'm down 15 lbs from surgery but feel Guilty for not starting exercising yet? My doc said 4 wks but I feel fine- I know I can be walking( doing that anyway at the mall) but I feel like I should be starting an exercise routine now. What's everyone else doing? -
Wow it's sad to me they haven't prepared you for your post op journey. And only overnight in the hospital- that's not very long and hardly long enough for them to even tell if u are tolerating stuff. Anyhow I had 6 mo of preparation for this surgery so I felt good. But even then it's really HARD to get the fluids in. My nutritionist told me protein needs are based on height so for me who's 5'5" it's 75 gr a day but u Cannot start out eating that much cause too much protein without enough water will dehydrate you. So my doc and nut said week 1 you have 1 serving a day(15g) and week 2 is 2 serv a day and so on until my 75g a day. Also it was full liquids first 2 weeks, then blended/soft for 2 wks then regular food. I started mashed potatoes a little early thinned out and did well. But to expect u to get in 64oz and the shakes is gonna be almost impossible. My liquid req is 64 oz including the shakes. Hope that helps- good luck!!!!

Sooo Sick Of Protein Shakes!
Ola Tess replied to Strangefruit's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I totally get where u are coming from. I'm almost 2 wks out and will be moving from full liquid to blended/ soft diet. I've already started mashed potatoes thinned out and I tolerated that well and started feeling better just having something besides broth jello and protein shakes. I will say the first few times my stomach felt crampy but it went away. It seems normal when you are putting something new in there for it to rebel a little;) good luck!! I hope u get to advance your diet soon cause u will feel better -
I was sleeved 11/28 and I had a really ROUGH week!! I'm a totally different person now and I'm able to get "most" of my fluids in now. Good luck to everyone and hang in there- it's hard to see the light sometimes but it's there. I know it!!
-
I was sleeved 11/28. I was actually sent home on blood thinner shots I administer once a day at night for 2 weeks. He said all his patients get that. I'm having ALOT of trouble getting my fluids in. I was already at hospital 2 days after discharge for an iv and I might need to go back again tomorrow. I am trying so hard but never enough:( pain is almost gone now so in happy for that.
-
Feeling just like you. Sleeved 11/28! Im tired. Having trouble getting in fluids/ protein etc. I know from hearing from others it gets better but it's really hard to see the light from here

Feeling Extremely Weak...is That Normal
Ola Tess replied to Kristi64's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel the same way. No energy and tired all the time. I know I'm not getting the fluids and protein I need but it's good to hear that it helped people when they did. Also I just knew I was doing the right thing having surgery 18 mo wait list and 6 mo of classes and ive been thinking lately I made a mistake cause I don't want to feel like this anymore. But hearing from u guys that u felt the same way gives me hope. -
1 Week Post-Op And Think I'm Dehydrated
Ola Tess replied to 3girlsmama's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I was sleeved 11/28. If I drink a Protein shake first thing- I get nauseous too. I start with some Powerade zero or thinned cream of wheat made with skim milk and some splenda. That goes down well in the morning. I do the cream of chicken soup or tomato soup, 1/2 snack size pudding, Popsicles. I try to sip sip Water and powerade all day but I'm not getting in my 64 oz either! I do the protein shake in the afternoon and I pour 5-6 oz in a glass and chill in freezer first and it goes down nice. My doc has me on 1 serv of protein a day week 1 and 2 serv week 2 and so on until. ALSO the 64 oz u are supposed to take in comes from everything not just the water but as a nurse o tell my patients to pay attn to the Color of the urine to see if u are hydrated. The clearer the better. Good luck everyone- keep up the good work;) -
