An average adult has 206 bones in their body. People can have different number of rib bones and bones in their hands and feet that make doctors average the number of bones in a skeleton. Bones themselves can have different densities. We know this from people who have thinning bones due to Osteoporosis. The interesting thing that is substantiated on this quest is heavy people with a BMI over 33 never get Osteoporosis. They have greater bone density. Bone density is increased when you do activities that put stress on the bone structure like weight lifting or in this case carrying around excess weight.

Surgery Complication..Rectus Muscle Hematoma? Need help..
lessofmeismore replied to mysunflower621's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is on the right but I have a small spigelian hernia on my left as well. The right was repaired because it was painful and larger... The left got better after weight loss but the right already had petrusion which was felt and it was painful to touch even a graze of my skin felt like fire. I had a general surgeon repair mine and it was a simple procedure of placing a small mesh and sewing the muscle back together. Now I do understand that you just had major surgery on your stomache on the left side so I would deal with a surgeon who is confident to working in that area. If you must use you bariatric surgeon always have someone with you when seeing him. Most drs work more professionally around more than just the patient. I remember how painful it was so I wish you a speedy diagnosis and healing. Ask lots of questions until you feel comfortable with the process. I'm hoping all the best for you! -

Just adding that it was an MRI that found it. Have your pcp refer a surgeon. Do not use your bariatric dr -

Okay I had this exact pain. It was a spigelian hernia... My pcp diagnosed me... It was way before my sleeve surgery but after a different surgery I had It is very painful... It can be fixed easily but I would choose a different surgeon then your rude bariatric dr It is common in over weight people and after an abdominal surgery -

I'd love more details too because in my experience with friends and coworkers I've seen more people gain back their weight a year out from bypass and still maintaining with the sleeve. What do you think caused your weight regain? Do you feel you can still lose it? Do u still feel restriction? I'm sorry this happened to you but be strong and determined! -

lessofmeismore replied to Luckystar12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely understand...I usually use the " I had a big lunch" or " I snacked before we came so I'm not real hungry" It is annoying and uncomfortable when people keep mentioning it. But after a few months you will be a pro -

I'm still amazed at how much I used food to avoid issues in my life. I didn't realize what a crutch/addiction it was until this surgery. Now I am learning to live with the good and the bad without food. It's hard. -

No C-PAP Machine Following Surgry
lessofmeismore replied to kristikay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is what I found from a bariatric Dr. Scary thing is, I wore mine...yikes For patients having certain kinds of surgery, the CPAP can potentially cause problems. This is especially true for sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass patients. The CPAP machine blows air/oxygen intothepatients upper airway, helping to keep the passages open and deliver oxygen efficiently. It also blows air into the upper digestive system, including the esophagus and stomach. Since this air is under pressure, and also taking into consideration that the stomach doesn't empty very well right after surgery, a whole lot of air can collect in the stomach. With sleeve/bypass patients, this air, under pressure inthestomach/pouch,can create a leak at the staple line (sleeve) or anastomosis (bypass). Many bariatric surgeons do not allow their sleeve and bypass patients to use CPAP for a week or more after surgery, for this reason alone. This brings up your final question. Yes, patients are monitored closely after surgery to make sure they are breathing, and No, the CPAP mask isn't critical at all. CPAPmakes for a safer recoveryfor mostpatients, but as I described above, it isn't the correct solution for postoperative oxygenation for all situations. -
I'm so sorry I'm glad you weren't hurt and that you are ok.
