  1. That's good advice and thanks for the kind words. I think I will start getting on the scale just once a week. It may be difficult to resist the temptation to hop up on it every morning.
  2. Since surgery I have averaged a 1lb loss every day. Today I was up nearly 1lb and now I feel so discouraged. Maybe my expectations are too high, I was so enjoying my progress up till now and not so much today.
  3. Well, I'm 4 days post-op and all went very well. I was just sitting here at home doing my every 15 min sipping and decided to count my staples. I have a total of 24, and 6 incision locations. The staples don't hurt or anything. In fact I have 1 staple that looks like it might be a little loose. I asked the nurse about it and she said that I could just pull it out if I needed to. I don't need to. :-)

Dr Kim And Forest Park Medical Center

I had my surgery this past Tuesday (July 31st) and all went very well. My surgery was scheduled for 8:30am so I was told to be there at 6:30am. Well, I waited and waited and about 4-5 hours past 8:30 I finally was taken to the Pre-op holding area to get ready. They have you take all your clothes off, underwear included, and get into one of those lovely gowns. Then they started IV's asked a bunch of questions and the waiting continued. Dr. Kim came by to talk for a few minutes, then the Anesthesiologist came by a little later. And 2 or 3 nurses involved in the surgery also came by. I was finally wheeled into surgery between 6-7 hours late. Throughout the day I would ask different people what the hold up was and I would get similar answers like, "well, you do have Dr. Kim" or something similar. I have no doubt that Dr. Kim is one of the very best in his field, he is conservative, precise in his actions and doesn't hurry up to satisfy other people. As his patient who is now 4 days post-op, I'm very pleased with him and have no regrets.
  5. Wow, I can't believe it's over. All the anticipation and preparation and I couldn't be more satisfied that I made this move. Except for a few uncomfortable moments during my one night in the hospital, everything has gone amazingly well. Today I didn't need any pain meds for the first time, so I was able to actually drive myself to my own home. It's a bit of a challenge getting down the one ounce of fluids every 15 minutes but I'm coming along. Those pesky little gas pains are not fun but is getting much better. My poor dog probably doesn't understand why I can't play with him so much right now but he will be ok. :-)
  6. Well, I made it through my surgery yesterday without any complications. Had a bit of a rough ***ht however, I passed my leak test so this morning I'm on my liquid sips every 15min. Not real comfortable but think I will get through it all ok.
  7. Thanks for all the input, it has all been helpful. Just been curious what I'm facing when I go toy follow up appointment and the staples get removed. I have total faith in my surgeon.
  8. Thanks drewmon, that was very helpful. I have my surgery this Tuesday (31st).
  9. Maybe nobody understands what I'm asking or talking about. My surgeon puts like 6 holes in your stomach and does the surgery life everyone else does. Don't they have to seal up those holes somehow?
  10. My surgeon use staples on your abdomen.
  11. How much pain is there if any when they remove the staples from your stomach?

Small world, I'm having my surgery with Dr. Kim on the 31st as well. I can't wait to get it done. This two week pre-op diet is no joke.
  13. Well, today begins week two of my two week liquid diet. Once I got past the initial 2-3 days its almost like being on cruise control. It hasn't gotten any harder or easier really its just moving along. I thought sitting across the table from other people who were eating would be difficult but it really has not been. I just sit and enjoy what ever I'm drinking or eating (popsicles or jello both sugar free or chicken broth) and enjoy the conversations. Surgery is one week from tomorrow (31st) and can't believe its almost time. I just want to get it done.
  14. Like others have indicated, this journey is defintely not easy especially when it comes to this liquid diet. But it's all good, I've already been taken off 4 pills per day that I had been on for years. I did lose some weight leading up to the diet so I'm sure that helped. We just have to keep focusing on the goal and don't give up, because we are all worth it. One more thing, I never would have thought that sugar free jello and chicken broth could taste so darn good. :-)
