Can't Decide! So confused!
VSGJean replied to kingleah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm down 62 lbs in 23 weeks. If I were to go to the gym I'm sure I would have loss more. I'm very happy with my sleeve. After researching the Lap-band, I found to many problems with it, scar tissue, slipping, etc. If known people who have had the bypass then they have become addicted to pain-meds and have gained some of the weight back... -
You should take it easy when you get back to work......

I'd go with the hernia repair!! You're probably going to have to have it anyway, so it won't be a lie....

I started having acid reflux problems for about 15 years. I started on Protonix and that quit working I switched to Nexium, then my wonderful insurance company decided that I didn't need to take Nexium anymore, that OTC drugs should "fix" my problem!! My Dr told me to double the OTC dosage so I did and the Zantac and Prilosec worked fine. Like I said before, since my surgery I take my tummy meds only once every 10 to 14 days.

Can you give the link for this DR? I've been considering Costa Rica. I would love to look into something closer to the states.

A charge for hernia repair surgery ?!what?!
VSGJean replied to Lisa'slosinit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had hernia repair but I knew I needed it. Going to Mexico, I had to pay an extra $500 for it. After figuring out all the co-pays and deductibles, we probably came out better having it done in Mexico vs the states. But yes I would be upset about not being told and would look at my med records to make sure your doctor isn't "padding" the bill. -
My sister uses baking soda water. I take Zantac and Prilosec. But since my surgery, I only take tummy meds once every 10 to 14 days

This is what I wish I had taken, extra PJs and extra underwear (I forgot my underwear) and footie socks/slippers and flip flops. You probably will go shopping, but at soon as you get back to your room, you will want to put on comfortable clothes ie PJs. I flew United also and they allow you to check one bag for free, I HIGHLY recommend doing that. When I flew home, I upgraded to 1st class at check-in. It was the best $75 I have ever spent. Also take broth packets with you, the food and drink taste different in Mexico, except the bottle Water. I bought juice and yogurt from Walmart and it was NASTY!!

Are you going to Mexico?

Super Sleepy After Meals
VSGJean replied to alw1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was tired (couldn't keep my eyes open) every afternoon after surgery and I would say that that went away somewhere between 8 weeks and 10 weeks after surgery. -
I had one and the doctor repaired it during my surgery. I had my surgery in Mexico, so I had to pay an extra $500, which is probably cheaper then having it here in the states after all my co-pays, deductibles and fees

Also, some spouses think if you lose the weight, they will lose you. He might need some reassurance. -
Ok ladies...personal question?
VSGJean replied to Jmbaker24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard of people not getting their period after having WLS, so if I were you I would call your surgeon first and see what they say. I've had a full hysterectomy so I can't tell you from my experience. -

You seem to have everything under control. I wish I could drink that much water.... -
I eat oranges all the time. Sometimes if I eat one before bed, I will have tummy problems, but I haven't had any problems eating anything y'all have mentioned..

You can do that, but add more lentils and also add kidney and black beans. I need the protein and I've been craving veggies. I can get my protein and my veggies!!

Gastric sleeve in TJ with Alejandro Lopez
VSGJean replied to marlygirly's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Don't be nervous, you'll do fine. I had my surgery in Puerto Vallarta not TJ. Everyone was extremely nice, helpful and truly concerned about your welfare. I have a youtube page and I think it's my 4th video (14 minutes long) that is my trip to Mexico. Check it out. -

Sad and Seeking Words of Wisdom
VSGJean replied to MaryC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, I'm with LilBear, what are you eating? What exercise are you doing? Try a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and a high protein dinner, Greek yogurt for snacks between meals. This will work!! Go to your primary doctor and have him/her give you recommendations. Plus he should do your labs, since you went to Mexico for your surgery, so you need to follow up with him. I had too also and all my labs came back normal, but maybe something isn't right and he can add different vitamins to your diet.... -

BCBS will not pay for sister who works for City
VSGJean replied to JazzyJan's topic in Insurance & Financing
My husband's city insurance (UHC) wouldn't cover WLS and neither does his new Parish insurance (BCBS of LA). I went to Mexico and it was the BEST decision I've ever made. If she has any questions about Mexico, have her get in touch with me!! -
Let me know when you're in Louisiana (I-20)!!
