Decision Between Weight Loss Surgeries??
Renee2817 replied to kflan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I knew from the beginning that Lap band was the way for me, I have two co-workers who have the gastric done, and they tried to convince me that, that would be the way to go. When I see one of them in the bathroom all the time (getting sick) because she ate something that she wasn't supposed to, I know that I made the right choice. I love me band, because I still have control and it's up to me to make good food choices as opposed to my body rejecting something that I really want but don't want to get sick. This person actually had it done twice a (revision) because she gain all of her weight back. My director actually had it done several years ago, and she has doubled her weight gain. I know with the Lapband you can gain as well, but if you feel that your are eating too much with this you can at least have a fill. It's been 3 months since my surgery I've lost 40 pounds without having a fill. Just know whatever you decide you have to be dedicated to it. Good luck. -
Good luck on your new life journey, I am more than certain that you will obtain your goal.

Would Like A Mentor, Please
Renee2817 replied to Michelle Gelli Ruiz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I am here if you need me. I've been banded for 3 months and am down 38 pounds, it hasn't been hard for me as far as eating and exercising. I haven't had a fill yet, so I can't help you there. It's not often that I get hungry,On my visit last month, the nurse told me that sometimes the doctor get the band in the right location and you are in the "green" zone from the beginning. and the he must have placed mine the the right spot and will more than likely never need a fill. Good Luck to you on your journey knowing that you will do well. -
Congrats on your success, I know that there will be more to come. You are an inspiration to so many, keep on keeping on.

Maybe your not eating enough food throughout the day, and your body has adjusted it self to the calories your at to sustain your current weight. Try exercising more or maybe eating/drinking more protein. Please don't give up just having the band placed was a huge milestone. I encourage you to keep trying and don't give up on yourself. WE can do anything that we put our mind to, for we are winners. No matter how long it takes to lose the weight, we win because we have lost those old eating habits, we now exercise something that I am sure not many of us have done in the past and we are working on a new us, not just the outside but the inside as well. We gain more confidence when we see that we have obtained something that we have worked so hard for. Don't look back stay the course and I am here for encouragement if you need me. blessings2310@hotmail.com

It's not just in the morning that your taste is affected, it's most foods that I use to eat no longer taste the same. I do remember for a time, that after I had my part of my thyroid removed that my taste for certain things changed as well, I was about a year later that I started to get my taste back for those things.

I didn't have any pain, only the gas pain that were bad. but my recovery was great.

I actually just had my co-worker to find something for me, I've always wanted to run a race. I have started 2 weeks ago with the couch25k and it's great. A little hard the first week, but you get used to it, I don't go for speed, I jog at my own pace. I will be running a 5k on September 22, my job is actually sponsoring one that I found out about on yesterday, so I am going for it. I thought that I would have a little more time to train, but when I heard about this one I couldn't pass it up. It's a run for lung cancer awareness and my mom died from lung cancer 6 years ago. I thought this would be an awesome way to honor her and check one off of my bucket list.

That is good you want to go slow. I thought that I was the only one that had taste issues. The foods that I loved before has the most horrible taste since the surgery. 3 months out. So my meals consists of fruit, cheese, crackers and fish. I loved roasted chicken now the taste is the worst. We had our family reunion last weekend, I just watched everyone else eat, thank God there were veggies there or I would have had to leave and find food for me to eat. I did ask the doctor, he said the good thing was that I only have a taste for the good protein.

My insurance didn't require any weight loss before surgery. Dr. A. did advise that a few pounds be lost before surgery to help shrink the liver, for a better process during the surgery.

I've been craving gum, and wondering the affects it might. I am gonna have gum.

I thought that it was only me that see only imperfections. My husband, family and friends see things a lot differently that I do. I never really took pictures due to my weight and even though I have lost weight, I still won't take pictures. I will have to find some before and after shots so that I can compare. Be encouraged in know that in time you will have the desired look that you are aiming for.

I would love to become your buddy, we need all the encouragement that we can get while in this new life journey. You can add me as a friend. Renee2817 -
Congrats to you both, this journey has been a wonderful thing for me. I've learned to eat healthy. I have been banded for 3 months and have not had a fill yet. I am 36 pounds down. I walk at least 20 minutes each day and I also work out on my glider in the evening. I am currently training for a 5k run. something that I want to accomplish before I reach my goal. Good luck to both of you, may you have a happy and health journey as well. Many blessings upon you
